View Full Version : PSP & XLink KAI Help
We have a tutorial on our page which explains how to setup XLink KAI to work with your PSP to allow online gaming.
You can check it out here: http://www.psp-hacks.com/psp-online-gaming.php
This uses the custom firmware/router technique. There are others which involve using a wireless PCI card. Unfortunately I do not have a wireless NIC to test, below are the supposed steps:
First setup up the PSP:
- Under "Network Settings", select "Ad Hoc Mode" and use CH 1.
On your PC:
- Head to "Network Settings"
- Go to the "Properties" of your wireless network connection
- Select "TCP/IP" and use the following information:
IP: 10.0.0.1
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
- Click the "Wireless Networks" tab at the top of the dialog box
- Select "Advanced" and tick off "Computer-to-computer (ad hoc) networks only" and "Automatically connect to non-preferred networks"
XLink KAI:
- Load up the XLink configuration tool
- Under "Network Adaptor" select your wireless card
- Start the XLink GUI
Now, to play:
- Enable your wireless card
- Switch on your PSP and fire up any XLink supported Ad Hoc game
- Your PSP and Windows PC should be able to talk with each other
- Select an arena that corresponds to your game. And play!
Please remember this is untested as I do not have a wireless NIC to play with. If I missed a step, or made a mistake, please correct me.
Any questions with regards to the router method, ask away. I was able to successfully get this working.
Enjoy!

I have a problem trying to flash my router. When i go to my administration website and try to upgrade the firm ware, it says bad header CRC and fails. I have a Westell VersaLink wireless modem! Any help would be great!

Modem doesn't matter what type of router do you have?
The kaid firmware only runs on the Linksys WRT54G/GS & Buffalo G-54 wireless routers. Like alias said, your modem doesn't matter.

i can't download Custom PSP / XLink KAID router firmware. When i download it it says "The compressed (zipped) folder is invaled or corrupted." What should i do? Do I need this to do what it says above?
Did you download it from our site? I just tried it and it seemed to work fine. I was able to open and uncompress the zip archive without a hitch.

Yeah, i got it from your site. When i do it on my other PC it works but when i use my laptop (with the wireless) it says its corrupt. What should i do? any settings i should change?

05-18-2005, 12:45 AM
I just tried and now it works! However, this file is a BIN file. What am i supposed to do with it? where should i save it to? when i click it it asks what program to use to open it. Should i use a certain program?
You flash your router's firmware with this. If you do not have a Linksys WRT54G or WRT546S or a Buffalo WBR-G54 wireless router, DO NOT use this firmware. It will more than likely cause permanent damage to your router.

i click on the power cord (connect) but it cannot connect to kai for some reason

Is there absolutely no way to use other wireless connections while the xkai is running on your router? I'd like to be able to setup my router thru my wifi desktop since the router isn't near it. I mean there are some people who's computers they're running xkai on aren't connected directly to the router!
The router is capable of switching between the two different modes - Access Point (AP) and Ad Hoc.
You only require the router to be in Ad Hoc mode when you want to play on XLink or XBConnect.
You can, at anytime, switch your router back to AP mode allowing connectivity with your other wireless devices.

just do exactly what our instructions say (there is a link in the very first post)..except after u set it up in JAVA go back and put it in DEFAULT. Dont change anything else..just the default stuff. Default is definetly ALOT better than JAVA. Make sure u turn the kai engine off too! PM me with any questions.
I have the exact setup that was previously mentioned (with the default change) and it works everytime. I am always on and playing ppl from all over the world. Good luck!

I'm not a noob when it comes to networking but this is my first time playing around with this 2 apps. Thanks for any suggestions.

IceKing,
Please make sure that your wireless network card is enabled, this will give display the 'Wireless Networks' tab, if this fails then connect to your normal wireless network and then make the changes. When you connect to your normal network the tab WILL be there :)

I've noticed this too. the problem is, if you look at the bottom of your router, that you have a wrt54G v5. the reason the update doesnt work for it is because the router is running VxWorks instead of linux like it used to. the firmware isnt compatible with it so you will have to use a workaround. it should be as easy as tweaking some stuff. i havent gotten it working yet, but for xbox i was able to. xlink kai autoconfigured the firewall and router to allow my xbox junk so im free to do that. if i were you, i would go to the xlink kai website (just type xlink kai into firefox and hit enter) and it should take you there. search the forums there and if you dont find it, email the support people. i think thats what i will do as soon as i beat the god d*** last 2 missions of GTA LCS.
ps. i love how they have socom in there when socom can be played through its own server. probably for those running it on 1.5.[/quote]

Hi everyone, I found all this info on getting the prog to work, (haven't done it yet, waiting on my psp), but what I don't understand is, once you get the connection setup, how exactly is it that you manage to play? For the sake of an example, let's say me and my friend can both set this up, and we are at each person's house. How do we play?

You flash your router's firmware with this. If you do not have a Linksys WRT54G or WRT546S or a Buffalo WBR-G54 wireless router, DO NOT use this firmware. It will more than likely cause permanent damage to your router.
ok i know my router is linksys but how do i find out if its a WRT54G or WRT546S? please help
at the underneath it has model no. and version.
its important that its v2 or below.
but i think a new firmware came out thats able to flash them all.
check xlink kai forums it has tuts it will tell you all you need to know and good help if needed.

Just to clear up two things:
1) The updated firmware, We have a Linksys WRT54G and my mom uses it for her laptop and isn't mine. I just want to know if the Firmware for this is not going to screw up her connection or change any settings.
2) Do you need a hacked PSP with CFW because currently I have a PSP running OFW 5.51 and do not want to hack it at the moment.
