Ok, let's get some activity in here! Post your specs and show off your rig! Post pics and all the cool shit if you want. If the number of images grows, I'll put a 56k warning.
I'll just paste what my irc script says.

AMD Sempron 64 2800+ overclocked 25%
1GB Corsair VS DDR 400
1 10GB Seagate (OS drive)
1 250GB Western Digital (storage)
Sony DW18 (I think) DVD-RW
Liteon something CDRW
Radeon X700 Pro 256MB PCI-X x16
ASUS K8N4-E Deluxe
Some Aspire case (black with blue lighting)
Forton 400w PSU (I forget now what it is)
Logitech 5.1 Surround
Dell monitor of some variety, 17" 1600x1200x32
I think that's the gist of it... There's a grand total of... 5 case fans
Yeah, I know, it's not fantastic... but I can play Oblivion smoothly. And this machine is almost 3 years old.
My biggest complaint is that I didn't buy SATA drives, and the video card kinda sucks.

The next things i plan to buy for my system are (not in order of planned purchase):
1. A Microsoft or Logitech remote control (for use with Windows Media Center).
2. A new Black media center styled computer casing.
3. Logitech G15 gaming keyboard.
4. Monitor wall mounting bracket.
5. A new video card capable of resolutions of at least 1920x1080 (for use with 1080p HD video playback).
6. Samsung 500GB SATAII hard drive.
Thats all ive got planned for now as the system is pretty good as it is (with the exception of the onboard video, which surprisingly plays all todays games fairly well).

btw neonix what script is that
o noes, P4 sucks lol u guyz r rite. It's still a good processor. I don't play games too much, so keep that in mind. And the script is essence. (cant believe i just contributed to another 13 year old that will be spamming up irc)
p4's still aren't that great for the stuff you do too. i noticed with mine (pretty sure its the same as yours) when i burnt a dvd it'd lag, when i did 4 or 5 things at once, it lagged...
and me spamming up irc when i barely get on it? grow up smartass.
@hook, what hdd is that, a seagate or a western digital?
I get no lag when burning DVDs. The only time IRC lags is when someone post a HUEG spam like bigmatix which locks up mIRC, but that's not my processor's fault, it's mIRC, everyone locks up when someone pastes that shit.

point of my arguement there are way more cpus that are more powerful, for cheaper, less power consuming prices. compared to many apps, i bet if you slapped a c2d in there bootup would be quicker, every program would be quicker, and just na overall improvement.

i dont know why people think that any new dx10 card is good. most of them are horrible, infact all under 200 bucks aren't anything special. well i guess an OVERCLOCKED 8600gts, is ok, but not amazing.

yeah, both my 8800 GTX get around 50+ FPS in BioShock in SLI, thats 2 GPU's working at once, you DX10 is really for people that have the high-end GPU's like the 8800 and 2900 and such :)

BioShock runs smooth (so around 30 fps I would guess, I don't know) on MAX (and 1680x1050) with an 8800GTS
since the subject bioshock has emerged.
how can i use a normal controller? i do not have a xbox360 one.
i have a playstation 3 one with drivers, but the game will not use it. :(
i think i have to re-map the keyboard buttons to my ps3 controller and that will do.
any software recommendations for remapping the keyboard functions to the controller.?
i only glanced google for the info and will look harder later as i'm not in the mood to now, i just saw bioshock mentioned so i asked.

2gb of 800mhz ddr2 ram

nonono.
8800gt is brand new. it BEATS the GTS, because it has more shaders, faster clock, not to mention only takes 1 slot.
don't get GTX. The 8800gts REVISION will almost be par on the ultra, for around 300. I think maybe cheaper after supply and demand too.

Ok I will give it a month, because I want a new Graphics card for Christmas.
Hopefully the store has it by then!
Otherwise I will get the 8800GT 512MB for about 350 on the net.
Do you think that would be the best idea?
Or should I go for another card?

im also surprised that newegg hasnt busted up the price of the 3870 to almost double
still the same price
ATI said they would protect the products from the price gouging (puts competition to the 8800GT which has its price rasied over and over again)

I'm from Australia..
Prices are different, plus we pay about 10% more for everything.

11-21-2007, 02:13 AM
well its still about $100 above suggested retail because of very low stock
think of when the new systems came out like $2000 PS3's , $800 Wii, ect... , its the same exact thing here

So I have had a small look and yeah here is what I came up with, tell me what you think!
It's between the two bold ones.
Ok first line is textures (eg. 39.2 billion.) Second line is Max bandwidth. Third line is memory. Fourth is HDR Lighting.
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 Ultra 39.2 billion 103.7 GB/s 768 MB 128 bit
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX 36.8 billion 86.4 GB/s 768 MB 128 bit
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 24.0 billion 64.0 GB/s 320/640 MB 128 bit
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 33.6 billion 57.6GB/s 512 MB 128 bit
Now the GT is cheaper and comes with Crysis if I get a Evga model. But the GTX is slightly better costs much more though.
So what do you think?

ok now I can tell you don't what you're doing...
Just because one has a 103 GB/s bandwidth, doesn't mean it's better.
Tessalation unit
Shaders
Texture processors
GFLOPS
That matters the most...
They'res no way the gt is 57gb... it has to be at least 70 :/
@ spartan you're right and wrong...
8800gt is good for high end gaming too :mrgreenthumbsup:

Future Rig:
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ "Black Edition" (I don't care that Intel has faster Core 2's- I'm a AMD guy)
GPU: nVidia GeForce 8800GT
RAM: 2GB Haven't decided on what brand
SPU: Sound Blaster X-Fi
HD:1 WD Raptor X 150 GB
HD:2 WD's in Raid 5
That should be a good system once I get it all put together. Pretty cheap and has room to grow.

CPU: Intel E8400 3ghz
Mobo: MSI P6N nForce 650i SLI
Ram: 4gb OCZ Platinum Rev2 Memory
HDD: Seagate Barracuda.10 250gb SATA Drive
Optical: Liteon 20x SATA DVDRW
Case, PSU, and GPU are up in the air at this point. I did just notice that ultra is bundling their new take on the old antec server tower case with their 750w modular psu. I'm probably going to get an 8800gt.

I actually might just buy an 8600 and wait for a better card later on. I am working with a very small budget, but I'm looking to have a decent amount of upgradeability and performance.

well to start
1) it looks nicer
2) 50 more watts
3) the pci-e and mobo cables are shielded
4) pushes 20A on each rail
5) cheaper
6) even comes with cable ties
7) the 2nd pci-e power connector on the xclio needs to take 2 molex connectors to work (I need all of them...)

wth is an A2? you mean an updated A1 with a bios update that shows as an A2 in cpuz?\
also, how the hell are you running a quad 45NM yorkfield on a 680i mobo? i thought with the p32 update it only supported wolfdales...im calling bs on that one that you have that cpu. because there is no way that you have that cpu, OR at least you dont have that cpu running in that mobo.

well, I forgot to post it, but this past Thursday, I just received my EVGA Nforce 780i mobo, I have put it in my Rig, but did have the time to tweak and play around with it, I was busy with work and packing my shit for my trip, but now I can OC my QX9650 with no issues cuz I was getting BSOD's with my 680i, so I said, might as well get the new mobo to play with my QX9650 :)

EVGA 8800 Ultra Superclocked (hate myself for getting this, it's fast and all, but imo was still a waste of money, especially with the 8800 GT's coming out a couple of weeks after I got it)
EVGA 680i A1 mobo (finally got one that works, had to go through 5 RMA's before I got a mobo that didn't have tons of problems)

']you were getting bsods because the bios didnt properly support the qx9650 as i found out later on the evga forum >.<
it worked, but then when I tried to OC, it took a shit, so I opted for the 780i, now I broke the 4.5ghz mark on air cooling, lol
now, just wait till the 9800GTX drops out and Tri-SLI those suckers
I might also upgrade my PSU
go from an Enermax Galaxy 1000W to a newer model if they have any that supports those gay new 8 pin PCI-E connectors, going to need a PSU that has 3 of those along with 3 PCI-E 6 pin connectors for my future 9800GTX's, lol
so I am looking at about $2000 worth of upgrades aside from CPU/Mobo I just got

e2180 for now would be alright... or maybe if you could get a cheap PD/P4

The Celeron is a HUGE bottleneck
I beg to differ, youll find out the Celerons depending on the particular model are either rejected pentiums or scaled back pentium designs. As most people know their huge downfall is the about of cache they have.
The GeForce 6200 is the huge bottle neck. If you had a 6600 you would all of a sudden find yourself in a new situation with gaming, but not that much better id rather have a 7600 but i haven't gotten around to benching most geforces.
With the old Radeon X series I had an X700 which would run FEAR at 1280x1024, i made the idiot move of buying an X1300 thinking it would do better. The first X series line up went X300 X700 X800 (X850 as well) the next line up was like X1300 X1600 X1900. The higher series just like Geforce 6xxx 7xxx 8xxx each higher series has higher directx support and pixelshader support and what not. The higher the sub series the more pipelines and better memory buss it is likley to have. But say a 7200 would not be that much better than a 6200 but a 6600 would be better than a 7200 except for if u had to have some feature it supported and even still it will play more games with better settings then the 7200 would.
SO really ditch the 6200 for the best AGP card u can find and you will stop blaming your celeron for your gaming issues, the celeron will hold u back in physics just turn that back.
