PSPMame r0.6 and Jum52 v1.1 Released; MAME & Atari 5200 Emulator

greg | March 3, 2010

Nothing you haven’t seen before… But it is what it is—two emulators updated fresh from two PSP homebrew developers. TMK continues on improving PSPMame, while Jum, a newcomer to PSP-Hacks, releases Jum52.

PSPMame is the Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator… All those Capcom, SEGA, SNK, Technos, Tecmo, Konami, Namco classics you played at your local arcade are now available on your PSP. Green visor dime-bag dealing dude not included.

Lastly, Jum52… Released in 1982 and still in the house: the Atari 5200. This short-lived bad boy came after the Atari 2600 and before the 7800. So experience it for the first time or relive the joy that was the Atari 5200.

PSPMame r0.6:

  • Reintroduced the sound
  • Other general improvements

Jum52 v1.1:

  • Key remapping added
  • 3x and 4x scaling added
  • Rom file selector reverted to cross-platform version.
  • Fixes to exiting by clicking Window’s [X] button.

I wish the Atari played all the Atari numbers 7800 etc but sweet

  2. nikescar says:

Any idea where to find a compatibility list for PSPMame? I’ve looked around but couldn’t find anything.

  3. live says:

does MAME play turtles in time? i doubt it =/

  4. headsupkid01 says:

Where does it go? It says corrupted data

  5. Mavrick says:

What no noobs demanding people work on CFW 6.xx instead of making emulators because they just need it for their kids psp so they dont break the games?

  6. Reese Kaine says:

PSPMAME: Do I need to make folders for each game, or do I need to make a folder for the ZIPped packages?

  7. FtJ says:

The downloaded RAR has a folder for each company. You move that folder into your GAME folder (example: X:\PSP\GAME\NAMCO\)

ROMs go into a folder labeled ROMs that go in said folder.

    ((example: X:\PSP\GAME\NAMCO\ROMS\pac-man.zip)

  8. headsupkid01 says:

So we have to have like ten mames on the XMB?

  9. kral oyun says:

I like atari games, thank you ;)

  10. danc says:

PSP Mame4All is still the best. The idea of a bunch of MAME folders for each manufacturer is kinda messy. The very last time this emu was posted I read that all the roms can go into a folder at the root (DriveLetter:/roms/game.zip) and each manufacturer emu can all share the common “roms” folder. anyway, the only advantage to this Mame Emu system is the fact you can play a gem like Jungle Hunt…for some reason it dont work with Mame4All.
Also, I guess the best advantage over Mame4All is playing Pac Man Plus with the X2 speed option.
Mame4All is probably my favorite homebrew emu (next to PSPUAE).
But Super Pac Man or Pac And Pal still don’t work for either emulator, which sucks.

Thanks for the attempt in a better PSPMame!

–Finally getting some return on spending a shit load of quarters back in the day..

    • bob says:

So you can only have Roms that are in the description file?

      lame

      • Danc says:

        ?
        Description file?

That’s just the problem: there IS no reliable list of working games…Even if its in the list provided when you start the emu…does not mean it will work.
Why a non working rom is in the provided list is confusing.

I think Lame4All actually did provide a readme list of working roms..

heh – just kidding. i just wanted to type ‘Lame4All’

  11. Danc says:

Okay, I confirmed you do need a roms folder in EACH manufacturer folder (would have been nice if it was already there to save confusion)
    So: X:/PSP/Game/Namco/Roms/game.zip
    etc..

My bad– Super Pac Man does work! Also, a few others like Contra, Yie Ar Kung Fu, Frogger now work! Thank you very much!

The only complaint is you cannot seem to change games once the emulator runs…Unless I am missing something, you cannot return to the game list once you have launched a game. :(

  12. Dan says:

Im on 5.50 Gen-D lastest I cant get any roms to start. My file structure is X:/PSP/Game/Namco/Roms/game.zip
tried naming the folder roms ROMS Roms the game wont load just goes back the game menu. Any suggestions???

    • Dan says:

Nevermind have the roms listed dont work and the ones that do work run slow as hell. Ill just stay with mame4all thats the best one out anyway.

      • Danc says:

Yeah, pretty much. I was happy to see a couple (and I mean ONE or TWO) that don’t work for Mame4All work with this version, but after all is said and done it only amounts to about 10 or less games total…And it took all day to figure out which ones.

Contra runs slow and so do others, includng Super Pac.
I was happy about Moon Patrol and a few others that run fine, so I still appreciate the effort put forward on this project.
Unfortunately there are bugs, I was rarely able (if at all) to exit the emu without crashing the PSP.

        [PSP1000 Phat: M33 5.0 -6]

The ‘Taito2′ folder is complete scrap, seems like most of the roms it lists are all late eighties or newer and over 2 mb and that means they do not work. I spent alot of time aquiring roms for taito2 and none worked.

I just don’t know why games provided in the list wouldn’t work, it was still just as much trial and error as if no list was provided at all. If the screen goes black and returns to the game list- it dosent work.
I guess I have put enough time in this I could provide a list of those that DO work…But this might be diffrent for a Slim or PSPs with more internal RAM.

So Yeah, Mame4All is still all around the way to go…I have about 221 roms that work.

        Long live arcade games.
Long live pushng ‘select’ instead of inserting quarters!

        :)

        Thanks!

  13. Danc says:

i think my medication is wearing off

  14. X-bomber says:

All Of the MAME ROMS did`nt work Please help me!

    • Bearmon says:

      X-bomber,

use Mame4All because it has higher compabilities and better speed tha PSPMame r0.6 anyway.

      • Danc says:

        Word.

X-bomber: you actually have to download the ROMS the list provided refers to…just because you see it on the list when you launch the emu doesnt mean its actually there yet. but yeah, go with Mame4All anyway…just aquire the rom, leave it as an archive, and drop into the roms folder, you’ll then see it..push square twice [MAME4ALL]

To get this MAMEr0.6 to work, you have to create a “roms” folder and put it in each manufacturer folder. again, just drop the whole archived rom into the “roms” folder and you should be able to launch that game from the list. again: you have to aquire the rom first, the list exists either way.
thats kinda what were typing about – not all the roms work anyway, the list lies.

        hope that helps
        goo luck
