i recently purchased a 2gb high speed SONY memory pro duo which look like this for $122.99 (retail for highspeed is $450) from eBAY. notice the PSP sign on the top right corner, retail versions do not have this.

http://img368.imageshack.us/my.php?i...tickduo7ty.jpg

now, perusing through the Redflagdeals forums, one reader has come to the conclusion that i believe to be true.

http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/s...d.php?t=224382

from juched of Redflagdeals forums;
I personally do not believe this is neccessarily true. My theory is that sony cancelled the japan model MSX-M2GN and replaced it with the MSX-M2GNU (as I can see from the blog posting and the sony link I posted before). From the FAQ on the japan sony site, there is no difference between these 2 models, but had to do with a change in the manufacturer, probably because of poor quality. (perhaps this explains the new vs. old packaging we are seeing?).

So, that would explain the poor quality control that we are hearing about with these cards. Also, from my understanding, older models, or last years model of any electronic item does not sell well in japan. They discontinued selling the non-U model in late novemeber/early dec (I read nov 25 or dec 1). Soon afterwards the guy I bought from started selling these cards from china (dec 10th I believe). Could that mean they dumped the older cards for cheap trying to clear their inventory?

Or it could be that these are indeed fake, with some having problems with the card after a few days of playing with it, and some not having real problems at all.

Sandisk also has its share of fakes, link here.

in the end i've decided to go on with the transaction since i already purchased it yesterday, and its out for shipping already. i looked through my buyer's feedback and he hasn't received a negative feedback yet, even from the sony ms buyer's. i'll keep you guys up to date once i receive my shipment.

This is old news, ppl have been swapping them and taking them back to retail stores for months. I am not suprised that someone is selling them on ebay. If your gonna use homebrew, at least you can spring for a full priced card. :rolleyes:

So I got the "fake" Sony memory card in the mail today and they work fine. The whole fake business was created by a bunch of highly paranoid people. The reason being they are cheap is because Sony made a new version of its high speed version and so the older obsolete ones were sold off for cheap.

If got that exact 2GB Memmory Stick, bought it from Ebay.

I haven't had any problems with the Memmorystick so i can't complain.
