Another “Hello World” Save Game Exploit for Firmware 6.20

greg | March 19, 2010

This save game [user mode] exploit you’re about to watch is as real as it gets… I’ve been fortunate enough to try a few different exploits and I can tell you they’re no doubt legit. None however, as far as I know, have led to kernel mode access, which means no chance for custom firmware or downgrading — not yet anyway.

There you have it; another save game exploit courtesy of maku. The game demo remains unknown [to me] at this time. Feel free to speculate unless you have firm evidence to back your claim up.

Now that’s all fine and dandy, but really, what I am wondering is: what’s taking Sony so long? Look at pspjoke’s save game exploit for example; he said he’d release said exploit once Sony patches it. Well it’s been ~ 6 weeks now and still no patch. That sure wasn’t the case with this one. Sony patched it almost immediately with the release of 6.20. So now you have to wonder, what’s Sony up to? Are they prepping for a bigger and better update that’ll not only patch these holes but also add some much-needed awesomeness to the handheld? Perhaps… Anyway, whatever the case, take this post as a reminder: do not upgrade should Sony issue a new firmware update anytime soon. Stay at 6.20 or earlier if you can, unless of course you don’t care to hack your PSP.

FIRST! Yea, until this leads to new Firmware I could care less.

  2. sonypsp go die says:

i see but idiotic sony may patch it. i have a psp 2006 not ta088v3 and im waiting for the hack.
SONY stops us from hacking psp.fvck it

  3. el chacmool says:

well time to download all the demos from the JP store XD

  4. Taron Smalls says:

greg your late again… your slipping

  5. Rey says:

Nice try in 6.20… if some create like chickhen in 6.20 to run homebrew… no problem to downgrade or upgrade… id like to study the code they put on tiff in pictures… but no one talk about it in the net or forum…

    • dcoke says:

if you search around a bit I believe this site alone has all said files look under the downloads section. I believe the authors of chicken hen released the code for it, and I effeminately know the tiff code is also on this site, but can’t remember what it’s called. My advice select all downloads, and then ctrl+f (or command+F) and put tiff in the query.

make a modchip make a new cfw whatever but this is just old useless stuff. the scene is being bottelnecked by this stuff. its simple we need to chip the go and 3000 models pandora does not work. 5x cfw is useless for psn and many games to play without bugs. when will the psp scene revive itsself or did everyone relly depend on da so much its just going to die a slow death.

  7. sdasdfsdf says:

They need to allow homebrew and just make iso loading impossible.

    • That doesn’t sound like a good plan to me. Agreed, it would be smart to do this on Sony’s part and they’d just act innocent when Nintendo complains about the emulators, but from a PSP user’s standpoint, it’s better to go to the trouble of finding a hack that allows for emulators AND isos.

  8. MS25 says:

Why Japenese? That vid was pointless

  9. Luciddreamer says:

i think the scene has come to a complete halt, we’re not making new cfw because there’s no good features yet, sony’s not making a firmware because there’s nothing homebrew made to fix yet or there’s just nuthing new to add to the psp that they can think of. So now whats it gunna take to push this scene into breaking out sumthing new?

    • dcoke says:

with the loss of our leader moral has been down, it’s sad but i must agree with you’re comment.

    • eddib says:

how about native divx and/or xvid support

    • Let’s face it, Dark_Alex is not going to make m33 for the go. Our only hope at this point of an independent CFW for the later handhelds is (I hate to say it) Yoshihiro’s GEN. And aparantly, it’s going to have to leak in by means of one of these save game exploits or a .png exploit…

  10. dcmodder says:

this must be like the blair witch project for sony to watch. :-P

  11. dog says:

There is at least 3 other user mode exploits like this for 6.2 that i can think of and nothing has come of them yet, the more the better i spose but dont hold your breath …..

  12. teek says:

Please stop with the exploit videos, nobody cares about these anymore. They’ve all been burnt too much to care anymore about exploits. All the PSP news sites should be like: Oh, so you made a new video of an exploit? No, we don’t care. How about you give us a video tutorial of your exploit leading to a CFW, as well as the files necessary to follow along. Then we’ll post it.

    kthx

  13. Lance Meck says:

i have both . 1 pspphat for homebrew and 1 pspgo. i think we are screwed no matter what. im happy for what was done and will always be greatfull, but they just need to release the touch screen psp2.

  14. luther349 says:

the scenes burning out because the pirates are so desperate to hack the go and 3000 models rather then keep the 2000 and below up2date. and please dont ever use team gens lame excuse for not being able to do a 6x cfw. thers 2 main features 6x brings. plays all games psn works. 5x is lacking that without issues on new games and forget psn working. they might hack it for a week then its dead again. if you can chip a 1000 and we did we can chip a go. granted it is a tight fit but it can be done.

  15. You know, I’m getting tired with all this.
I’m stuck on 6.20 for like 3 months now, and all I see is fake or non-released exploits…
Just do something with them, or don’t post those stupid videos…

  16. >N@T3 says:

^ agreed. i have my 5.03 3000 hacked and i thank gen for what they have done but come on thi is liek the 3rd exploit and i havent seen anything come from it. i now this stuff takes time and i may come off as ignorant, i thank u guys for notifying us that something has been found but at the same time i’d like to see more than and exploit with nothing else

    • luther349 says:

there excuse was 6x brakes homebrew yea and so does every major frimware release. the homebrew devs of course just upgrade to the changes. and it gives us a good idea of what homrbrew is dead and whats still active. also most times when the devs brakes open his code he does a bit more then patching. normally miner bug fixes and speed boost. of course to me its just admitting they cant do it and make excuses. they last da frimware was 5.50 that da and gen worked on and gen took all the credit pissing off da and him leaving and look what frimware we are still using. as for this video i have no clue why it was posted at all they said they where going to stop doing this unless there was a real release.

  17. jerjer says:

fuck! why did you cover the screen?!?! =D i dont believe in this exploit..non sense..

    • dog says:

the screen is covered to hide his mac address then the camera moved to the power light so you cant see what demo they load.

I belive in this exploit! just like i belive in the other recent exploits.

Plenty of devs working on recent and old exploits and we still havnt got a HEN yet.

I doubt they will be able o find a kernal exploit if they do, and even if they do is GEN good enough, or are they interested in makeing a new CFW?

Then after all that you gotta ask yourself do you care? we have been round the block now the psp is old hat, even with my psp 1000 fully hacked all it does it collect dust

  18. Rey says:

    thnks…”dcoke”…
this is the battle of sony and hackers…
    make it noted:
    if someone exploit… to hacks a firmware…
make sure you give them them the file or the code… so that some hackers have the idea for its succsess… (it is useless to post a video like this… hiding…)

  19. cybertooth says:

is there any way of hacking a psp through .ptf psp themes??

  20. PurpleHaze420 says:

I’ve now officially given up on the PSP, the time was fun, but i’ve moved on. Having owned 5 PSP’s since the original release it’s with a heavy heart althouh the iPhone is where it is now. ;)

  21. msparky83 says:

I know what game it is. Everyone should have played this particular demo by now ~_^

    • dog says:

why should we of played it? i havnt played any demos. I doubt you do know rather you are guessing

    • xfri says:

      What a joke.

      • Msparky83 says:

Ok, i’ll give you the fact that I was very vague about my last posting. I actually do know what japanese psp demo this exploit relates to. Believe it or not, quite a few other members have already discovered said demo as it is available for download on the internet. No, I will not state said name od demo on here as that was never my intention. I like others (and like some of you should), have so much respect for the devs that create these little gems. (whether or not they are ever released) I WILL say that finding out what the demo is, is not that difficult of a task….all you need do is look closely at the video posted and match the screen with said demo, and bingo!

In this regard, it was not hard to find the demo for myself. However, since i’m not as l337 as Mamosuke, Maku, and Wololo are I currently have no use for said demo. I am interested in learning how the process of finding an exploit is carried out, and as a result want to recreate the exploit. (as i’m sure a lot of you do as well) I’m not going to sit here and beg for any of the binary coding or anything else of that nature, though I will admit it would be awesome and a great learning experience to be able to follow in thier footsteps. I will continue to monitor its progress, and I hope that in the end there will be a released product for the community as a whole. I do think that a lot of people on this, and many other forums need to be more respectful of the devs who go out of their way to create something that benefits all of us in the psp community as a whole and stop whining about when, or if it will come out. Also the trolling and the flamming is just rediculous. If you do decide looking for me on Maxconsole, QJ.net, and others that I will not mention, do NOT pm me asking for the name, as I will not release that infomation. Cheers, and have a nice day.

        • DiGi-C says:

That was way too easy and im dead on falling off my seat through lack of sleep! Any n00b should be able to figure it that out now…

  22. Msparky83 says:

I have updated information about my last post of which I have posted in Maxconsole’s forums. However, for those who do not wish to look, or are to lazy…I have posted a video of my proof. Again, DO NOT ask for info as I will not give it. Enjoy ^_^

    • mrdoo says:

ummm well done you have demo that can CRASH, not an exploit! The artical is about someone finding a CRASH and running unsigned code = EXPLOIT

Even then there is a lengthy process to get a bin loader working then any kind of HEN/HB loader plus a kernal exploit will need to be found to have any fun. By fun i mean possibly CFW but thats only if GEN are good enough/can be bothered.

But no one has said if they are going to release it anyway.

So the fact you have the game really is nothing exciting especialy at this stage

  23. Joseph Reyes says:

when will the hack will be release? i hav psp 3000 ofw 6.20, almost 3 months been waiting and still my psp on its box.

  24. [...] this time: it’s a demo. A freely distributable demo — it can be downloaded anywhere. Same demo? No clue. But we’ll be testing it shortly and we’ll keep you [...]
