PSP Firmware 6.20 Exploit? Works on all PSP Models!?

greg | December 26, 2009

Say it ain’t so… Watch this:

Could it be? I guess we’ll find out in the next day or two. There’s no doubt that is indeed firmware 6.20… But, I’m a skeptic with good reason. My bet: it’s just a silly image with a black background and green “Hello World” text. Please, oh please — prove me wrong. File this under pure PSP speculation for now.

I knew as soon as i saw the nick(apodo) Alex that somebody had to imediatley bring DAX into it i doubt it’s DAX. DAX wouldn’t put up a hellow world exploit. That man would exploit the system then hack it then create a fully operational CFW. He would never do just an exploit espacialy on that seems totaly fake.

Can’t believe you guys are throwing this off as a fake. There’s no proof that it is real, and none that it is fake.

As for the lighting, if you check right before the light change (0:03) you will see that it says Hello world.

No dumbass, the lighting of the ROOM changes, not just the screen. Look at the outside edges of the video when it happens.

2009-12-26 22:25:14

It does look like the start of an exploit, but it also could be easily faked.

He could have started a song in the music folder (with an artificial delay inserted at the start of it), pressed HOME and then went to the picture folder and opened the image with practiced timing.

So far, this looks like this will be the exact same bullshit fest Team MACK started.

idiot. that’s the foto’s date and time of creation.

now, fake or real?
the only thing about this video that doesn’t make sense to me is that he’s starting something from the foto menu and not the game menu. so it must be a simple jpg with some other background music.

2009-12-26 23:39:39

I have to agree that it’s likely a fake, ONLY because it’s simply too easy to import an image that says “Hello World!” and try to pass it off as an exploit. In the absence of any ACTUAL user-created programs being run, we’ll all have to be skeptical of this one.

On another note, if by chance it IS real, doesn’t anyone else feel like perhaps this is a huge mistake to announce it without an actual cfw loader created first? The last time someone announced that they had found an exploit, Sony patched it and that was that. IF a real exploit was found, I would assume that coder would find a way to load cfw first, before announcing it.

Comment by Mavrick
2009-12-28 01:12:36

All of the hello world video’s ive seen all have moving text, blinking text, or something to show its not a picture. All of them require the psp to be rebooted, and if you did exploit it, it crashes the psp so that a user program can run.

This is 99 percent a fake, cause i might be wrong, so its got 1 percent taken away.

2009-12-28 03:12:46

After reading the posts here I decided to look at the video a few more times to see if I can find the proof that this is fake. After going though the video a few times I don’t see where it says jpeg. I know that image exploits have in the past crashed or rebooted your psp after being executed. That isn’t the only possible way for something like this to act since it could crash back to xmb rather then crashing the psp altogether. I haven’t looked at the code for the 6.20 firmware but from the time I was coding I know there is code that makes a system resist crashing. If that kind of code has been put into newer firmwares then something like a buffer overflow exploit would just crash back to the xmb instead of crashing the system.

This doesn’t mean I believe this exists and I don’t really care if it does since I have my hacked 1001 and am not planning on getting a new psp. It just means that I think half of the people posting in this thread are full of bs.

I think we are failing to see the bigger picture here. No matter how hard Sony tries to patch up its cracks they will always have an exploit to take advantage of. But yeah this has to be a fake since 6.xx and up i don’t think allows tiff picture formats.

Hi,
fake or not it`s not a prove that it`s a fake cause it`s in jpeg format(never heard of an jpeg xploit on windows?)
Psp Xploits don`t have to be in .tiff format bug`s are everywhere in all picture format`s,saves and so on but it seems the .tiff format was full of bug`s
I think this is the reason s0ny stopped the support.

If this was a real exploit, he would have demonstrated on a psp GO! !!!!

Comment by Dave
2010-01-01 15:27:55

I mean, yo, he’s demonstrating on a fukin fully hackable psp!
Wat r u thinking-? —

yo if anyone here finds any exploits, tell greg ( not to sound like a kiss ass lol )
and send him the game save/info so it’s proof and he’ll confirm it. Freeplay fucked up the first time, although he did try good.

Just make a video of a PSP GO not a PSP 1000 2000 or even 3000. And of course show the hello world

Comment by Tipped OuT
2010-01-08 01:26:43

@Dave

Not really. What if he doesn’t have a PSP Go? What is he going to do, buy one just to show you? Get real.

The whole point of this “exploit”, was to show that 6.20 OFW is hackable. Not that the PSP 3000’s or Go is. I don’t know where you got that idea from.

And those of you who say it’s fake, how do you explain the music that plays, and the fact the preview images are green instead of black (like in a typical TIFF exploit)?

Yes, I know the image isn’t a TIFF, but how can we rule out the possibility of a JPEG exploit? Seriously. Think for a second instead of hoping on the band wagon and yelling out “FAKE”.
