Half Byte Loader Rev. 85 Stable & Recommended

It’s the recommended stable release if you’re a user and you don’t wish to report any bugs. But if you do want to contribute and help improve Half Byte Loader, then grab the development version from the source and read this. Otherwise enjoy all the homebrew and emulators to your heart’s content.
Instructions:
- Install the Patapon 2 Demo
- Connect PSP with USB
- Copy the “hbl” directory and the “h.bin” file to ms0: (copy them to the root)
- Copy UCUS98732_DATA02 (Patapon 2 SAVEDATA) to ms0:/PSP/SAVEDATA
- Copy your homebrew to ms0:/PSP/GAME
- Load the demo, load the hacked save, load your homebrew.

I would love to see it run Plugins, but I doubt it ever will. After all, Plugins do not run from a game, and the PSP thinks HBL is Patapon 2.
Btw, pitty we can mute that gay Patapon music!!Drives me mad I tell you. Nice you picked Shadow of he Beast, shame the megadrive has BS music compared to the amiga version….

8TH!!!!!!!!!!!!! I win. So, back on topic, It would be very nice to see the scene come back. I remember when the phat PSP was still on 1.0 and we had to use Wipeout to browse the web, back when the scene was actually together and not stealing any work and everybody lived in harmony.

What is the name of the game tested in the video?
I have tried several homebrew games and any did work. I get in the Homebrew Loader menu, and when i chose a homebrew, a screen saying “Looping HBL Thread” appears and the PSP Go just shuts down.
Help?
WT* when ever i go pick an app…and starts saying LOPPING HBL THRED it freezes and turn off my psp =.=… i did what it says by the ways the fils beeing put in the ro0t done!

Ya, exacly… The same happens to me. I have tried 15 different homebrews. With some of them the “Looping HBL Thread” thing happens and turns my PSP off, and other times the Loader just disappears and the XMB screen comes.
Does someone have a link to a homebrew which is tested and works with this Half Byte Loader?

i try all the version of hbl loaders but it crashes when i push the R butten in the game can sombody give a full pack that you just need to extrakt in the root

Okay mate. Here it is.
1. Download this file –>>

2. Just extract it to the root of your memory stick.
3. See the compatibility list for v83 here (I think that the homebrew from this list will work on v85, too) –>> http://advancedpsp.tk/foro_es/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=425
4. Copy your homebrew to ms0:/PSP/GAME
5. Load the demo, load the hacked save, load your homebrew.
It’s so simple and it’s working! Wish you luck.
Psp go users make sure you install to the internal memory, not a memory stick. Will not work off of memory stick. Took me awhile to figure this out :)
Note: HBL will most likely never run ISO’s. A CFW cannot be made out of this unless a kernel vulnerability is found. Plugins are extremely unlikely, but might be possible. Also, homebrew that use network modules are not working as well, but may work eventually.
homebrew that use .prx files should be on the horizon from what I’ve seen, so when that happens stuff like gpSP-J should work (I’ve managed to get an error screen from it by removing the .prx’s, so hold tight on that). Thanks to all the developers and to all the people who were willing to test when HBL barely could run anything :)
Now compatible emu’s for me are (all tested are 100% compatible):
mh gpsp kai v3.2 test 04 (supports up to 14mb roms, it can load 16mb, but at the risk of bugs, i personally had a problem where pokemon would not work for me anymore, even after reinstallation. Stick with <14mb roms).
nesterJ V1.10 (no problems at all)
Homer's RIN v3.2: No problems
Picodrive v1.51 (perfect, but no sound)
Also there is a rumor going around that if you load netfront beta 4 and return to the xmb after it crashes, the normal internet browser gains the benefits of it (32-64MB usable RAM). I'm off to test it, I may report back on this.
Can you send me a link to where i can download the gpsp kai 3.2? I have downloaded one, which i thought was the right one, but i does not work.
Check the compatability list on advancedpsp.tk. Just go there click on the PSP forum, then click on Homebrew, then click on Half Byte Loader. You should see a sticky thread called “Compatible Homebrew”. Click on this and scroll down to where it says 6.20, then press the “show” button. it should have a download link for it there. I’d love to give a direct link, but the Wii Opera Browser is pretty shitty.
Also make sure you have a gba_bios.bin in the same folder as the eboot. It should be 16kb big.
I just wanted to thank you guys for keeping this up on the front page. HBL is doing a great job and so are you guys.
where do you put the homebrew? do you use the eboot or the game’s folder? and are you supposed to put the eboot (homebrew) in the root?

hii can some one pls report to the developers of HBL to enable wifi support for next releases of HBl,,
when we use this loader it does not start net module, means wifi mode doesnot work for the homebrew loaded by this HBL

The n64 emu doesnt work for me running PSP 3003 on 6.20, returns hbl thread looping or something like that. Tried all versions and even the DaedalusX64 Beta 2 Update. Maybe in future releases hopefully

FOR THOSE OF YOU HAVING A PROBLEM GETTING IT TO WORK JUST DOWNLOAD HBL AND SAVEDATA FROM WOLOLO’S SITE INSTEAD. IT CONTAINS A README (ITS NOT SOCKET SCIENCE). THERE IS A HOMEBREW COMPATIBILIT LINK ON COMMENT 15 AND 17. ITS VERY ACCURATE. I’M ON FIRMWARE 6.20 AND AS IT SAID ONLY BOOKR WORKS. MORE COMPATIBILITY SOON.

Ok listen, I have done everything I was told to do and everytime I push X to load my NesterJ it goes back to the XMB. I have put everything where it says to. I have a PSP OFW 6.20 and my Model is a 2000 series. Can someone please explain what I am doing wrong? and yes I’m a noob.

well no. But I put everything where its suppose to go. I put the patapon2 demo in Games. Put the Save in SAVDATA. Put hbl folder and h.bin in the root. Put my NesterJ in Games. And its not working. Everything I push X to load NesterJ it goes back to the XMB
Tested this with some of the homebrew on the compatibility list on a PSP 1000, 2000, and 3000, all with OFW 6.20 and they work! I didn’t try it on a Go though because I don’t know anyone with one. I’m gonna donate to wololo because this is great and Wagic is the best!!

HEy guys, I’m not sure if this will sound silly or not, but to everyone saying there will be no ISO/CSO support. What if someone figured out a way to support downloadable game content? For example the games that are downloaded from the Playstation network. Maybe there could be a loader of some sort similar to the old ISO/CSO loader. Yes, I know once you download a game from the network it comes with a license and all that good stuff and the console has to be activated, but I’m sure there is someone good enough out there to bypass this stuff. I mean I’m just throwing ideas out there, no need for smart comments or anything immature!
ISO/CSO support zzwill follow right after someone find an exploit with kernel access. With this exploit[user mode exploit] is impossible!

I got into the nintendo ds emulator when I Rudar HLB the screen goes black after I click the X and appears DSONPSP CONFIG settings and I do rarrego START ee emulator quits and go home and i put the dsnrom in the past NDSROM

Well I have tried a couple emulators and the only one that I can get to work is picodrive, I tried nesterj and gpsp and neither worked on my pspgo ofw 6.20
Any suggestions?

Hi everybody. I have a psp 3004 with OFW 5.50 running on it. I’ve tried lots of different online sources to download PATAPON 2 DEMO and EXPLOIT(save data), but non of them has worked by now. Every time I push the R Botton, the screen just flashs and after a while goes black and turns off. By the way, I’ve tried comment No.17 but that didn’t work too. Now what should I do?

I’ve been putting custom firmware on my psp’s for years, and I can’t get this to work on my Psp go. I follow post 17 word for word, but every time I press the R button, it freezes then shuts off. I have found zero help for this problem on the internet. Anyone have a solution? The number of elitist a-holes in the psp homebrew scene in overwhelming.

The only bad thing is that it runs a bit slowly.
To anyone trying this with a psp go, make sure you put it on your INTERNAL memory, not a memory stick. WILL NOT WORK OFF OF MEMORY STICK.
half byte loader is a usr mode expolite. and really its still very good for your emus and alot of homebrew. plugins and so on need kernel mode or a cfw. same for backups and so on. alot of people are running around calling him anti iso etc its just not possible for this expolite to do it. and yes it is bringing the homebrew scene back to live. you gotta rember most of us psp hackers/coders moved on the the iphone after the cfw scene collapsed on its-self.
If kernel exploit does come I hope noone tries to pirate anything(impossible).
the scene died when dark alex left if team gen really wanted to carry the work on we would have newer custom firmware witch would work 4 all games not this bullshit patching that dont work for all games and we would have psp camera support
