More Save Game Exploitable Fun

greg | February 15, 2010

Again and again… Over and over… Can’t stop, won’t stop… Another possible save game exploit has been found. This time ’round Mamosuke is the name, and unnamed is the game. For the moment full control of the return address is just out of reach; only half the value can be overwritten right now. It’s suggested by way of lan.st that the string is converted to unicode (it’s a JP region game) and that’s the key.

Bear in mind: these past couple of save game exploits will not serve the average Joe any real purpose. The game titles remain unknown to the general public for a reason, mostly to prevent Sony from immediately patching it. Depending on the nature of the exploit it may potentially pave the way to homebrew and other radness on your PSP. Be patient and let the professionals do their thing. Just don’t update your PSP should Sony issue a new firmware update anytime soon, which I have a feeling is coming.

Finally some more exploits. Way to go team! I can’t wait till CFW 6.20.

My gratitude goes out to all those working on exploits.

  2. Mac2468 says:

    Hahaha, awesome.

  3. khast says:

It seemed only inevitable that there was going to be another exploit found. The thing about “security” the more people they have hacking away at it, the more likely someone is going to find something.

  4. Sora says:

What is this, the third exploit in the past week? You’re losing your touch, Sony.

  5. The Hack says:

as hard as sony tries to patch and beat the psp hacking community they can never pul it off
    sony may have smarts
    but we have hacking smarts

  6. so0ra says:

so… when do we expecting a possible “CFW 6.20″, 2012? is it going to b released to d public? i hope it wouldn’t end up like Freeplay exploit, saying he wouldn’t release his “exploit” but eventually he release his useless exploit. btw, wut happened to cfw 6.20mad? i thought that was a joke, & d real deal is about 2 b released.

  7. doga says:

Nice,, this will haze things over more and take the pressure off the 1st and 2nd save game exploit found recently.

Doesnt anyone else thing its very odd that 3 have been found in such a short space of time considering how long we had to wait…?

  8. Chuntwurzle says:

Cue a round of facepalms at Sony!

    Hahaha

  9. CyberX says:

Are this game saves ,o “road” to create a Custom Firmware 6.20? and if so, when will a method for downgrading from an official 6.20 firmware WITHOUT Pandora battery and magic card ?

    • Decius says:

There will be no need for a downgrader on all PSPgo’s because they can’t go (no pun) past 6.xx firmware,

Just like the 2k’s can’t go past a certain point because modules in the CFW aren’t there in the previous versions, With a release of an EXploit you won’t need to pandora…

Not that you could anyways ever since 2k -088v3′s

  10. DEADBEEF says:

    hah deadbeef

  11. xfri says:

all hackers out there just help each other for fast making of cfw.

  12. drkdude says:

haha..sony really is keeping their eyes on this site!

a very easy job for them to patch any holes..

  13. psp joker says:

    whats is thiz for?

  14. pspowner14 says:

great exploit found! i know this might be a stupid question but i own a psp 3000. i’m worried that when i downgrade my psp from 6.20 to 5.03 gen-c it will brick. i think that because 6.20 has different set up that 5.03. thats why i think my psp will brick. if it is a stupid question, tell me. i hacked my psp before so i’m not a noob and i got fed up with my psp rebooting on cfw so i upgraded. two days later sedna came out and i was pissed so now i’m trying to downgrade again. tell me if it will brick. thx

  15. pspowner.user14 says:

i’m wondering if my psp 3000 will brick if i downgrade 6.20 with this exploit to 5.03 gen. i know 6.20 has a different set up so i’m worried. i’m not a noob i’ve hacked my psp and mad my own homebrew. plz tell me if it will brick. p.s. ur probaly wondering why i update? my psp kept on rebooting so it got fed up and updated. not two days after i updated sedna came out. now i’m pissed and want to have cfw. plz post a response.

    • IMADV8 says:

Maybe you should wait until some method to downgrade is released before you start worrying about whether you should downgrade.

  16. luther349 says:

bricking can happen on any cfw. my 5.50 bricked for no reason the other day. of course i just used my Pandora and restored it. even if they do get a cfw on 3000 and up i would never fell safe using it. i never modded my psp untill pandora. you never know when you need a undo or restore. the only true hack will be when some hardware hackers move away from game saves and find another pandora method. not the battery of course on a go the best solution would be a firmware modchip. we did it with the 1000 i shure as hell can bet we can do it on the 3000 and go.

    • luther349 says:

no expolite is free anyways game saves need the game and Pandora need a battery. just a bit more on know how on wiring the chip inside.

  17. zer0 says:

Lol sony must be shitting bricks right now.

  18. kyorly says:

brick mine about 100 times and it’s still alive. Good thing my psp is 2k.
Why don’t all psp hackers make a team like the gen team? why did dark-alex retired…….
    oh brother……

  19. koolken says:

Sony will parish in the burning sun

  20. ____angel____ says:

……our you all missing the plot???

You think the guys from Sony don’t read shit like this?
So they see some “hacker” posting a save game exploit without actually naming the game.

You think they won’t have the thought to do their own testing to try and re-create the same exploit to find out which game it is???

I think the cost to them is high enough that they’ve got 10 guys sat in a room testing this out all day to check the code….

So what’s going to happen when an exploit with game title gets released and they’ve already patched it.

All the fools with a PSP3000 or Go decide to download the game and Sony are quids in….

    Fools….all fools.

Post the possible games and get them downloaded now. Worst case is your $90 / £90 out of pocket for buying 3 games that it could be but the high being you’ll have the advantage.

    • mrdoo says:

why cant psp 3000 owners wait until the said game is public? They can buy a umd from the shop and exploit the game. I feel sory for the go owners but to be honest i dont think a save game exploit is what will be needed to exploit the go.

    • Decius says:

You’d think the developers would have people sit in a room trying to find exploits, but when it comes to reality a lot of these exploits are found by kids and not by working Developers who develop for the portable it self.

Sony doesn’t make that big of a profit and since like what last quarter? It’s *JUST* reporting to of made profits, You can’t tell me they work this stuff out during the time of this release, It’s almost near impossible to find the same way someone exploited their PSN game let alone to find the game it is.

On top of that Sony Doesn’t even release these games as they are from 3rd party developers. They will investigate the exploit once its release to make a patch, If this was such a big cause they would of already patched the several exploits made thus far. To me I find the “kids” who do this kind of work know more about the console it self than Sony does.

Don’t assume anything about what goes on at Sony, Just because its a big brand name doesn’t mean they have the upmost security in things like this, I mean look at firmwares ever since 1.50 (1.00 for that matter).

They won’t patch it before a release, Good luck on Sony’s part, ever count the games in PSN network? Gl..

  21. ropspdev says:

What program did he used to see that informations?

  22. MS25 says:

All these save game exploits and still no major progress on any, dont get me wrong I appreciate all the work and time spent on them, I’m just wondering whats taking so long…

  23. wak says:

these exploits are only user mode exploits so far

for the CFW that you so desperately , erm, need? they need a VSH exploit, or something like that, learn to read the forum, and be patient.

in my personal opinion (ive only had a psp for a year) the psp is shit, the games are badly made, often shipped out to some company we’ve never heard of, and maybe never will again, so that the core programmers can continue on the next gen machines. the only thing it has going for it is the homebrew / emulators. which all work perfectly on old CFW, meaning there is no need for new FW.

this is why i think comments should be disabled 35 comments, and maybe 3 of them vaguely useful. the rest are like ‘a new exploit, that must mean the cfw is only a week away’, ‘when is it done’

as for what game, fuck just buy everything from the store then you’re covered ;)
if that answer doesn’t satisfy, go forth and multiply…or do it yourself

    • GDofWR420 says:

maybe its just me but i thought the psp was pretty bad ass, though i get what your saying about the line of games that have come out most suck ass and are not worth buying. but i also have to say as far as everything else it cant be beat i mean what other handheld will let you play old school PSX titles. that alone was what made me want one, not to mention mp3, wav, mp4 ,and a massive online library of homebrew. and as for new custom firmware yea i would like to have it cause with old cfw you cant access playstation network.

      • wak says:

very true mate, thats all i use mine for these days, so i agree, its not all bad, shame nobody makes good games for it

if only it had a good dpad (im on a 1000) it would be useful for all my psx shmups, but, unfortunately the 1000 has the worst dpad known to man, and will not do diagonals

shame, as it had potential, but every version has been ruined by some element sony added in / removed

        • GDofWR420 says:

did not know the 1000 had no diagonal. course i didnt have one very long then got a god of war addition and i love it but i think i might trade it for an xbox 360 im not sure. any suggestions?

          • ManOfSkate says:

I think you should definitely trade your PSP for a 360. Personally I believe PS3 to be better though if you come across that option.

  24. GDofWR420 says:

just wondering does anyone know how they find these exploits? I get from the title of the post that its not really the game its the save data. i also get that the game has to run on 6.20 firmware for the exploit to do any good(good being new cfw i hope). just trying to enlighten myself any info or comments are appreciated.

    • mrd says:

      they go looking for them,

some savegame crash’s are found by entering a very long name (sometimes a name with a crazy amount of ‘A’s’ at the end. If they are lucky the PSP will crash due to a buffer overun or something like that, in any case this doesnt always lead to an exploit only if the code can be manipulated to run code (user mode exploit). From this stage on sometimes a kernal exploit can be found so we can run iso’s and load CFW etc.

I may not of got all that bang on but thats something like

      • GDofWR420 says:

whats a savegame crash? is it the save data trying to be loaded and the psp crashes and creates some kind of error report or what?

  25. Freezell says:

IF everyone is talking about a “SAVE GAME” exploit, why do we need the game? and how come you can’t just put the game on the PSPGo, and run the save, just like you do when you download games off of the PSN. I DON’T KNOW anything about hacking, its just a simple question. I think?

    • inuyasha555 says:

You still don’t get the game for free, it costs money.

You need some copy of the game in any way and a save game to modify.

  26. DarkViper says:

If you find a cfw called 6.20 m33-2, please don’t d/l it because it’s fake.

Now, for the same game exploits. It’s probably not impossible to run a down-grader from it right, it’s just hard to do right now!

    • Violent-K says:

If you mean save game exploits that are available, if can’t be done right now in terms of a down-grader such as to ofw 5.03 for psp 3000. However it will come eventually.

    Test if working!
