PSP Firmware 6.20 Released; PSPgo Exploit Patched
greg | November 19, 2009
Update: Hate to say I told ya so… But FreePlay has confirmed it — the recently discovered PSPgo save game exploit has been patched in firmware 6.20. Womp waaa…
You may miss it if you’re using 5.50 GEN-D2… That reports the latest version of the system software is already installed, which is no longer the case… Firmware 6.20 is live right now.
What’s new? Straight from Eric Lempell:
- Digital Comics Reader – PlayStation Network Digital Comics is a new service launching in December. It will allow you to download hundreds of classic and new comics from the PlayStation Store and read them page by page or frame by frame on your PSP system. Firmware update (v6.20) includes the Digital Comics reader application, which you’ll find under a new section called “Extras” on the XMB. Please note, the comic reader is an additional download; once you’ve loaded (v6.20) onto your system, simply click on the comic reader icon under “Extras” to download it to your PSP. In addition, you’ll be able to try out a free digital comic sample from the service soon. Visit www.playstationcomics.com for more information.
- Export video/photo playlists – This is a new feature that allows you to export your video and photo playlists from your PC to your PSP system through Media Go. Download the latest version of Media Go (v1.3) for this and a few additional enhancements.
I wouldn’t be updating so quickly if you’re a PSPgo owner, or an owner of any Pandora-proof PSP for that matter… Wait and see whether or not this update patches the recently discovered/rumoured exploit that my main man Beaker covered earlier last week. We’ll keep you posted.

Comments (39)Two Ongoing Dashhacks Contests
greg | October 31, 2009
Come one, come all… We have a couple things going on you may wanna know about or be a part of…

First and foremost — you remember when Dashhacker stormed the PS3 scene and released Open Remote Play? Well like you, he’s a busy and powerful man. So with that in mind we’ve issued a bounty: be the first to port Open Remote Play to the iPhone (or iPod Touch) and earn some cash. Right now the pot is at $1,510 CAD. If you’re interested you can read more about this bounty right here.

Second up — a contest sponsored by GameYeeeah.com. This one is simple: follow instructions and enter by answering the question in this here forum thread. 5 winners will be chosen at random and may select their prize from the GameYeeeah.com prize pool.
Comments (17)PlayStation Store Blocked on 5.50 GEN-B
greg | October 13, 2009
What?! Did this just happen? After receiving an email from mist3rgrinch saying PlayStation Store access had been cut off for 5.50 GEN users I equipped my PSP-2000 and tried myself…
So be it — 5.50 GEN-B2 — access denied. Who’s got the workaround? The ol’ version.txt trick doesn’t work.
Comments (141)Dashhacks Tagging Contest: The Results Are In…
greg | October 7, 2009
Update: Everything checks out… Congratulations, oZmighty — the PSPgo is all yours. Email your shipping info if you haven’t already.
All right… First, thanks to everyone who participated in the Dashhacks “tagging” (and I use that term loosely) contest. Five fortunate folk, who will receive a PSPgo (PSP-N1001), were chosen based on creativity and pure awesomeness.
Tweeted were several entries — some super awesome, some awesome, some questionable… But whatever the case — you’re all winners. That’s right — just for sending something in you may claim a free Dashhacks T-shirt. Please email admin @ dashhacks (.com) with your twitter name, your address, desired size (L or XL only), and whether you want white on black or black on white.
Now for the PSPgo winners:
Congratulations guys, and girls.
You can view all entries by clicking here.
But wait… That’s only 4. Yeah, I know this… My colleagues and I are here deadlocked… So we’re entering sudden death. Let me give you a little background info:
Twitterer contestant, acessage, sent this in… At first glance it’s somewhat believable; however, upon further investigation this Atom Smasher’s Road Construction Sign Generator turned up. Declared a winner, but as we sit here and discuss, some believe the win should be retracted.
Tsk tsk…
With that said: we’ve compiled a small list of people who actually went out(side) and did something… Not that we don’t appreciate the photoshops — they’re cool too.
Sudden Death: Who Gets the GO?
The sudden death showdown will run for exactly 24 hours. Whoever takes in the most votes takes home the PSPgo. That simple.
Thanks again.
And you may want to keep following us for future events.

Comments (73)PSPgo Welcomes the TA-091 and TA-094
greg | October 2, 2009
I picked up my PSPgo the other day, it came shipped with firmware 5.70, and a mandatory update forced me to 6.10 as soon as I got it online… But what I didn’t know, behind all its elegance was a TA-091 motherboard, or wait… Maybe it’s a TA-094. Whatever the case – they’re new – they’re locked down. We go-getters might be waiting awhile… Keep your go close; keep your fat/slim closer.

More TA-091 / TA-094 pics can be viewed following the source link.
And on another note, the fine people who’ve participated in the Dashhacks contest; we’ll be shipping yours out this coming week.

Comments (42)PSP Firmware 6.10 Released *Updated*
greg | September 30, 2009
Update: And here it is… PSP Firmware Update 6.10.
Look at Sony acting all cool with their new firmware update… *Razor Ramon’s a toothpick* In our world it’s Yoshihiro and his 5.55/6.00 Games Decrypter. Join us, see what’s up.
But for real, Sony is preppin’ to release their 6.10 firmware update, which is of course aimed towards new PSPgo owners. Check it, from the L-Man himself:
PSP update (v6.10) will be available soon. This is a big update for us in preparation for the launch of PSPgo. New PSPgo owners should make sure to download the update to ensure full compatibility with MediaGo and with all PSP titles. Here are some of the key features we’ll be introducing:
SensMe
SensMe channels is a new music application for PSP that uses Sony’s proprietary 12 Tone Analysis technology to evaluate music tracks that have been imported from Media Go application on your PC to your PSP. The application automatically categorizes the tracks into 12 channels such as “Relax” or “Newly Added”. Check out the walk-thru demo to see how it works.

Comments (106)Video: AVEC GPS – Time Lapse Camera Demo
greg | September 21, 2009
This demo is pretty cool…
It is Art’s AVEC with a serial connected GPS device and a USB powered PSP Go Cam (PSP-300). Every time the map screen is drawn and saved to a file, a picture from the cam is snapped and saved as well. Cropping and vertically stacking the images then paint the perfect picture above.

Comments (11)Video: Counterbalancing Team Mack’s CFW Claim
greg | September 17, 2009
My man, FreePlay… I’ve been a Team Mack skeptic since the very beginning of their video-making shenanigans, and with good reason; for one, I’ve yet to see the new 6.00 theme colours in any of their videos. Factor that aside; FreePlay drops the devastation bomb on their nonsense by showcasing the finer differences between Sony’s official 6.00 system update and their RCO-crafted one.
Comments (112)[RUMOUR] PSP Custom Firmware 6.00 MAC?
greg | September 12, 2009
This is absolute speculation as far as I’m concerned. Why? Well, where are the new 6.00 theme colours, why not show those real quick in your lengthy video? Why not boot a game that requires 5.55+ or something? That alone would prove more than just showing the same shit twice. Anyway, see for yourself — you are the judge.
Video 1:
Video 2:
And what, “like Criss Angel, what you see is what you get?” He’s a stunt artist / illusionist. Is this purely a stunt or an illusion? You see what I’m saying, right?
Now don’t get me wrong; I’d love a new custom firmware as much as the next guy. So please — prove me/us otherwise.
Comments (212)PSP Firmware 6.00 Decrypted and Analyzed
greg | September 11, 2009
The GEN team has de-crypty-crypted PSP firmware 6.00, analyzed those unencrypted bits and bytes, and has now shared their findings…
Here’s what up –
(Translated by way of Google Translate)
First:
We have therefore launched a program to compare files of 5.50 and 6.00. You see below the result which indicates that all files are different and have been recompiled (normal since the change of key), and you can see the newcomers of firmware 6.00 – Rated Only in (first) – and disappearance compared to 5.50 – Rated Only in (seconds).
For that list; see here.
Second:
The PRX system directory that you were all set to jou(?) and again, there is a change. Note the appearance of PRX following: codec_01g.prx, codec_02g.prx, codepage.prx, libgameupdate.prx, libmp4.prx, mlnbridge_msapp.prx, mp4msv.prx, np_campaign.prx, power_01g.prx, power_02g.prx, umdcache. prx, usb1seg.prx, usbdmb.prx) and disappearance of others codec.prx, idmanager.prx, impose.prx, power.prx, umdcache_02g.prx, usb1seg_02g.prx.
Third (Conclusion):
The first stage of the discovery of 6.00 has therefore been reached and our team of developers will therefore continue its investigations to try to bring us more information about this topic. Note that Dark_Alex said he was not working on 6.00 M33 and that for the moment, no public 6.00 GEN is still expected.
The “no public 6.00 GEN is still expected” throws me off… I’m not sure if that’s an error on Google Translate’s part or what. If anyone is able to provide a better, more accurate translation, please do so in the comments below. Thanks.
Props GEN.
