PSP-Maps v2.2 Released; Google Maps, Yahoo! Maps & More on Your PSP!

greg | December 16, 2009

Royale returns with PSP-Maps version 2.2… PSP-Maps works best when you’re near a WiFi connection; it uses Google Maps, Yahoo! Maps, Virtual Earth, and as of version 2.1, OpenStreetMap to fetch and display geographic locations.

PSP-Maps also works in an offline mode; you just gotta build the disk cache before hand. So do this if you’re anticipating some travel: download PSP-Maps, install it, start it, at the main menu, up the cache zoom levels and size to whatever you see fit, exit the menu and navigate to your whereabouts or destination. Bada bing bada boom — you’re at the nearest strip club.

Furthermore, PSP-Maps is compatible with the PSP-290 GPS and Motion Kit device. See the read me — it’s all there for ya.

PSP-Maps v2.2:

  • replaced radius scan with recursive scan
  • allow bigger disk cache
  • updated urls.txt for Google Maps

Wow, someday i’ll have to get the GPS so i can use this.

Is this any use without GPS? Can it tell where you are using IP geolocation?

psp-3000 with 5.03 gen just gets stuck at Loading… Virtual Earth/Road when I select my wifi connection. If I open the exe from the psp via usb connection I can build up the cache and view some stuff, but that’s just not practical. I would be nice to be able to enter an address using keyboard imputs when in pc mode rather than the up and down keys to select the letters and numbers. Any ideas on the stuck loading screen? I cant seem to find any FAQ anywhere for this.

Also, are there any other map homebrews out there for the psp?

  10. Lobnjak says:

Дизайн понравился, и функционал на удивление оригинален, пользуюсь уже )

  11. I’ve had trouble using offline as well but figured it out. You need to set cache to a decent size, also zoom levels, and then browse the entire map area you want to save. Also you’ll need to browse the area using the various zoom levels as well if you need zoom. Then from there save favorite and then you’ll be able to bypass network and load favorite.
