Sony to Release PSP Firmware 3.95 Soon… Very Soon!

Posted by greg

Update: So soon, its already happened… Grab 3.95 via Network Update or by following the download link below.

I see a new firmware arising, I see Sony on the way…

Straight from Eric Lempel, Director of PlayStation Network Operations —

PSP Firmware 3.95:

  • While playing PSone games on your PSP, you can now customize how the buttons are assigned by going to [Controller Settings] > [Assign Buttons] and select [Custom].
  • You can now quit Remote Play and choose to turn off your PS3 or leave it on after quitting. This is useful if you are performing a download and want to quit Remote Play, but still want your download to continue on the PS3. Select [Quit and Turn Off the PS3 System] or [Quit Without Turning Off the PS3 System] from [Quit Remote Play] when you press the HOME button on the PSP system.

PSP Firmware 3.93 Released

Posted by greg

Sony PSP firmware 3.93 is now available via Network Update, and of course, we got it below for ya too. The update seemingly isn’t much; quoting John Koller

…users of the PSP Internet Radio feature will find 20 new internet radio players to enjoy. The new players are organized into more specific styles of music so that PSP users can easily find what they are looking for and listen to their favorite genres.

And the usual — expanded support for PLAYSTATION Network titles.

PSP Firmware 3.90 Released

Posted by greg

Sony has released firmware version 3.90. Those sleek Slim owners now have official Skype support; while us Fat lamers, including myself, only get added support for PLAYSTATION®Network titles. So what, big whoop, wanna fight about it?

You can grab 3.90 from us or via Network Update. You may need to disable “M33 Network Update” if you’re running custom firmware 3.80 M33. That’s located under the recovery console.

Stay tuned for more updates. You know the usual routine — firmware is released, later dumped and decrypted, Skype support ripped out… Yadda, yadda, yadda…

Despertar Cementerio (Universal Unbricker) v4 Released

Posted by greg

Your virtual lifeguard is back on duty. Breathe life into your seemingly dead Fat or Slim PSP with Dark_AleX’s own CPR device — Despertar Cementerio. As promised — the Pandora battery method for installing custom firmware 3.80 M33.

Installation, usage, and other concerns are addressed in the readme. I strongly encourage you read that over prior to flashing. You will require the Sony 1.50, 3.40, and 3.80 update EBOOTs. Get those below. As well, if you haven’t already, create a Pandora battery and magic memory stick. Tutorials available in our forumshere, and here, even here. Thanks Demonchild.

Despertar Cementerio v4 changes:

  • Installer now checks if user has a custom theme installed, and ask him to disable it before running the program.
  • The PSN DRM file in flash2 (act.dat) is now backuped during ms creation and restored in the unbrick.
  • Flash2 is now formatted too.
  • Now installs 3.80 M33-5 instead of 3.71 M33-3.

Official PSP Firmware 3.73 Released

Posted by greg

Update: New for 3.73: Operation of the UMD™ drive has been improved to address cases in which the UMD™ drive occasionally suspends and fails to reload data. Updating the system software to version 3.73 will resolve this issue.

Sony has released PSP firmware 3.73 over at the official PlayStation Japan website. It appears only to be a minor update — stay tuned for more details surrounding that. No doubt 3.73 will be available worldwide very soon.

Furthermore, it’s reported _HellDashX_ has decrypted firmware 3.73 already, which doesn’t really surprise me. The known track record: Sony releases a new firmware; said firmware is decrypted hours or even minutes after its release; a day or two later a new custom firmware is available — if it’s worth it. So with that in mind, perhaps we’ll see one shortly.

Stay tuned!

PSP Firmware 3.72 Released

Posted by greg

Update: Oops, forgot to add the download link… Grab it below.

Update: KahnArtizt has confirmed (in the comments) 3.72’s availability via Network Update. I wouldn’t recommend installing it though; by the looks of things, it’s nothing worthwhile.

It would seem Sony has officially released PSP firmware 3.72. Per the moment 3.72 is reportedly available for only Japanese hand helds. I’m unable to confirm whether or not it’s downloadable via Network Update; my PSP is currently at home, and well, I’m not there. Of course the North American side of things remain behind on the update. Check back soon for more details.

Pandora’s Ultimate Magic Stick *Updated*

Posted by greg

Update: Pandora’s Ultimate Magic Stick package is now at v3; download the Phat and Slim version below. Also available is the PUMS guide to help get you started.

Update: Re-download the archive below.

For the lazy folk, like myself, here’s a simple solution to easily accomplish any of the following:

  1. upgrade slims to 3.71-2 M33
  2. upgrade phat to 3.71-2 M33 w/ 1.50-2 kernel patch
  3. downgrade phat to 1.50
  4. upgrade phat straight to 3.52 M33 from Extended Boot Menu then install update 4 no need to downgrade to 1.50
  5. start up PSP with Ultimate Loader with support For choosing which Pandora’s you reach V1 or V3(by hold L trigger)
  6. Boot to XMB (Phat Only)
  7. Boot to a full 1.50 from Mem Stick (Phat Only)
  8. use PSPFiler and other tools (If it requires 1.50 slims can’t)

The release thread (see below) goes further in-depth, providing a complete guide to coincide with the download — you’ll need to scroll down a bit.

PUMS (not to be confused with premenstrual syndrome) Credits:
Founder/Assembler: OverfiendX

PSP Firmware 3.71 Released

Posted by greg

Update: Yep — it’s out alright…

Notice: The [PlayStation Spot] icon that appeared as the result of the version 3.70 system software update is for a service that is not available in this region. This icon does not appear in version 3.71.

3.71 changes:

Network

  • [Assign Buttons] has been added to the (Remote Play) menu.

Video

  • Sequential playback of videos saved on Memory Stick Duo™ media is now supported.

Apparently PSP firmware 3.71 is now available via Network Update. Unfortunately I don’t have my PSP with me to confirm; however, I’ll be heading home shortly to check. If it is — you’ll see it here for download.

According to Eric Lempel over at the official PlayStation.Blog, “In addition, we are adding a new firmware update for PSP (3.71) as well, which adds many features that readers of this blog have requested.”

Hrm… Lets hope it doesn’t circumvent the use of Pandora’s Battery. No one has been requesting that! ;)

Stay tuned!

I wouldn’t recommend upgrading if you wish to keep compatibility with homebrew & custom firmwares.
