Comments (2)Mobile Assault v1.01 Released: 3D Helicopter Shooter Updated
greg | February 28, 2010
Formally known as Apollonia comes Codetactics’ Mobile Assault. This is one of those homebrews that will no doubt occupy a good couple of hours here and there… Plenty of missions to select from, including a never-ending instant action mode, weapon & helicopter upgrades using Prestige points, online leaderboards (PSP VS. iPhone), and more…
With respect to the video the gameplay may seem a bit choppy at times; that’s just Remote Joy slowing things down. Mobile Assault is very smooth and responsive. My word.
Mobile Assault is also available for Mac, Windows, Linux and the iPhone. Search for it on the iTunes App Store.
Mobile Assault v1.01:
- PSP support for the tactical support and upgrade menus.
- PSP network connection dialog for leaderboard support.
OpenBOR Mod: Phantasy Star II+IV Demo
greg | February 24, 2010
NickyP in the place to be with an all-new OpenBOR mod. You know his work — MegaMan: The Power War, Maplevania, and there may be others we’ve missed. Anyway, we’re covering this one: Phantasy Star II+IV. It’s a demo.
Phantasy Star II+IV isn’t your traditional side-scrolling beat ‘em up game. The Phantasy Star sprites are a cross between 3rd and 1st person, which introduced a challenge when using the OpenBOR engine. Nevertheless — NickyP pulled it off and the end result is pretty awesome. I was never a fan of Phantasy Star turn-based combat, but this real-time action puts a whole new perspective on things. I recommend you check it out.
OpenBOR for Windows and PSP are included. Extract the archive and copy the “PS2n4(demo).PAK” file to the appropriate “Paks” directory. Enjoy!

WIP: MegaMan 8-bit DeathMatch
greg | February 19, 2010
Tell me this doesn’t look awesome: CutmanMike’s MegaMan 8-bit Deathmatch (MM8BDM) — online! There is no scheduled release date; however, it’s actively being developed and it’s clear great progress has been made thus far.
To quote CutmanMike –
Megaman 8-bit Deathmatch is a new multiplayer mod that aims to puts Doom and Megaman into a blender and spew out a fun new way to blast your buddies online. I’ve always wanted to make a Megaman themed wad, and since my experimental multiplayer wad GVH wasn’t a complete flop, I decided to make it deathmatch based. The 8-bit style inspired by Kinsie was perfect for this, as it represents the time when I feel Megaman was in full fruition: on the NES.
Megaman 8-bit Deathmatch will play as if Megaman suddenly turned 3D. Everything will play as if it was being played back in 1987. Levels will use purely 8-bit textures and sprites. Megaman will jump high and take damage recoil. Weapons will behave almost exactly as they did back then, only from a 3d perspective. The plan is to eventually have all the levels and weapons from Megaman 1-6 (and maybe 9). Obviously some weapons will have minor changes because there are a lot of clones throughout the series.

Comments (2)aPokalySP: A New PSP Homebrew Game
greg | February 17, 2010
Introducing CauX and his well-crafted homebrew game: aPokalySP. This is no doubt one of the better ‘brews for the time and deserves, at least temporarily while you try it out, the 29MB on your memory stick. It’s evident some serious hours have been put into this… 13 levels, 14 rewards to unlock… Check it out:
A little background on the story: The world has changed. Remember when everyone was running wild screaming H1N1 — we’re all gonna die!? Well you could look at it two ways: 1) The vaccine was never created, everyone (99% of the Earth’s population) died, they came back as Zombies; or 2) The vaccine was created but was an epic fail, everyone (99%) died who got it, they came back as Zombies. You hit the lotto being the other 1%. Can you keep it that way?

Comments (21)PSPLife: Game of Life Simulator Released
greg | February 8, 2010
It’s the Game of Life on your PSP… Nah, not Hasbro’s, but that’d be cool too. This is John Conway’s Game of Life, written and released by jojojoris. It’s old school to the max. Like 70’s old school… Some were into pet rocks; others were deep into cellular automaton.

The Rules
For a space that is ‘populated’
- Each cell with one or no neighbours dies, as if by loneliness.
- Each cell with four or more neighbours dies, as if by overpopulation.
- Each cell with two or three neighbours survives.
For a space that is ‘empty’ or ‘unpopulated’
- Each cell with three neighbors becomes populated.

Comments (4)Zock’n Roll v1.01 Released; A New PSP Homebrew Puzzle Game
greg | January 17, 2010
This game is actually pretty fun… It’s well crafted and certain to keep your cerebral cortex in check, my word. Introducing oOnkillerOo’s Zock’n Roll. Strategize, plan, and score — that’s the concept…
You start with 4 random dice; they’ll range from 1-4 in red, green, blue, or yellow. Strategically place each die on the 4×4 board. You’re aiming to create combinations of colours and numbers, which are scored differently depending on the particular combo. All possible combinations and their corresponding score can be found under Options -> Help.
Zock’n Roll also incorporates a competitive online high-scoring system for anyone who enjoys making a name for themselves. Can you beat oOnkillerOo at his own game? Oooh — it’s on!
