5.50 GEN D2-D3 Switcher Released

Don’t call it a comeback. No, for real… Red Squirrel returns from the burrows to drop a quick homebrew app then vanishes into the wilderness, again. The tool is D2-D3 Switcher, which as the name suggests, switches between custom firmware 5.50 GEN-D2 and GEN-D3, real easy like. Load the app; select the appropriate CFW version; exit and do whatever you need to.

It works changing only the peagasus.prx in Flash0. Returning to D2 (using the D2′s peagasus.prx) you can use those savedatas that appear corrupted in D3 or play those games that have issues with D3 (such as Jak and Daxter, Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker, etc…). But remember to come back to D3 when you want to play those modern games that require it.

THIS IS USELESS. CFW 5.00M33-6 HAS NO PROBLEM WHAT SO EVER JUST PLAYING THOSE NEW GAMES, SUCH AS METAL GEAR SOLID PEACE WALKER.
This is a cool app and all but there is another app that fixes the savedata problem in D3 you can find it on this page:

Tried following the steps for fixing corrupt data and it works flawlessly on Slim!
Only if someone could reverse enginer the M33 or if Dark Alex would come back out so we could have a more updated CTW
When switching between d2 and d3 if i check the system setting on my psp its still saying im using 5.50 gen d3 even tho i have selected to switch to d2. Can anyone shed some light on this? also my d3 data appears as corrupt when i select d2 and vice versa, so im assuming u cant play a save game created with d2 on d3? Thanks for your time.

Umm I have problems with D-2 when I went to D-3 I did not need the plugin on phat. Still cool though.
Also I have never seen game corruption on my psp with d-2 to d-3. and I nave dozens of save data from soo many games and I dont recall any corruption. I did how ever when I went from 5.00 m33-6 to gen that was it.
This app does not switch your CFW. All it does is change the CFW’s decrypter to either the GEN-D2 one or the GEN-D3 one.
You will not see a change in the system settings.

Lol, I was just bummed that MGS didn’t work with D3 and this comes out. Very convenient. ;]
What the hell is wrong with people I played mgs with phat 1000 on gen d-3 and It freezes very seldom almost never turn off all your other plugins turn the cpu to 333 something cuz I have played this game for 7 hours on and off and it only froze 3 times and one of them was cuz i had a shit load of plugins on

Did you get an error message?
If you have the KHBBS plugin enabled, the D2-D3 Switcher can not write to Flash0, and you will get an “Error writing new peagasus.prx” message.
The app has effectively deleted your peagasus.prx from flash, and a new one has not been written.
None of your homebrew/ISO will load without peagasus.prx.
You will have to flash a peagasus.prx manually.
To avoid this error, disable the KHBBS plugin before running the switcher.
Neat trick for a squirrel.
Speaking of Peace Walker, just play on ofw 6.2 and then pandora back to your cfw. I have a 1000 phat so its no big deal for me.
Or.. just use m33. and you dont have to worry about using a shitty firmware like gen.

5.50 GEN-D3 was a let down true; however, your pretend butt buddy DaX left the scene without so much as a word to whether or not he would be back. So for the moment, the only team you can expect an actual firmware from is GEN since they seem to be the only ones still trying.
Don’t give me shit like they copied dax. Sure they did, and I am glad they did. Maybe unlike some of you useless complainers, they can actually use the info that they copied to make a CFW for us. Sure it might not be as stable as 5.00 M33-6 or 5.50 GEN-D2, but it will keep not only the scene alive, but keep Sony from getting rid of us.
I tried the 5.50 Gen custom firmwares and didn’t like them… Many apps didn’t run anymore, it gave errors for newer games, and so on. I had to “downgrade” to upgrade back to CFW 5.00 m33-6. With 5.0 m33-6 you just use a simple plug-in and you can play all the newer games, and run all the apps from before.
I would wait until Dark Alex or M33 team would release a CFW 6.20. For now M33-6 is the best.
This works quite well. nice. I went from 5.00 m33-6 to 5.50 gen d-3 some time ago at the moment I dont remember why, what is the main differences most people updated there firmware.
exactly , how can i flash peagasus.prx mannually…..i have the same problem as Godamit
I ended up fixing it by upgrading to D3, then back to D and finally D2 again.
Might add I went through to get D2 again so MGS would work.
Godamit, have fixed it already..??? how?
What plug in is reply 19 referring too? Been thinking about going back to m33 cause of the initial load time on d3(red screen).

2.)extract the file , you will get a folder named peagasus.
3.)turn off your psp and go to recovery menu->advance->toggle flash0(this will then enable psp usb mode)
4.)Open the peagasus folder then open seplugins folder and copy the peagasus.prx
Note:ONLY peagasus.prx!!!!
5.)Paste to flash0:/kd folder and your good to go

IS there any way to still run the genesis emulator on 5.5 gen d?
I’d also add that all CFW’s were basically built off the backs of the previous custom firmwares… all the way back to Humma Kavula’s FastLoader in 2005. Dark Alex wasn’t a ‘god’ in the PSP scene, contrary to the casual observer’s faulty short-term memory.
Back on topic – this is a great little app! Now people can use D3 for most games and then quickly (and easily) switch to D2 (or the Pegasus.prx for D2) to play games like the latest Jak & Daxter. Good job!
Yo the same thing happened to me! I used this app and when I clicked D2, the thing said I was missing a prx or something or other and now I can’t load any games! Even UMDs!! Please help me with this problem… TT,TT

I have tried this numerous times on my psp, but wen i get to the blue screen and choose “switch to d2″ it says “enjoy D2″ and then i cant do anything, it returns to the same screen and just sits there

@mortred, try to use method in reply number 25.) if you experience the “Error:writing peagasus.prx” im sure it would help fix your PSP

Yep, the D2-D3 Switcher it works on MGS:PW… but before i patch the ISO (Clean ISO no patch ISO) with ISO Tool with normal patch procedure not with the Patch Promethus (The Promethus patch didn’t work for me)… and voila, the game goes beyond the 2nd chapter without crashing on loading screen. I hope that help to someone…
*Disable KHBBS plugin that only gives conflict to D2-D3 switcher.
Thank god/hackers! After installing D3 some of my game saves were corrupt and I was gonna start over but this saved me a ton of time. Being able to play MGS is nice too.
What the hell! After have transferred some files on game folder, I don’t know what I did, every time I load some files after the PSP screen appears it turns off automatically. How can I fix this?
help i switch to gen d2 and when i was going to play accel3 i switch to gen d3 but i does not working anymore. anyways i was on gen d3 before using the app.

yes! finally.. thank you KENBRYON! absolutely breath taking…hai.. but still my mgspw is not working.. after the chapter 2 and a movie clip my psp get hang and it suddenly turn off.. do i need to use the d2-d3 switcher? im using d3..

for MGS:PW you should use the switcher…. just disable the KHBBS plugin before doing so.

its works fine on my psp 2000 i just switched to D2 from D3. i had an issues of freezing on chapter 2 now works fine.

Everyone, it works fine. When you switch from d3-d2 using this it won’t change in system settings ” It will still be 5.50 Gen-D3 but it will have the same d2 effect and metal gear solid will work.

when I switch to D2, the save I made on D3 can’t be loaded.. then I tried switch back to D3, the save loads fine so the save isn’t corrupted..

Hey guys, i had MGS peace walker work perfectly fine on my PSP with no problems until one day when i woke up and went to play it. It gets stuck on the first loading screen (with the peace walker symbol at the bottom right) and i dont know why it suddenly stopped. I did not change anything at all.
I have tried the program listed on this page and it loads but then stays a black screen forever until i turn off my PSP. When i do turn off my PSP i find the power light flashes too. Can somebody assist me? I am so confused. Thanks in advance
