~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Complete Guide to PSPHost, USBHostfs and NetHostfs with IR Shell 2.0 and DevHook ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Credits:
PSPHost created by Danny_kay1710
USBHostfs by Tyranid
DevHook by BOOSTER
IR Shell by AhMan
Tutorial by ChaosZero
Note: The USB Modded DevHook will act different, depending on which mod you have. This Tutorial may not work for all versions.
First lets start with this:
What is USBHostfs?
USBHostfs is a PC utility which allows the PSP connect to your computer and access the files on it, via the PSP's USB port..
For DevHook (http://www.psp-hacks.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=31107), with the proper mods, you can load ISOs off of your computer's hard drive!
Even if you have a 32mb Memory Stick, you could have 10+ games! How cool is that?
But the real killer is IR Shell 2.0 (http://www.psp-hacks.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=40092). With this handy little app, you can load homebrew games, music, etc off of your computer, just like it was on the card in your PSP!
You can even use it to launch your SNES, N64, Genesis, GBA, etc ROMS off your computer, saving space on your memory stick.
The limitation? You must have a USB cable running from your PSP to your computer. That's were NetHostfs comes in.
What is NetHostfs?
NetHostfs is also a PC utility which allows the PSP connect to your computer, except this time via AdHoc, or WiFi. No "cables" attached. (Pardon the bad pun ;))
Load your Homebrew, ROMs, Music, etc with IR Shell.
Loading your ISOs with DevHook is not supported yet..
You MUST have a Wireless network card or USB Wireless adapter, the same ones used to connect to a wireless router.
A wireless router is not needed however.
So what is PSPHost?
A program by Danny_kay1710 which ties them both together with a nice interface for Windows.
In order to have the PSP connect to the Computer, it must have something on the computer waiting for the PSP to connect.
That's where PSPHost comes in.
Enough with the explaining, lets get it working!
1. Installing PSPHost
2. IR Shell- USBHostfs
3. IR Shell- NetHostfs
4. DevHook w/ USB Mod
5. USBHostfs- USB Host Redirection
6. PiMPStreamer 0.7 (Coming Soon)
7. WiFi Contoller (Coming Soon)
8. IR Shell with DevHook
***************************************************************** *****
1. Installing PSPHost
Download PSPHost 1.8.
Go to the directory where you downloaded PSPHost.
You will see the following files: PiMPStreamer 0.x.zip, WiFiContoller.zip, README.TXT, and PSPHost.msi.
Open PSPHost.msi.
Simply install it to a directory (default- C:\Program Files\PSPHost)
Now download the "NetHostfs 1.3- Fixed version for PSPHost" file from above.
Extract it to the PSPHost install directory, eg "C:\Program Files\PSPHost" and overwrite the original file.
Now go to Start>Programs>PSPHost>PSPHost v1.4 (yes, it's a typo, it really is v1.5.), Or simply click the shortcut made on your Desktop.
PSPHost will open and appear in your bottom Task Tray.
Right-Click the Icon and select "Settings"
"Directory to Share over USB/WiFi" Click browse and select the loaction where your PSP's Homebrew, ROMS, ISOs, Music, etc.
Example:
http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/2279/psphostlocationsro3.th.jpg (http://img208.imageshack.us/my.php?image=psphostlocationsro3.jpg)
Mine in "My Documents\PSP\PSPHost". Everything I want my PSP to access is inside the PSPHost folder, including Homebrew, ISOs, etc.
The folder you choose should include the same layout as the PSP's:
ms0:\
-------- ISO
-------- MP_ROOT
-------- PSP
----- MUSIC
----- GAME
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\PSP\PSPHost
-------- ISO
-------- MP_ROOT
-------- PSP
----- MUSIC
----- GAME
From the Settings menu, you are also given the options to have PSPHost start when windows starts, and have the WiFi, USB, etc. automatically start when PSPHost starts, without manually having to turn it on later.
After you adjust the settings, click "OK".
That nearly takes care of the PC side of the Setup, lets move on to the PSP side.
The next part will either have the option to setup the PSP side with 1. IR Shell, or 2. DevHook USB Mod.
2. IR Shell- USBHostfs
First copy the required folders (IRSHELL and PSP) to your Memory Stick root (ms0:\)
Remember to leave the USB cable attached to the PSP.
Now go to your GAME menu and select IR Shell.
Once IR Shell loads, look for the usbhost0 icon (Toggle USBHost). Click it. You will get an Error, don't worry about it.
http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/640/snap0002jy5.th.png (http://img180.imageshack.us/my.php?image=snap0002jy5.png)http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/9606/snap0003jj3.th.png (http://img227.imageshack.us/my.php?image=snap0003jj3.png)
Windows will make the "New Hardware Connected" sound and find the "PSP Type B".
A pop-up will appear to search for the proper drivers.
When it asks to search for drivers online, select "No, Not at this time" and click "Next".
Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)". Click "Next".
Select "Include this location in the search." and browse to "C:\Program Files\PSPHost\driver" (or where you installed PSPHost).
The driver will install. Click "Finish".
Now to activate the USB Connection.
Right-click on the PSPHost Icon in the System Tray. Select Enable USB.
http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/9689/enableusbtk6.th.jpg (http://img219.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enableusbtk6.jpg)
Your computer is now ready tp accept connections from your PSP.
Back on your PSP, click X to get rid of the Error. Click the usbhost0 icon again to have access to the files on your PC.
For more information on IR Shell v2.0, see the included User Guide.txt.
3. IR Shell- NetHostfs
In order for NetHostfs to work with IR Shell, you must have the 1.0 AdHoc PRX Files in the "ms0:\IRSHELL\SYSTEM" directory.
There is a rebuilt version which includes the PRX files in the downloads section above.
First, open up your Network Connections.
Right click on your wireless card.
Select Properties.
Scroll down the list till you find Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
Select Properties.
1. IF YOU ALSO USE WIFI TO CONNECT TO A DLINK ROUTER
Select Use the following IP address.
IP Address: 192.168.0.100
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.100
Hit OK and Apply.
2. IF YOU ALSO USE WIFI TO CONNECT TO A LIKSYSYS ROUTER
Select Use the following IP address.
IP Address: 192.168.1.100
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.100
Hit OK and Apply.
3. IF YOU DON'T USE THE WIFI TO CONNECT TO ANYTHING ELSE
Select Use the following IP address.
IP Address: 100.100.100.101
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 100.100.100.101
Hit OK and Apply.
Click the Wireless Networks tab.
Make a new connection.
Call it something simple like AdHoc.
At the bottom, check AdHoc connection (Peer to Peer)
You may wish to put an WEP encryption.
Select Ok, then OK again to exit the Properties.
Make sure the Wireless card is not connect to anything, like a router.
Right-click on the PSPHost Icon in the System Tray. Select Enable WiFi.
http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/4003/enablewifild3.th.jpg (http://img99.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enablewifild3.jpg)
While in the 1.50 XMB, go to your network connections.
Create a new one called AdHoc (or adhoc)
When asked for the SSID manually type AdHoc and select WEP encryption (if you used it)
For Address Settings choose Custom
For IP Address Settings choose Manual
Select Use the following IP address.
IP Address: 192.168.(0-2 depending on what you used above).101
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.(0-2 depending on what you used above).100
Primary DNS: Anything you want
Next.
On Proxy Server select Do Not Use.
Your finished.
Now go in to IR Shell's Config.
Non-MS Media Access: Enable
Redirect APP view to host: Disable
XMB network for NetHost: AdHoc
Nethost IP/Name (AP) : (This is the address entered on your computer)
nethost Ip (adhoc) : (This is also the address entered on your computer)
NetHost port : 7513
Nethost password:
Allow Adhoc PC connection for homebrew: Enable
Click the nethost0 icon to have access to the files on your PC.
For more information on IR Shell v2.0, see the included User Guide.txt.
4. DevHook USB Mod
If you have already completed the above method, simply run the DevHook USB Mod.
In the "Other" Menu, enable USB.
When you launch into the 2.71 XMB menu, pressing Home+L or Home+R will cycle through the ISOs on your computer.
If you are skipping the IR Shell Method and only using DevHook, follow these steps:
First copy the required folders (dh and PSP) to your Memory Stick root (ms0:\)
Remember to leave the USB cable attached to the PSP.
Now go to your GAME menu and select DevHook (or DevHook Mod in some cases).
In the "Other" Menu, enable USB.
Windows will make the "New Hardware Connected" sound and find the "PSP Type B".
A pop-up will appear to search for the proper drivers.
When it asks to search for drivers online, select "No, Not at this time" and click "Next".
Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)". Click "Next".
Select "Include this location in the search." and browse to "C:\Program Files\PSPHost\driver" (or where you installed PSPHost).
The driver will install. Click "Finish".
Again, in the "Other" Menu, enable USB.
When you launch into the 2.71 XMB menu, pressing Home+L or Home+R will cycle through the ISOs on your computer.
5. USBHostfs- USB Host Redirection
After completing the above steps for setting up usbhostfs on IR Shell 2.0:
After starting IR Shell with USBHostfs, again select the usbhost0 Icon. Then select the Icon to the right of it (Toggle USBHost Redirection).
While selecting the usbhost0 will allow us to access files on our PC, the "Toggle USBHost Redirection" tricks the PSP into thinking it's memory stick is your computer.
http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/8903/snap0001zr6.th.png (http://img167.imageshack.us/my.php?image=snap0001zr6.png)
The file you chose at the beginning, eg "My Documents\PSP\PSPHost" is where it will look.
http://img97.imageshack.us/img97/738/devhookusboa8.th.jpg (http://img97.imageshack.us/my.php?image=devhookusboa8.jpg)
You can select homebrew, music, etc.
http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/1531/snap0002jb9.th.png (http://img220.imageshack.us/my.php?image=snap0002jb9.png)
DevHook:
http://img242.imageshack.us/img242/229/snap0003nu7.th.png (http://img242.imageshack.us/my.php?image=snap0003nu7.png)
My Computer:
http://img242.imageshack.us/img242/3712/devhookisostj1.th.jpg (http://img242.imageshack.us/my.php?image=devhookisostj1.jpg)
As you can see, DevHook thinks the computer is the PSP's memory stick.
6. PiMPStreamer 0.7
7. WiFi Controller
8. IR Shell with DevHook
Step 1. Get your 1.5 PSP, and get it in usb mode.
Step 2. Download this zip file- From RapidShare (http://rapidshare.de/files/32217043/pspirshell20x.zip.html) or From FileFactory (http://www.filefactory.com/file/ec19d5/)
Step 3. When that is done downloading, open it up, enter the MS_ROOT directory, and extract the dh folder to the root of your memorystick.
Step 4. When your computer asks you if you would like to overwrite the files, click yes to all.
Step 5. Go into irshell, version 2.0, 2.1 or 2.2, MAKE SURE THE CPU SPEED IS 222!, and click the devhook icon.
Step 6. Press X to launch the 2.71 XMB, then select and load your ISO, or press circle to launch the umd in drive
Step 7. Devhook will boot up and launch the ISO/UMD. when the psp splash screen ends, you will probaly see the irshell menu in the background. it is perfectly normal, and means you did everything right.
Step 8. The ISO/umd will play normally, and you can press L TRIGGER + SELECT to get to irshell, where you can launch music to play or do any other tasks in the background. if you press L TRIGGER + SELECT while in irshell you will return to the game.
Yes. But IR Shell is the only way to get your ISOs WiFi.
Using just the DevHook mod has to be USB.
AdHoc only, meaning you have to be near your computer.
If you have a laptop with a WiFi card, then you could go anywhere lol :P
but using this method to play isos seems unstable , hang my psp occasionally =[ my bad
Using the DevHook mod is definatly more stable.
I had Bomberman working through WiFi no problem :P
Hey ChaosZero.. thanks so much for the help.. I knew it'd help alotta ppl out there..
Okay so a confirmation here, nethostfs cannot be used with a wireless router, am i right? Only a wireless usb adapter or a card.
Damn all i have is a router.
Oh yeah just one problem i just experienced. When i tried to play mp3 from IR Shell using the "replica" folder i created.. Why does it hang? It will play.. but after a few seconds or so the whole psp just freezes. Anyone has the same problem? Solutions? Help me out please.. thank you..
NetHostfs 1.3- Fixed version for PSPHost
Extract this file to your PSPHost Directory, overwriting the old file.
eg: "C:\Program Files\PSPHost\"
http://dl.qj.net/img/dl.gif (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=0G1AQWXB) (via MegaUpload.com)
http://dl.qj.net/img/dl.gif (http://www.filefactory.com/file/9e2ed6/) (via FileFactory.com)
Danny_kay1710 still has the NetHost 1.2.
Use this file to prevent some of the freezing.
flim_fady- i have this problem too, i think the nethost in psp host is out dated for irhsell 2.0, you can download the new one here http://www.irshell.com/download.html extract the contents and replace the old net host in the files folder of psp host. (Music over the lan isnt that great any ways cuz it lags and skips)
BTW i can't seem to get my iso and cso's running (net host) , after i launch devhook from ms1:/ i hit start and it just freeezes (left it for 15 mins, still didnt do nuthin)
bah chaos beat me to the fix ;)
I noticed it is very, very unstable aswell. I am also having problems.
If there are more problems, I'll remove it from the tutorials.
PSPHost runs in the background. All you see is an Icon in the task bar.
Update: Until it becomes more stable, ISOs through NetHostfs Tutorial has been removed.
Okay cadaber, sorrie im not chaos zero, but i'll try to help. Here's where u went wrong. I'm assuming now that u're using the normal Devhook Launcher instead of the "modded" one given in the ui v1.1.1 installer. So here's how to enable the usb from devhook.
1) Run the ui v1.1.1 installer.
2) Move on to the different choices of installation page like how u did for installing Devhook 0.46 with firmware 2.71 but stop right there.
3) This time click on the one with Mod Pack (USB/Screenshot/No Autorun) for 0.44/0.45
4) Run installation as per normal.
Now i assume u have installed the PSP Type B Driver since u've followed the instructions.
Now go to ur psp and navigate to the memory stick. Look for the one which says "MOD PACK DEVICEHOOK SCREENSHOT USB NO AUTORUN" at the bottom right. Before u run it, run usbhostfs.exe, plug in the usb cable. Then run devhook mod pack.
Now it will be a different screen compared to the usual devhook launcher.
Scroll down to OTHER, and now den u can see REMOTE CTRL, preload address, USB OPTION, SCREENSHOT OPTION and RETURN.
Select USB OPTION, and select enable ss of course ;) once done select RETURN and here's the best part. Try choosing ur iso. lol.
Now under UMD SELECT you have the iso(s) that u actually have on ur comp! (at the right directory of course :D)
There you go, hope it helps. :)
wow i never had this much trouble with a hack before
so now im just gonna list everything to see if anyone would be kind enough to spot the flaw
HARDWARE
US psp 1.5 -> 2.00 -> 2.50 -> 2.60 -> 1.50 -> 2.50 -> 2.60 -> 1.50 with xflash gameboot mods
1 GB sandisk memory stick
ssx on tour UMD in drive
sony usb cable linked to dell pc
SOFTWARE
ui v1.1.1 (pc)
PSPHost Installerv1.5-FULL (pc)
psphost v1.4 (typo) on pc
devhook v46 (psp)
dev hook mod for v.45/46 (psp)
return to 1.50 from 2.xx (psp)
INSTALATION
run psphost setup file on pc, configure settings of psp host, set directory in psphost, enable usb, i formated memory stick on psp, installed devhoook 46 from ui 1.1.1, rerun ui 1.1.1 install devhook mods,
DIRECTORY
psp host
C:\Program Files\Psphost (which contains : driver, files, psp type b install multi
langauge, psphost, sytray.ocx
iso directory
X:\psp\psp iso\psp host (which is a different hard disk on pc, the psphost file contains multiple cso's)
psp directory
ms\psp\game (contains: 5 different devhook folders each containing an eboot)
ms\ISO (empty except for the "your iso's go here" message)
ms\dh\ ( contains: 150F, kd, 271, devhook config file)
PROCEDURE
after instalation and driver instalation
run psphost on pc, enable usb in systray icon,
run devhook mod on psp
at menu choose other, usb option, enable ss
return to main menu
goto umd select and choose ?? (all i have there is UMD disk)
so thats it for procedure with out setting the umd select option i cant really go any further
POSSIBLE FLAWS
??driver instalation error??,
??my devhook mod icon(the picture not the file) is corrupted but still boots without a problem(its always like this even after multiple formats and installs)?? *edit* i think this is because of my custom background
??should i try using devhook .45 instead of .46??
??shuold i edit the devhook config file to display usbhost0:/etc. (i mean the string that it needs to open)??
I tell u what cadaber. I had the exact same problem until i found something useful online. That u hold on.. here's a few instructions i sorta want u to follow so u wont screw up anything..lol..
1)Backup your memory stick to ur hard drive.
2)Format your memstick, just do it even though u've done it lotsa times.
3)Now, forget evrything about psp host. Don't install psp host for now until u've successfully launch ISOs thru USB.
I have a devhook 0.46 tetra pack for you. It's a very simple and easy pack to follow. It's for usbhostfs problem. I'm sorry i dunno how chaos zero does it with the named links but here's the link.
4)Download this:http://www.f-forge.com?d=zv56CMY7suQLteO9qmRP <--- Devhook 0.46 Tetra Pack for usbhostfs
5)Oh yeah uninstall ur PSP Type B Driver just to make sure.
6)Now install all that good shit, devhook 0.46, mod pack.
7)Copy ur "backup-ed" flash1 folder in c:\psp\dh\271 to ms0:\dh\271 to replace ur usual settings.
8)Once devhook is all done and ready, now u settle the PC side of the usbhostfs.
PC part:
1)Unpack the DevHook 0.46 TetraPack For PSP.rar and u can see 2 folders, PC and MS_ROOT, and a readme(should be easy to follow).
2)Copy the contents of the PC folder to your PC. Somewhere u always access for things regarding PSP is best.
3)Notice there's a folder called PSP Type B Driver. Run the application inside it to install the PSP Type B Driver automatically WITHOUT cables connected to the pc!
4)After it's installed, you dun have to worry about installing the driver the usual way. Now, place any ISOs or CSOs that u want in the ISO folder given to u. There will be a cso file called "! XMB BOOT (DO NOT DELETE) !". Do as told. Do not delete. LOL. I think it's kinda useful. It helps to differentiate which is the PC ISO and which is the Memory Stick ISO and also to directly boot to the xmb with the emulated firmware. Once done with the ISOs for the PC part, move on to the PSP side.
PSP part:
1)At firmware 1.5,plug in ur cable and enable usb connection.
2)Now copy the contents of MS_ROOT folder directly into ur memory stick and overwrite all contents. And later on u'll notice there will be some more crap that they add under GAME folder. Seriously, you don't need them. The mod pack is enough. You can delete them afterwards.
Once all overwriting of folders is done.. U're set to go!
USBHOSTFS part:
1)Go back to the PC folder that u have copied to your pc. Look for usbhost inside it. Open it and let it be.
2)Plug in the cable if u had unplugged it at the PSP part.
3)Go to the moddded devhook in ur psp and launch it. Do as usual how u wld do for the setting up.
target: reboot xmb
umd-iso: usbhost0:/ISO/Gangs of London.ISO
umd mode: iso any umd
flash:....2.71
umdver: 2.xx -> 2.00
4)Enable the usb and return to top menu.
5)Check that there's a sound to indicate that ur psp is connected or even better look at the usbhostfs screen to check for "Connected to device"
Once it is, you are close to success! Go and check ur UMD Select! There you have it! Try running it man..
PS: If there's no "Connected to device" It's all about the driver man. Ensure a proper uninstallation of the old driver before installing the new one.
Any more problems about this, you can ask Chaos Zero. Signing off, noobie flim-fady. (:
By the way, thanks chaos for your pre-release. It looks cleaner now with better names for certain directories.
So for the new installer, issit gonna be all the same except for the updated mod pack? Or any major differences?
PSP Host maybe.. or Homebrew Easy Installer.. and the tetra pack is quite cool for an addition. I dun mind if the installer is kinda big in file size.
There are always download managers. Download Accelerator Plus! (:
i just cant get the usb host info to appear as the umd:iso
So all connections is perfect? No hitches and glitches? Did you get the "Connected to device" in usbhostfs.exe window?
I'm quite puzzled too.. but usually for me, that happens(as in when only umd disc appear) only when i run a different usbhostfs.exe
So make sure u ran the usbhostfs.exe which is in the same folder as "ISO" with the Gangs of London inside it.
Say... PC
\ISO\
Gangs of London.cso or Gangs of London.iso
\ PSP Type B Driver
\cygusb0.dll
\cygwin1.dll
\exampleusb.txt
\usbhostfs.exe
So before we go any further, juz a few qns.. Do you have any iso file in ur mem stick? Did it appear too when usb enabled?
Do you have to the 2 "! XMB BOOT (DO NOT DELETE) !", one in each of ur ISO folder, PC and PSP? And the driver, is it working(it does when it shows "Connected to device")?
That's all for now.. i can't really figure out why ur modded devhook cant read the isos from inside ur hardrive even though you alrd enabled the usb. I hope experts here can help you out..
Nope, you only need the DevHook USB mod, plus PSPHost or USBHostfs.
There is a new version of the mod above. I decided to leave ot there.
@ Knud- Test something first for me.
First make sure PSPHost is closed.
Next, go into "C:\Program Files\PSPHost" and open usbhostfs.exe.
A command prompt will open.
Try connecting again and see if that window says anything.
and the WiFi tutorial is still incomplete. You'll have to give me a bit to finish it, as it is more complicated.
The IR Shell User Guide has the steps, If you have a fairly good understanding of networking on windows.
2 things, you must have your IP set as Static, eg 192.168.0.100
You must also make an AdHoc connection on your Computer.
HEy Chaos do i have to do anything with my WI fi reciever in order to use the nethost????
If you have some networking knowledge, you can do read the IR Shell User Guide.
You need to set up a static IP, on both your computer and your PSP.
You must also make a AdHoc connection from your computer.
If you can do these then you can do it.
I'll try to get the tutorial up as fast as I can.
Chaos please help me....
Your PSP ain't bricked. You're fine.
Now to solve the problem, try updating to 2.0 and downgrade back to 1.5 with the MPH Downgrader.
Then format your card and reinstall all your emus.
First, make sure your WLAN switch is turned on.
Second, when you boot your PSP up, quickly throw it into Hold. (or hold down L if hold doesn't work)
See if a blue screen comes up, cause from there, you can undo everything.
It's the DevHook GUI Mod. It will work great with this.
So I take it you are using the DevHook method to first activate the USB half.
Where are you on this?
Now go to your GAME menu and select DevHook (or DevHook Mod in some cases).
In the "Other" Menu, enable USB.
Windows will make the "New Hardware Connected" sound and find the "PSP Type B".
A pop-up will appear to search for the proper drivers.
When it asks to search for drivers online, select "No, Not at this time" and click "Next".
Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)". Click "Next".
Select "Include this location in the search." and browse to "C:\Program Files\PSPHost\driver" (or where you installed PSPHost).
The driver will install. Click "Finish".
I load up my psp, open up irshell, toggle nethost redirect and then go to the ms0:/ icon browse my real mem card and then load up the modded devhook. I then see all the backed up iso's i have on my pc and try to play them using the same devhook settings ive been using if i run them right of the mem card. You shouldn't be able to interact with the window at all, but as soon as you try to connect via usb, it should show that something is there, namely your PSP.
Have you installed the NetHostfs 1.3- Fixed version for PSPHost that is in first page of this tutorial since I belive extracting this file to your PSPHost Directory and overwriting the old file will give you a GUI frontend called PSPHOSTs.exe that look like PSP system that you can run and select the directory you want to use for ISO storage mine is M:\PSPHosts this a separte folder from the install that is on c: and another option it gives you is the option of turning on USB or blocking it.
I also had a question do I need to have devhook mod installed in the PC PSP directory or would it of still worked if I only had installed them to my PSP and left the PC PSP directory in its basic format like pic below?
I got it working but I was just wondering if by me installing DevHook U installer 1.1 ,the mod pack that is included and the DevHook USB Mod in to the PC side of PSP directory is just overkill and maybe is something that in reality is not needed to get this to work.
So if anyone can enlighten me on weather the PC needs all the same folders as PSP please post a reply.
Thanks for the great work you do ChaosZero for the PSP scene. :D
I dunno if it's really neccesary to have the folder look like the MS but I did that also since it doesn't really waste any space on my HD.
It's not that it must mimic a memory stick, it's when you put un USBHost Redirection, some homebrew apps may look for files in other locations and won't find them if it isn't the same as the MS.
I should not this is only for IRShell. DevHook does not not to mimic it. I'll mention that on the first post.
Thanks for the response guys and my games seem to be loading alot faster from my eSata drive then from the mem stick and I can put off buying a new mem stick till the 4gig go down in price. :)
I know its a little off topic but is there a homebrew app that can be used so you are able to browse files located in external hardrive that would be hooked up directly to the PSP and running PSPHost?
Since this would truely give us the freedom to carry are favorite stuff everywere in a small case. :D
At this point I don't think there is one out there. Since you need PSPHost to run and stuff I don't think just carrying around the HD is enough. Also..I don't think there is a USB cable that actually allows the PSP to hook directly into the HD. I have seen someone post that there is a unit acting as a 3rd party that you connect to and have your hd connect to but again I dunno if you can have PSPHost running to make it work.
Usbhosts will load on the PC, but I'm unable to interact with it.. (ie: can't type anything into the mdos window) so when I go to do the psp side, there is no way to enable it from the pc side.
as far as I can tell, ir shell, and the driver for using this connection is set up correctly.
what do you suggest I try now?
Have you installed the NetHostfs 1.3- Fixed version for PSPHost that is in first page of this tutorial since I belive extracting this file to your PSPHost Directory and overwriting the old file will give you a GUI frontend called PSPHOSTs.exe that look like PSP system that you can run and select the directory you want to use for ISO storage mine is M:\PSPHosts this a separte folder from the install that is on c: and another option it gives you is the option of turning on USB or blocking it.
I also had a question do I need to have devhook mod installed in the PC PSP directory or would it of still worked if I only had installed them to my PSP and left the PC PSP directory in its basic format like pic below?
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\PSP\PSPHost
-------- ISO
-------- MP_ROOT
-------- PSP
----- MUSIC
----- GAME
Got IRshell and devhook running great, devhook boots all my iso's via usb.
but im not exactly sure what combinations of settings or homebrew i need to use to play videos files through USB, irshell doesnt seem to do anything when i look in the directory and try to play the video files it finds.
I tried using usbredirect on irshell to make the psp think my pc is the memory card hoping that the files would show up on the psp under videos, but that didnt work because as soon as i exit irshell back to xmb the usb connection closes.
Hi guys,
I'm so close to gettin all of this working, I can just hear the victorious sounds of the HD spinning my ISO through the USB.... :)
I've done all the steps as so patiently and generously posted by the pros on this site, but theres one thing that I can't understand and racked my brains to fix..
I'm using devhook (only)
And my USB enables when I load Devhook (good stuff), I can see the ISOS through devhook no problem (great) , but after I choose the ISO i want to load, and devhook resets the PSP, thus load the firmware... the usb connection is lost on reboot, and doesnt kick in again..
I'm confused, my psp never has a USB connection until I manually (with my 1.5 version) select "USB connection" from the main menu.
Conclusion, USB lost, ISO wont load...
What am I doing wrong?
If you lose your USB connections during reboot it's ok. It is suppose to make that connections sound again. So you need like a few things.
1) The latest DH w/USB enabled
2) NetHostfs 1.3- Fixed version for PSPHost (PSPHost also)
3) Make sure when u run PSPHost that u right click the icon on the bottom right of your screen and enable USB through PSPHost.
4) In PSPHost-->Settings--> Directory to share over USB/Wifi..make sure it points to where your backed up games are.
If you have all these set then go to your 2.71 DH screen and press "Home + L or R" you should be able to see all your games. If not then try going into the DH setting and see if you have the list of games when selecting the ISO.
I wish I could help more but this is what I went through before I got my psp to love my laptop.
i know this ia a little off topic:
but does anyone know of a compression tool that can compress smaller than level 9 in PSP_ISO_Compressor_1.1
i love my cso's but it would be nice if i could get them a little smaller, i'm trying to backup my collection of cso's with a cd burner so im limited to 700mb of course
even when i compress to level 9 and then toss the cso in a rar file im still not getting games like gangs of london down small enough to burn to archive disk
please help the poor (cant afford a dvd burner or an extra hd)
EDIT-> also i dont want to divide the file into multiple parts
(heh wouldnt the answer to my question also help all the kids with 1gb or less memory sticks)
stabpara, how are you exiting? You should use L+UP to Launch XMB, don't exit the shell normally.
My PSP doesn't recognize my Music or my games and only shows 3/6 movies that are in the folder :o Anyone know why? It also hangs and crashes when i try to view my homebrew (BTW, all in the XMB). I tryed everything... replacing the nethost.exe in C:\Program Files\PSPHost\files and putting in the 1.0 prx's in IRSHELL\SYSTEM\ but still no luck :( very frustrating indeed considering i used the nethost and usbhost like a pro in irshell v1.6.
ChaosZero, i noticed in your picture that you did not have the ISO or MP_ROOT folders. I thought you needed them for it to work? does it still work without them? I can view all my files (music, movies, pics,etc) in irshell but when i get to the xmb, it doesn't seem to work.
Anyone got any ideas O_o?
edit: wow i feel dumb. I read that the music and photo's + homebrew doesn't show on the XMB :P It just works through irshell, lol. anyways, im still having the video problem. i need to find out why a couple of my videos arnt showing up.
i also put up a new skin for the main screen of irshell. got it from ahman's site, looks slick. I find it a bit better than http://www.irshell.com/download/menu2.jpg:
Hi guys,
I'm loving the USB functionality, loading ISO's with USB is great stuff...
Please forgive me if this is a dumb (and/or repeated question), but I've searched & searched this site for the answer for the past 3 days, and I give up, I just need some help.
I've been going around my cousins house who has a wireless network card, and I thought, hey... would be cool for us to load the ISO's off his hard drive wirelessly while we both sit outside havin a drink, and playin some games.. :) (He has a 32meg memory card, and I a 1 gig), but this way I thought instead of him being connected with the USB cable, and for me to copy the isos to my memstick all the time, its a pain.
Can someone please point me to a link that I can follow a step by step tut on how to get this sort of dream of mine working :)
Many many thanks for any replies
Does anyone know how to uninstall the drivers? I installed them and clicked on the usb button in irshell but nothing happened. Is anything supposed to happen? Anyway, when I went to devhook and selected the enable usb option my computer didn't recognize anything. I went into the PSPHost folder and I saw PSP Type B Driver install - Multi Language. I tried to install that thinking that I hadn't installed all of the drivers, but now when I go to irshell and click usb button I get the error. When I got the error I tried to install everything again but it told me that I already have the most updated files. I tried clicking the usb button again but I got the same error and the installation came up. I'm not sure what I should do.
@ trippr
you must have the application "usbhostfs" running on you pc in order to utilize homebrew through usb
usbhostfs should be in the same folder as the psp type b driver, just dubble click it
when the window opens it will be a dos window dont do anything with it, you can minimize it if you want but dont X it off. you must keep usb hostfs running the entire time you play through usb.
the dos window that usbhostfs creates also tells you whats going on when you connect it will tell you
once you have opened usbhostfs now plug in you psp and connect via usb, if your doing things correctly the window on your pc will say "connected to device"
good luck
But when i point the installer to look for the PSP-type B driver in the psphost\drivers folder, the system fail to install the driver for me. I think the problem is due to my OS in use, it's WinXP 64bits version. Any chance for 64bits driver? Thanks.
3. IR Shell- NetHostfs
In order for NetHostfs to work with IR Shell, you must have the 1.0 AdHoc PRX Files in the "ms0:\IRSHELL\SYSTEM" directory.
There is a rebuilt version which includes the PRX files in the downloads section above.
First, open up your Network Connections.
Right click on your wireless card.
Select Properties.
Scroll down the list till you find Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
Select Properties.
1. IF YOU ALSO USE WIFI TO CONNECT TO A DLINK ROUTER
Select Use the following IP address.
IP Address: 192.168.0.100
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.100
Hit OK and Apply.
2. IF YOU ALSO USE WIFI TO CONNECT TO A LIKSYSYS ROUTER
Select Use the following IP address.
IP Address: 192.168.1.100
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.100
Hit OK and Apply.
3. IF YOU DON'T USE THE WIFI TO CONNECT TO ANYTHING ELSE
Select Use the following IP address.
IP Address: 100.100.100.101
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 100.100.100.101
Hit OK and Apply.
Click the Wireless Networks tab.
Make a new connection.
Call it something simple like AdHoc.
At the bottom, check AdHoc connection (Peer to Peer)
You may wish to put an WEP encryption.
Select Ok, then OK again to exit the Properties.
Make sure the Wireless card is not connect to anything, like a router.
Right-click on the PSPHost Icon in the System Tray. Select Enable WiFi.
http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/4003/enablewifild3.th.jpg (http://img99.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enablewifild3.jpg)
While in the 1.50 XMB, go to your network connections.
Create a new one called AdHoc (or adhoc)
When asked for the SSID manually type AdHoc and select WEP encryption (if you used it)
For Address Settings choose Custom
For IP Address Settings choose Manual
Select Use the following IP address.
IP Address: 192.168.(0-2 depending on what you used above).101
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.(0-2 depending on what you used above).100
Primary DNS: Anything you want
Next.
On Proxy Server select Do Not Use.
Your finished.
Now go in to IR Shell's Config.
Non-MS Media Access: Enable
Redirect APP view to host: Disable
XMB network for NetHost: AdHoc
Nethost IP/Name (AP) : (This is the address entered on your computer)
nethost Ip (adhoc) : (This is also the address entered on your computer)
NetHost port : 7513
Nethost password:
Allow Adhoc PC connection for homebrew: Enable
Click the nethost0 icon to have access to the files on your PC.
For more information on IR Shell v2.0, see the included User Guide.txt.
sorry my initial post wasnt clear.
other than that everything else is fine.. ive got the homebrews working from my pc..
cadaber
09-14-2006, 11:40 PM
@ noob
every peice of homebrew you install will create a peice of corrupt data like that, it is perfectly normal.
to explain it is kinda complicated so lets just say when you copy and paste the two folders to the GAME folder on your psp, one folder is the core of the program you want to run and the other folder (the one without the % in the title) is more of a helper. (i think the helper one is the one that creates the picture on the xmb or it might be the other way around i forget)
or if you think about homebrew like it was a motorcycle, the folder with the % is the engine and the folder without the % is the kickstarter
i know that what i wrote isnt technically correct but it should give you an understanding of what the two folders are and why you need them both.
as for the corrupt icon in your menu, there are ways to hide that so you dont have to see them anymore.
to hide corrupt icons, connect to your pc and open the folder containing your homebrew (ms:/PSP/GAME)
then rename the folders
the folder with the % should be changed to %__SCE__irshell
and the folder without the percent sign should be changed to __SCE__irshell
there are other techniques for hiding corrupt icons that also require renaming and there are also programs that will automatically name the folders properly so that they dont show corrupt icons like sei psp tool for instance
for the record some homebrew may not function properly with the corrupt data hidden, so you will have to experement in order to see what works best for you.
ir shell will work with this type of naming so you can use the %__SCE__ nameing style and it will be just fine
Juan2320
09-15-2006, 04:36 AM
Or try to rename it like this __SCEirshell and %__SCEirshell(they work for me like that)
I do have a question:
I have installed the iRshell mods so that I can play Devhook with MP3's. Anyway, everything is working great and I realize you have to sacrifice the Devhook USB mods in order to do this.
So I thought that maybe I can install Devhook .46 GUI USB mod on my PC (PSPHost as my fake MS root dir), that way I'd be able to have a clean pspbctnf_game.txt, etc. and then be able to play ISO's that I have stored on my computer. I can load up the devhook GUI (from my PC), but whenever I try and load an ISO it freezes when I start the emulated XMB. I used your recent Devhook Ultimate Installer and installed it on C:\Program Files\PSPHost\ and it appears that everything is in working order, but I am still not able to load my PC backed up ISO's. Is this even possible with a PC install and usbhostf0 run, while having the IRshell mods on my PSP MS?
Note: My PSPHost dir is a replica of my MS root (minus most of the files), and it has all the needed files I think.
Jish go here for DHv46 with USB http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/369769
Thank you and I appreciate the help, but I'm not sure that is what I am looking for.
I have always been able to use the Devhook USB mod without any trouble, until I decided that I wanted to do the iRshell mod/custom firmware so I can allow Device Hook and iRshell to co-exist (so I can multi-task and listen to MP3's while I play). When doing this I had to overwrite the "devhook.prx" and "vshex.prx" as well as commenting out (#) certain calls in the pspbctnf_game.txt (mainly other vshex and usb mods), thus, disabling me from using the USB mod option. I have a bare bones version of Devhook .46 on my memory stick now.
So, after reading Chaos Zero's guide I thought it might me possible to re-install DevHook .46 with the USB mod and GUI mod on to my computer using the usbhostf0. I am able to boot up Devhook .46 GUI/USB through my computer (C:/Program Files/PSPHost/PSP/GAME/Devhook_GUI/eboot.pbp) and am able to scroll through my ISO collection stored on my computer (C:/...PSPHost/ISO/), but right after the 2.71 boots up it freezes. I can toggle the CPU speed, but cannot toggle ISO's.
The only thing that I can think is going wrong, is that somewhere along the line it is still calling for ms0: access. I can deduct this because I can scroll through the ISO's stored on my PC with devhook and if I pick a duplicate one that is stored on my Memory Stick (with the same name ie. MMPU.iso) then it will load up correctly, but not from the USB/PC, but from the Memory Stick (I tested it by unpluggling the USB cable and I was able to play as long as I wanted.)
I guess I'm just wondering is if it is possible to have one PC version of Devhook complete with USBhosts and all....and another memory stick version of Devhook compatible with iRshell. If so, what do I need to edit and where is it calling for ms0: access?
Hey guys,
wicked fourm you got and been very helpfull.
but my first post is a cry for help.
I see you can run iso's on your computer by useing devhook 0.46 with the usb mod
(Im useing the DH that is in ultimate installer: usb edition 0.3)
I would just like to be able to access the games on my pc with the use of DH via a usb cable
(i dont wanna go through the whole irShell thing)
ive installed psphost 1.5 and i installed the psp type B driver.
but when i plug in my psp in DH usb mode it dont say device reconised. Should it?
i have made a copy of my memory card and set it to read ms0 what has my iso folder in it.
Should i select my actual iso folder?
with it set up as it is im not geting acess to anything on my computer so im very much losted.
so if some one out there is kind enuff could you just explain to me what could be wrong or just a quick walk through of how to acess iso from DH via a usb.
thanks for you time.
invertskyline:
"i have made a copy of my memory card and set it to read ms0 what has my iso folder in it.
Should i select my actual iso folder?"
I'm not exactly sure how to answer this because of the wording. But, if I understand you right; you need to select your root directory, not the actual ISO folder (your ISO folder should be in the root directory), so if you are using a MS then "ms0:", if you are using your computers hard drive, then you need to set it where you installed your usbhostf0 (or PSPHost, the default directory would be C:\Program Files\PSPHost\).
Make sure you have USB enabled on PSPHost. Make sure that it has installed all the necessarry components. If all else fails, try using chaos's guide from the beginning. Or try the other guide suggested a couple comments up, it doesn't use PSPHost, but it still uses the same components.
OK, I think I've figured out my problem. Since I can load Devhook via USB, I am able to choose an ISO to load. I noticed that everything is fine, until the XMB restarts (into 2.71) and devhook loses it's USB connection. When it loses it's connection it also loses the ISO file that was being mounted therefore freezing my PSP. I can't think of another way to fix this dilemma, unless maybe, I can load USBhostf0 module to my custom firmware, that way it can be loaded anytime I have my USB cable in? But I still think it would have to have momentarily connect/re-connect during boot up....I don't know though.
Chaos, are you able to use devhook completely via USB?
Well, I still have the same problem with it freezing in the XMB (the wavy lines freeze), even with the CZ fixed Installer. So as of now I am convinced that it is still calling for ms0: access, somewhere, because I cannot boot a game via USB...........when I have iRshell and devhook on my MS.
I have IRShell v2.1 and got everything working. USB & Wireless.
Since IRShell v2.2 came out, I decided to update. However, I am unable to get the wireless adhoc to connect now. USB works, and I have double check all the network configs (I am not a noob in this area).
Wondering if anyone else is having issues with IRshell v2.2? If not, then I will continue to mess around with it until I get it fixed.
Anyone can confirm they have the adhoc wifi working under v2.2?
Thanks.
PS. I love the new GUI USB mod for Devhook. Thanks Buzzer & ChaosZero!
Jish .. I have both Devhook & IRshell + tons other hombrews on my 2GB MS, and they all run fine. You need to make sure you are loading the USB driver that comes with the PSPhost v1.5 from your PC.
1. Get the new GUI Devhook USB Mod that ChaosZero put together. Make sure it is the latest v3.1 as the v3.0 USB did not work. http://www.ultimateinstaller.co.nr/ This devhook works great.
If you follow the tuts on this site, it is real easy to setup.
Jish
I know it is easy to setup. I've set it up before. My question is, can you listen to MP3's whilst playing your ISO's using Devhook and iRshell combined?
If so, then maybe I'll try and reformat my MS and try again. Because right now I can only get the stock version (no mods) working with IRshell, but I can listen to MP3's during gameplay, so at least that works.
Wow, looks like a great tutorial. Gonna try this out when I get my PSP back.
Maybe a stupid question, but do ISO's run pretty smoothly through Ad-Hoc? Any slowdown?
Also, is the tut the same for v2.2 of iRShell? I'm guessing it would be...
my router is the dl-524 d-link
If you are trying to connect to the DLink router and it has some kind of encryption you have to manuely input the SSID and WAP or WEP key depending on which your using to your PSP setting so the router will allow it to pass and as an exapmle: I just leave the finding of Ip to auto along with the rest of the setting except for the encryption of course and it connects to the internet find also you can use the scan option in the network settings to see if the PSP can locate your wireless router and even show if it has encryption on or not if it happens to find it.
Also from my experience with the DL-524 setting it up was a nightmare when I purchased it because I would constantly loose the wifi connecton all of a sudden, so I took it back and got a refund and the sales person from were I got my netgear router(purchased at another shop) told me that if I would came to his shop and asked first he would of warned me since its a very old router and use some kind of propiatory stuff that allows very limited compatiblity with other brands or something to that nature.
To make a long story short take it back and get your money back and purchase a linksys or netgear since also they seem to be easier to setup using there wizards especially when compared to the DLinks interface of the DL-524, trust me those 10-20 dollars more you spend are worth it and avoid the headaches.
Hi,
Nice tut and after a couple of trials and error, I've finally managed to play my ISOs through USB but after reading this forum a couple of times, I would like to know if it is possible to play those ISOs using wifi?
I can connect to my PC using IR Shell (can see the isos on the pc as well) but when I click on the DevHook icon, the psp reboot to fw2.71 but after that, nothing happen (can't even see my isos on the ms). Even the wifi connection "die".
So is it possible to play ISOs through wifi?
Hey guys.. anyone who has succeeded in initiating the nethostsfs connection from psp to the wireless card in the notebook? I need your help.. in CZ's tutorial, he only mentioned "the same address entered in the computer" or something like dat. i did go to the IRShell configurator and i am not sure if i actually put the correct ip addresses. Either in PC, PSP or IRShell. I'm using a linksys router.
As for my notebook, what CZ told us to do is to setup static ip rite. But when i tried to surf the net after that, there's some problem surfing. Is that normal for this?
As for my psp, i created a new connection under Infrastructure, "AdHoc" as said in the tutorial and im asked to set my ip in the psp to 192.168.1.100 but i haf another computer in my house using that same ip.. so there will be a conflict rite?
As for irshell, i seriously don't know what to do with the configuration for both the IPs.
Can anyone show me the way to get nethostfs working.
PS: Before u post the reply, i alrd followed the tutorial closely but i need the help at the not-so-clear instructions where ip addresses are concerned. Thanks guys (:
I've been able to get everything working but I went a different route on everything to get it set up.
I personally have IrShell 2.2, I don't have the PRX files, and I have PSPHosts 1.7 (this seemed necessary for me to get it working) which I downloaded from http://z4.invisionfree.com/psp2k_forums/ I think you have to register.
Anyway, I do all wireless through the wireless router, I don't use AdHoc so I can continue using the PC that is connected, having the gateway and ip the same on the host computer doesn't make sense to me but then again I don't know much about using adhoc at all.
Anyway I have my settings as such:
PC:
192.168.15.102
255.255.255.0
192.168.15.1
DNS I hardcoded what I saw for ipconfig/all when it was using DHCP.
PSP:
192.168.15.106
255.255.255.0
192.168.15.1
DNS I put 192.168.15.1 but I'm not sure if it would work to hardcode it with the same as from the PC, this I haven't tried yet.
My router is obviously 192.168.15.1
I then set up in my irshell the following config:
Enable
Enable
home (this is my home network connection, whatever you have your router set up for)
192.168.15.102
(none for Adhoc)
NetHost Password - I entered "mypass" though I'm not sure it's necessary, saw this in irshell.com forums.
Disable
On the PSPHosts side I have it set up as Chaos Zero does, with a folder on my PC that has the same setup as my memory stick. I enable Wifi, Wifi redirection, and USB.
Anyway, this is what worked for me but I can't say it will work for everyone. I have WEP enabled and it's a bit sluggish going through the menus but my Emulators work well. I also have enabled PIMPStreamer which works when I'm close to the router but obviously degrades quite a bit if I'm any distance away.
Don't know if it will help anyone but I thought I'd post it just in case.
I'm just trying to figure out how to get this thing working via a router.
I've managed to connect NetHostfs in iRShell with my wireless router/modem (Billion 7300G). My pc is connected via cat 5 cable to the 7300G.
Here are the steps I did.
1. Make a copy of your PSP drirectories on your PC
ms0:\
-------- ISO
-------- MP_ROOT
-------- PSP
----- MUSIC
----- GAME
C:\myPSP\
-------- ISO
-------- MP_ROOT
-------- PSP
----- MUSIC
----- GAME
2. Copy nethostfs.exe and cygwin1.dll to the base directory on your PC. In this case it's C:\myPSP\
OK, the PC side of things are done. Now onto the PSP itself.
3. Configure your network settings on your PSP (lets call it "myWLANsettings" for example). Make sure you hardcode it into the PSP rather than letting the DHCP handle it. Test the settings.
4. Go to power settings and make sure "WLAN Power Save" is OFF.
5. Install iRShell 2.2 on your PSP.
6. Go to iRshell's configuration menu.
7. Now enter these values in;
Non-MS Media Access: Enable
Redirect APP view to host: Enable
XMB network for NetHost: (the name of your netowrk settings in the psp, in the case of the above, it's myWLANsettings)
Nethost IP/Name (AP) : (IP of the computer where nethostfs.exe, cygwin1.dll and copy of PSP directories)
nethost Ip (adhoc) : (leave blank)
NetHost port : 7513
Nethost password: mypass
Allow Adhoc PC connection for homebrew: Disable
Save and exit the configuration.
OK, the PSP side of things are done.
8. Run nethostfs.exe
9. Run iRshell on your PSP (if not running already), and go to the ms0: icon.
10. Go to "..". There should be a list now, consisiting of ms0:, nethost0:, usbhost0: etc.
11. Select nethost0:. It should connect and you will be able to browse on your hard drive.
You can enable "NetHost0 Redirection" in the iRShell menu, to redirect mso: to nethost0:. So when you go to your memory stick, its actually the hard drive.
However, this is as far as I have gotten. I have Devhook 0.46 USB (booster), and it crashes (PSP freezes) when I try to launch it from iRShell. I have no idea how to load ISOs from iRShell. I'll fiddle with it more when I get home from work.
Heop this helps anyone,
Cheers.
DH is not working for you because the MP_ROOT is not a folder(it is your MS root where the ISO and PSP folder is)Take the folders out of the MP_ROOT and put them in the MS root like this
ms0:\
-------- ISO
-------- dh
-------- PSP
----- MUSIC
----- GAME
hmm well since this is the ultimate guide to irshell (as well as other things) i was wondering if you could help. Whenever i try to play snes9xtyl while listening to music, the screen turns white (as if to start the intro) and then freezes. I then tried just pausing the music so that i could play when i got into the emu, but it still just froze at the intro. so like i was wondering if there is something i can do through irshell or do i have to find some way to disable/skip/delete the intro for the snes9x tyl emulator
*Also dski your sig says you had a 2.5 ta 082 then you downgraded it to 1.5 the up to 2.0 (i always thought that wasnt possible but i may be wrong [ i thought ta082 rejected ANY fw other than the one it was built with]) so like did you get 0okm's softdown, if so do you have any proof, cuz i was under the impression that nobody got the softdown. you should post your proof here http://www.psp-hacks.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=45970&p=1
yea thanx for the assist but i dont have the target usbhost0:/ISO/Gangs of London.ISO to load in the umd select menu just umd disk
thats whats puzzle ing me
i just cant get the usb host info to appear as the umd:iso
So all connections is perfect? No hitches and glitches? Did you get the "Connected to device" in usbhostfs.exe window?
I'm quite puzzled too.. but usually for me, that happens(as in when only umd disc appear) only when i run a different usbhostfs.exe
So make sure u ran the usbhostfs.exe which is in the same folder as "ISO" with the Gangs of London inside it.
Say... PC
\ISO\
Gangs of London.cso or Gangs of London.iso
\ PSP Type B Driver
\cygusb0.dll
\cygwin1.dll
\exampleusb.txt
\usbhostfs.exe
So before we go any further, juz a few qns.. Do you have any iso file in ur mem stick? Did it appear too when usb enabled?
Do you have to the 2 "! XMB BOOT (DO NOT DELETE) !", one in each of ur ISO folder, PC and PSP? And the driver, is it working(it does when it shows "Connected to device")?
That's all for now.. i can't really figure out why ur modded devhook cant read the isos from inside ur hardrive even though you alrd enabled the usb. I hope experts here can help you out..
Afraid I got a similar problem loading ISO's, I can see the ISO's and choose one, but soon as I click START, the screen goes black and hangs, then PSP shuts down after 10 seconds.
I noticed tho that when I uninstall the type B drivers and manualy try to install PSP.INF it says it has a better driver already installed called OEM5.INF if I remove this it will instead install OEM7.INF if I remove that file it will automaticaly grab OEM5.INF again from somewhere...
Got any ideas as to what to do, Ive even been through the registry to remove PSP.INF, OEM5.INF and OEM7.INF still no luck.
EDIT: I've just read both PSP.inf and OEM5.inf files and they look identicle in their contents, so the only problem I can see which would cause the ISO's not to load is the file name of the inf file, cos the ISO's run great from memorystick.
EDIT2: forget it ive figured it out at last, after about 3 days of trying to get it to work :) very happy!!!
I'm trying to play isos off my pc via USB connection. I've been following Chaos Zeros tutorial but getting nowhere fast.
Here's what i've done:
1. Download and Install PSPHost, i've got in running in my taskbar and i have selected the correct settings i.e Enable USB at program start.
2. I already had devhook 0.46 installed, so i simply downloaded Devhook USB mod, unzipped it and put the two folders (%_SCE_DevHook_Mod and _SCE_DevHook_Mod) into my game folder.
3. I then go to my GAME menu and select DevHook Mod. In the "Other" Menu i select "enable USB" and then nothing.
Apparently this is meant to happen:
Windows will make the "New Hardware Connected" sound and find the "PSP Type B".
A pop-up will appear to search for the proper drivers.
Can anyone see where i've gone wrong?
Elgringo if you what the Devhook USB mod to work you need to to put the dh and PSP folders (not only %_SCE_DevHook_Mod and _SCE_DevHook_Mod)over your old files you already have.
I don't see why, the only folders containes in the Mod pack PSP/Game are %_SCE_DevHook_Mod and _SCE_DevHook_Mod, so i've just put those 2 files in my PSP/GAME folder.
Edit:
Got it sorted, deleted the mod files and then reinstalled devhook usb mod using chaoszeros devhook 0.46 installer, then used usbhostfs.
but... I can't get NETHOST ADHOC mode to work....
here's my situation:
Wireless CARD --- My Computer --- Router(Not Wireless)---------- Freaking Internet
I used this:
3. IF YOU DON'T USE THE WIFI TO CONNECT TO ANYTHING ELSE
Select Use the following IP address.
IP Address: 100.100.100.101
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 100.100.100.101
Hit OK and Apply.
Click the Wireless Networks tab.
Make a new connection.
Call it something simple like AdHoc.
At the bottom, check AdHoc connection (Peer to Peer)
You may wish to put an WEP encryption.
Select Ok, then OK again to exit the Properties.
Make sure the Wireless card is not connect to anything, like a router.
AND THIS:
PSP:
Select Use the following IP address.
IP Address: 192.168.0.101 Is this right? since im NOT useing a WIRELESS router???
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.100 Is this right? since im NOT useing a WIRELESS router???
Primary DNS: 1.0.0.0 I just put a 1 in there...
Next.
On Proxy Server select Do Not Use.
Your finished.
IRSHELL Configurator:
NetHost port : 7513
Nethost password:
Allow Adhoc PC connection for homebrew: Enable
Also this are my computer's IP adresses:
When I try to connect the wifi indicator flikkers... and my computer signal strength is telling me that something connected... but after 10 secs... IrShell says: Error, can't connent.
BTW: I'm running Windows Vista... because my wireless card doesnt work in XP :S:S.... I also tried it on winXP (my bro's computer...) with a working wireless card... but it just doesnt work :S
you can use HenC Dark_AleX's Homebrew Enabler for FW 2.71 and DH(Revision C)(seash for it) for a 2.71 psp so DH works. or Downgrade to 1.5 psp.
Hi, I have a problem. Everytime i run nethost (any version) I get the following message at the top of my screen:
" 5 [main] ? (2780) _dll_crt0: internal error: couldn't determine location of thread function on stack. Expect signal problems."
As it says, I have signal problems and I cant get PSPShell v2.2 to connect to my PC because of this. Previously it did work and I had a suspision that it was due to updates to Windows XP that may have messed it up. I have recently reinstalled Windows and I still have the same problem. Ok i am trying to figure this out and have almost got it. I am using the Tetra install pack and everything is working except the ISO itself. I used umddaxdumper to create an iso copy of my GTA liberty cities game, made over a gig file which I stuck on my laptop hdd. I then use the dev mod to load up 2.71 and when I tried to play the game by clicking on the UMD icon it gives this error:
"The system software of your PSP system is version 2.71. To start, you must update to version 9.99 or later. For update methods, refer to the PSP system instruction manual."
For the pc I replicated everything for DEV hook so it also has all these files and its exactly the same minus the exception of 2 ISO files in the ISO folder which are GTA.ISO & FIREDUPBROWSER.ISO. I also installed PSPHOST to the laptop. I use IRSHELL as well as Devhook so I installed the usbhost driver by enabling usbhost0 in irshell. When I did that it gave me an error and then on my laptop it came up with an Add New Hardware wizard, where I pointed the install to the C:\Program Files\PSPHost\Drivers folder. I then enabled USB in the bootom right of my laptop by click on the psphost icon. I set the usb share to "C:\Program Files\PSP NETHOST" which acts as my ms0:\ for my computer. Meaning that I have my PSP folder and others right inside the PSPNETHOST folder.
After verifing that all this worked in IRShell I went to the Dev mod and changed the settings to this:
TARGET : (reboot XMB)
UMD-ISO :ms0:/ISO/! XMB BOOT (DO NOT DELETE) !.cso
UMD-MODE:ISO- Any GAME UMD
FLASH :ms0:/dh/271
2.XX -> 2.00
CLOCK :222/111
REMOTE :remote controller
USB :Enabled
Also I know the USBHOST works in the Dev Mod because I can hear it detect it everytime I open it. To start the 2.71 firmware I click on Start and it loads it up. From there I just click the UMD disk which looks a little different then normal and I get that error. Hope this describes the problem.
Sorry for the novel any help would be much appreciatted.
Ok so disable and then enable the USB makes it work for you?
Yes but that defeats the purpose of using PSPHost entirely. The whole idea behind PSPHost is to make things more convenient for users (start up windows and just plug psp in, not having to worry about clicking usbhostsfs.exe). It would actually be faster to use usbhostsfs as a shortcut rather than having to disable and enable usb everytime my pc starts up.
First of all wha operating system do you have, if its windows 98 that might be the problem. In windows 98 you need to make sure you have the correct driver installed or it might not work. Also it depends on the USB controller that you have older ones had this issue. My guess is just make sure you have the most updated drivers.
For windows Me you need to double check your drivers as well, althouh drivers may be harder to find. ME is microsofts red headed step child. It had problems with updating its Hall to fit the most recent drivers for the time. Same thing for this OS just try and find drivers that make it work.
Any other os like XP or 2K should just work just update to the latest on the windows update site and youll be set to go.
If all that dosent work the only other thing you can do is just make sure PSPHost is installed correctly. Also you can try just installing Usbhostfs by itself and sticking the a shortcut of the file in the startup folder.
**Another thing you can try is using the MSCONFIG utility, this utility allows you to load/unload whatever is starting up when windows starts. To open this program you will Left click on Start and then click Run, the Run dialog box opens up you will type in MSCONFIG and then hit OK. On this dialog box you will see 5 tabs or so depending on what OS you are running. for XP the tabs are:
General -
SYSTEM.INI - this is a file that windows uses on its initial boot to configure settings for applications in windows and windows itself. This pretty much replaced the Config.sys file in 98.
WIN.INI - Same with this one except this is more pointed to windows settings then anything. This also replaced the Config.sys file.
BOOT.INI - This is a file that allows you to edit how windows starts up, most likely wont need to mess with this but incase you do they put this on MSCONFIG for windows xp and I think maybe even 2K. This pretty much replaced the autoexec.bat file in earlier versions of windows.
Services - This is a ,ist of the services like for instance McAfee framework service which is a service for the mcafee virus scanner on my laptop.
Startup - This tab is basically a list of all programs that are set to startup when windows starts.
So what does it all mean, well thats not important for right now, you want learn what it means go take an A+ class. For now just try disabling all the stuff in the services & startup and see if the makes a difference. In windows Xp there is this nice button that says Hide all Microsoft services, you can click this to hide all the microsoft services windows needs to load. Then you can disable the rest of the services, if the problem isnt resolved then you can try disabling them as well. Pretty much this is a process of illimination, disable see if problem still exist if it goes away then try enabling things to see if it comes back. When it does you find out what it is thats causing the issue and either uninstall/reinstall the program associated with it or just get rid of it entirely(depending on what it is, you also have the option of leaving it disabled). If disabling everything dosent get rid of the problem dont quit their, remember their might be some things that need to load in order for this to work. For example Im betting the PSPHOST needs to startup and most likely some service for the usb driver.
This is all thanks to my support for microsoft 98-me-xp, hope it helps.
Thanks for the help Deathlord. It seems the problem was PSPHost itself. After some testing it seems enabling it to startup as well as enabling usb on program launch makes PSPHost only do one of those (in this launch on windows startup). So the way I fixed the problem was by creating a shortcut to PSPHost and placing it in the startup folder. Then I only checked enable usb on program startup and now it works perfectly.
If you want a cleaner way to do this I figured it out yesterday, read below for further details.
My suggeston to get iso's to work is to take Juans advice and use the link from the post below:
I only use DHv46 with USB mods.(no IRsell)
Go here for DH USB help http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/369769 (a Tutorial)
I had issues and went back and got it working, now once you get that working if you want PSPHost to work you just Install PSPHost like normal, then get the zipped USBHostfs0 file from the link above and copy all the files in the C:\Program files\PSPHost\ folder. It will tell you they already exist if you do it right and you just need to overwrite them. (Dont be lazy and just copy them over, you need to figure out where the files are and then place them in the same place. For example if usbhostfs0.exe is in C:\Program files\PSPHost\files\ then thats where you need to put it.
Once done just make sure you close out of psphost if its started and restart it and boom it works perfectly.
Let me know if you have any questions, lewanuva & Juan my next step is to figure out how to get nethost to work through just devhook. Ill let you know if I can figure it out, chaos zero you really need to put a iso player in IRShell that program is awsome the more features you add the happier it makes me. Also the more configuration options you give us the better. One idea I had was to give an option to set all xmb options inside of irshell if you can figure it out. Well back to reading and researching some while I have free time.
Sorry I keep writing such long post but it takes awhile for people to post it seems, anyway just a few things on my work around I found out that some it seems like when I restart my machine I have to disable/enable the psphost to see the files in the right place. Also it made reinstall the usbhost driver as well, so I guess I still have to figure that out. Seems the best way to get this to work is to just use the startup folder as I suggested before. As for the DevHook and the nethostfs0 I found a .prx file for it but there is no way to implement it in devhook so even though it exist you cant really use it. Also I have no way of telling if this is a fake obviosly because I cant test it. Plus I downloaded this a bit ago so I dont remember where I got it, as soon as I remember Ill let you all know.
Back again guys, I think I figured out why it made me reinstall the usbhost driver. Probably had to do with me moving the files so when windows restarted it couldnt find the files that where there because they where replaced with other files. So that problem went away if it comes back ill let you know. As for disabling/reenabling the usb to get it to see the iso's probably has to do with whoever is the psphost designer. If we want it to work they will have to update the program. Does anyone know who the editor is again, ill look into it and submit an email to him/her.
Ok I just sent this to Danny_Kay1710 of whom is shown to be the author of psphost at least on psp-hacks site:
Hey real quick cause I know you prob have a few things to read on, I found when using PSPHost it dosent let you take advantage of the usbhostfs0 in DevHook. Or at least I couldnt get it to work, one thing I got to work was using another usbhostfs0 driver and its files and coping them in the place of your usbhostfs0 files. There is only one problem, when ever I restart it always points back to the c:\program files\psphost\ file or C:\documents & settings\%Local User%\ I dont know why. To fix it you just disable and then enable usb in your psphost program. But you have to do this everytime you restart your program, either manually or by restarting windows. Anyway the link I got the usbhostfs0 files from is here on this post if you want it:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/369769
Also I have been keeping an update on trying to figure some stuff out with others on this post on PSP-Hacks own forum here:
thanks for you time.
Well thats it for now guys im out, let me know if any of you figure anything out. Oh one last thing, I remember reading about how chaos zero took off his tutorial for the nethostfs0 option for iso's because it was unstable as of right now. I just got a reply from the author of psphost, as soon as he is on chat ill chat him about the problem with psphost and see if we can get it fixed. Should be pretty simple, once he figures out which one of his files is the files that isnt working he will just need to update that file. Suggested he just use the files from the link that Juan pointed me to earlier cause they seem to work partially. If he does I think all he will need to do is update the code to use those files and everything should be ship shape. But then again Im not the coder for this program so I dont know.
Still no response from Dark_Alex, although I figure hes probably got his hands full and is too busy to speak to just anyone. If anyone has an email or IM I could try him at or if they want to try and get his attention let me know. I just wanted to point him to the .prx file that I found for DevHook for the Nethostfs0 and wanted to see if it might aid in helping get the nethostfs0 working for DevHook. Would be pretty nice for DevHook to have a wireless access to my Laptops HDD.
Ok.
Windows 98. My gui works for windows 98 but i cannot garentee the compatibility with the core exe's. I happen to know usbhostfs will not work for 98. Other apps have not been tested.
Autostart USB/WIFI directory problem. The problem is fixed and i am delaying an update until i clarify there is nothing else i need to address. This is where if usb is set to autostart it shares only defaul directory.
If there is anything else let me know!!
danny_kay1710
btw can i point out that you are really best off reporting bugs to my site www.psp2k.co.nr - it is impossible for me to look through all forums looking for bugs like the few that are hidden in with this. My site is fixed as well now - you havent been able to register for a while but now u can
[EDIT] - I confirm that the usbhostfs.exe included with psphost 1.8 works with Windows XP and wedges mod (exact installation of devhook with wedges mod for 2.71f available http://www.psp2k.thehostingtown.com/infusions/pro_download_panel/download.php?did=106)
PSPHOST 1.9 WILL SUPPORT X64 so you will have to bear with me i need to test the usbhostfs.exe for 64 bit to make sure it maintains compatibility with 32bit and i will included both drivers
If your on about adding support for usbhostfs/nethostfs to windows 98 provide me with a link to the working exe files and i will add check box for windows 98 support in settings that will launch the 98 version instead.
Hope this helps people
V1.9 of PSPHost is out now and V2.0 will soon be out for some other bug fixes. V1.9 of psphost fixes the common issue that everyone has been having with it. You no longer have to disconnect/reconnect your wifi/usbhost in order for it to see your directoy instead of the default directory. Thanks Danny you rock!
What am I doing wrong?
My psp is in devhook emulating 2.71, the usb is enabled in devhook and I have PSPHost v2.0 set to
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\PSP\PSPHost
-------- ISO
-------- MP_ROOT
-------- PSP
----- MUSIC
----- GAME
But when I press home then L or R the only iso's I see are the ones in my memory stick not what I have in the ISO folder in the pc.
Help please.
Did you hear your usb connecting on your PC when you opened the dev hook program? If not your driver is probably not set up correctly on your machine.
The first time I ran usbhost I had to install the driver from
C:\Program Files\PSPHost\driver
Should I uninstall and try again?
Do you have the usbhost runing in your PC?
Go back 1 or 2 pages here and look for a link to a USB tutorial for DHv46.
I dont know if someone pointed this out yet but the 1.0 PRX file-package required for ad-hoc connection that's available in this guide is incomplete.
The ifhanlde.prx file is missing from it, you can get that file from psp-hacks download section by downloading the dumped version of FW 1.0
Ad-hoc connection useing iRShell wont work without it (atleast not v3).. took me a few hours to figure out why the f**k it didnt work but I guess that's what u get when you opt for the pre-packaged solution :bucktooth:
hi juan, thanks for answering.
you mean i just have to install devhook usb mod under the 2.71SE-C ? I already tried that. didn't work for me.
while the link you gave, it seems nobody got to work it either based from the feedbacks.
I tell u what cadaber. I had the exact same problem until i found something useful online. That u hold on.. here's a few instructions i sorta want u to follow so u wont screw up anything..lol..
1)Backup your memory stick to ur hard drive.
2)Format your memstick, just do it even though u've done it lotsa times.
3)Now, forget evrything about psp host. Don't install psp host for now until u've successfully launch ISOs thru USB.
I have a devhook 0.46 tetra pack for you. It's a very simple and easy pack to follow. It's for usbhostfs problem. I'm sorry i dunno how chaos zero does it with the named links but here's the link.
4)Download this:http://www.f-forge.com?d=zv56CMY7suQLteO9qmRP <--- Devhook 0.46 Tetra Pack for usbhostfs
5)Oh yeah uninstall ur PSP Type B Driver just to make sure.
6)Now install all that good shit, devhook 0.46, mod pack.
7)Copy ur "backup-ed" flash1 folder in c:\psp\dh\271 to ms0:\dh\271 to replace ur usual settings.
8)Once devhook is all done and ready, now u settle the PC side of the usbhostfs.
PC part:
1)Unpack the DevHook 0.46 TetraPack For PSP.rar and u can see 2 folders, PC and MS_ROOT, and a readme(should be easy to follow).
2)Copy the contents of the PC folder to your PC. Somewhere u always access for things regarding PSP is best.
3)Notice there's a folder called PSP Type B Driver. Run the application inside it to install the PSP Type B Driver automatically WITHOUT cables connected to the pc!
4)After it's installed, you dun have to worry about installing the driver the usual way. Now, place any ISOs or CSOs that u want in the ISO folder given to u. There will be a cso file called "! XMB BOOT (DO NOT DELETE) !". Do as told. Do not delete. LOL. I think it's kinda useful. It helps to differentiate which is the PC ISO and which is the Memory Stick ISO and also to directly boot to the xmb with the emulated firmware. Once done with the ISOs for the PC part, move on to the PSP side.
PSP part:
1)At firmware 1.5,plug in ur cable and enable usb connection.
2)Now copy the contents of MS_ROOT folder directly into ur memory stick and overwrite all contents. And later on u'll notice there will be some more crap that they add under GAME folder. Seriously, you don't need them. The mod pack is enough. You can delete them afterwards.
Once all overwriting of folders is done.. U're set to go!
USBHOSTFS part:
1)Go back to the PC folder that u have copied to your pc. Look for usbhost inside it. Open it and let it be.
2)Plug in the cable if u had unplugged it at the PSP part.
3)Go to the moddded devhook in ur psp and launch it. Do as usual how u wld do for the setting up.
target: reboot xmb
umd-iso: usbhost0:/ISO/Gangs of London.ISO
umd mode: iso any umd
flash:....2.71
umdver: 2.xx -> 2.00
4)Enable the usb and return to top menu.
5)Check that there's a sound to indicate that ur psp is connected or even better look at the usbhostfs screen to check for "Connected to device"
Once it is, you are close to success! Go and check ur UMD Select! There you have it! Try running it man..
PS: If there's no "Connected to device" It's all about the driver man. Ensure a proper uninstallation of the old driver before installing the new one.
Any more problems about this, you can ask Chaos Zero. Signing off, noobie flim-fady. (:
Cheers for that little tut m8 it got me sorted witin 10 mins and i have been trying to get this running for days lol
