Well, there is a new PSP Mag as amny r out there. This pic came from anew one called PSP Gag Mags. Its small, but it s pretty good for a mag made single-handedly by one guy! Anyway, it focuses on rumors and stuff, and tis was a cool one'

http://img346.imageshack.us/img346/3601/blankumds2hj.jpg

If this does indeed come a reality, I will DEFINATELY buy a drive along with some blank UMDs b4 thye get sued by $ony. I would LOVE to put ISOs on these! It would also be great to be allowed to make homebrew that are like 500 Megs!! Anyway, I guess we'll have to wait and see. Less than a year. This seems a bit possible, tho... Seems too iffy. The pic of the gold UMD looks like a simple photoshop session's outcome. So again, we'll just have 2 wait and see, and hope its true.

Its not meant to be BS. The mag is meant to be about all the rumors that might be true. Hey, its less than a year. and even if these guys dont do it, some will eventually!! TRUST ME!

Read the picture. It says they are releasing a UMD drive. That means one u put on your comp.

But why would you need it? A 2GB stick would cost less.

The only added use I can see right now would be to burn your own UMD movies at the full resolution.

Maybe if ISO loaders ever get fully stoped? This might might a be good solution then?

Xy

How would they get fully stopped? Only WiFi and Firmware upgrade on the latest cool games could ever do that. But there would still be people giving up on Wifi and the latest games. Theres always a crack in the system.

There is not always a software crack. $ony can lock the system down enough where a hardware crack is required. Not to likely that will happen. Not internaly anyway.

One of the things I've been messing around with is the PRX files. From what I can tell there are certain PRX files right now that REQUIRE firmware v1.5. Thus I am not able to play those.

I think the games that force you to update are not forcing just for the hell of it. I think those games actualy physicaly REQUIRE v1.5. Thus the PRX file sizes are changing.

So lets flash forward a year or so. The games require v2.13 firmware (whatever). I still have v1.0. No crack yet for even v2.0.... people are stuck and can not play new games.

So they update, no more homebrew. No more loaders. Unless you have a UMD burner.....

I saw the rest of the mag and it said that the producers anticipate the prices to be $500 for the burner and $15 for blank UMDs in packs of 3. so the UMds are like 5 bucks each. Get a friend with one of the drives and u get almost free stuff. Ad u have to think of it in the long run. a 2GB stick is like how much? ok, I thought so. Now I know 500 bux is a lot, but the price of UMDs is nothin'! buy a WHOLE BYNCH and burn every DVD u ever rent or netflix. Then, u can play homebrew off of the UMD. Maybe for some a 2GB would be better, but wutever.

There's a store by my cousins house that is like underground (good video game store probably better than ebgames, but not really noticed) that sells blank umds.

Well if u plan on burning a HWOLE lot onto UMDs, then u can get ur money's worth and then some! Obnly thing is slow write speeds and that only ur comp can use it.

I would be very expensive but if you watch alot of movie on your psp i think it might be worth it since the umds are 1.5 gb and my 1 gb card cost 100 dollars and i have to go back to my computer and download another movie on to it which gets very boring.

Exira

"umds are 1.5 gb"

midnight club 3 DUB edition is 1.6 gigs

ISOHaven
07-19-2005, 06:39 PM
UMDs are 1.8GB

The rumor is the burnable ones will be 1.5GB

Is that what you meant?

That might be to cut down on pirating.

Mitwang
07-19-2005, 11:53 PM
sounds too good to be true. also umd's are only .9gb and 1.8gb not 1.5gb

ISOHaven
07-19-2005, 11:59 PM
Where did you get .9gb?

Mitwang
07-20-2005, 12:15 AM
.9gb is single layer 1.8 is dual layer

RaiderX
07-20-2005, 02:42 AM
The total of a UMD space is 1.8 GB. The blanks are said to be 1.4 GB. Theystate, they r just .4 GB short. Which really is atually a lot, but still there is good room. The only part about UMD vs. MS, is that the UMD runs slower and wastes more power.

where is this store? i really dont think that there blank UMD's! think about it, and, if they were really it means somebody that works at sony took a few home and sold them, but that woundt help, why? because you need a driver to burn them!!

ISOHaven

.9gb is single layer 1.8 is dual layer

I know they are dual layer but I can't find any single layer specs. I don't think single layer is an option. That is, I don't think they manufacture two different disc types.

Mitwang
07-20-2005, 12:55 PM
no no no, its the same disc type. you choose when burning it whthere you want to burn dual layer or single. The same with dvd's. you dont buy special dual layer ones, you just burn dua layer onto a regualr dvd

ISOHaven

"The same with dvd's. you dont buy special dual layer ones, you just burn dua layer onto a regualr dvd"

I don't know what the heck you are talking about. YOU CAN NOT BURN DUAL LAYER TO SINGLE LAYER DVDS!!!!! You MUST buy DUAL LAYER and have a DUAL LAYER burner in order to burn DUAL LAYER DVDs.

I have never seen any such selections. ISO 9660 has both single layer and dual layer. Even with a dual layer DVD you don't select single or dual you just burn.

UMDs are no different. There are only dual layer UMDs and you press up 1.8GB. There is nothing more to it.

If they ever make burnable ones they will be 1.5GB, period. No single layer no nothing except 1.5GB worth of space. The fact that the UMD will have two layers means absolutly nothing to the end user.

umds have always reminded me of mini dvd discs. Same space (1.8gigs) and same size. ONly thing is that the umd is in a case. I wonder how much different the actual designs are (how they're written and read)

ISOHaven
07-22-2005, 02:34 AM
Completly different. Take a look at the specs. Mini DVD is the same format as DVD. That's why you are able to play them in a normal DVD player.

Ever try to put a UMD in your PC?

Mitwang
07-22-2005, 03:06 AM
dont even go there. stupid people tried that when the psp first came out. I also think some other guy put it in his toaster. tsk tsk. when will they learn?

ISOHaven
07-22-2005, 03:15 AM
Toaster??? Ah....OK!

When I bought my PSP on day ONE I listened to the sampler disc then tore it out of the case and poped it in my PC. So why exactly am I stupid? No specs where released on the UMD at the time. There is NEVER anything wrong with experimenting!

my friend started a rumor that says you can take the minidisc cd out of its case and put it into the umd's. despite the discs being the same size, i dont think it would work as the minidisc's memory is smaller :| kind of a nifty idea though

Exira
07-22-2005, 09:57 AM
a umd is formatted with a diferent laser than a minidisc that wouldn't work

ISOHaven
07-22-2005, 11:52 AM
Yeah...wasn't that all just cleared up????

I hate people that talk shit. You need to tell your lying ass friend to shut the hell up!

Chode Messiah
07-22-2005, 02:09 PM
stick him in his shit. that would be cool though if u could stick mini discs in the psp.
