[WIP]: Super Mario Brothers Re-crafted; PSP Mario: The New Worlds v0.02

greg | December 7, 2009

It’s a work in progress; that said, there isn’t much here in terms of playability, but I gotta respect dan369′s effort behind PSP Mario: The New Worlds… Think of this as a tech demo powered by MK2k and InsertWittyName’s PGE — the Lua Phoenix Game Engine… And while you’re at it, have a look at the source too — maybe you’ll learn something.

PSP Mario is the obvious attempt at cloning the original Super Mario Bros. And game play is certainly faster than what the video would lead you to believe. RemoteJoyLite slows things down a bit.

Furthermore, in its current state, there is only one playable level with no brick-busting abilities or power-ups. Remember: it’s a demo. So if you’re lookin’ to get your Mario game on to the fullest, you best download NesterJ or FCEU-PSP and search for the appropriate rom.

  3. PooPing|NinJa says:

    Cool!! but no sound?

  4. bonbon says:

im giving credits for the effort and knowledge in developing such homebrew (can’t do that myself) but the thing is, why develop such game if you can emulate that single game with thousand other games. i think is just a waste of time for the developer (no offense. its just my opinion)

  5. Taco says:

    @bonbon

I think it’s just to create a new version of the game. Creating it from scratch can allow so many opportunities to create a new Mario Bros experience.

  6. James says:

Why not just use a SNES emulator and load up Super Mario All Stars?

  7. Aridale Noblebrook Belmont says:

you guys are missin the point. Hes makin a Mario ENGINE. Whatever lvls he makes from any of the existing mario games is to show the lvl of accuracy of the engine. After the engine is mostly complete you could make an entirely new mario game or even a completely new game that plays similarly to mario

Theres a huge variety of ways a good platform engine could be put to use on the psp… regardless of its origins are a mario game

    • Mavrick says:

Well its good that at least one person here has a brain. Hopefully when its near completion he will make a level editor so we can all make levels for it. I made some pretty fucked up levels for mario world that still piss my friend off.

    • headsupkid01 says:

WOW! you two are so much better than us, it’s unreal. You should be very proud of your self’s. BRAVO….Clap…Calp!!

      • Mavrick says:

Why us? Do you have a mouse in your pocket? Seriously, did you have nothing to contribute your douche? Dont answer that, its rhetorical. You know, when your asked a question we already know the answer to.

Also, if you could, please kill yourself.

  8. CArla la q t chupo la malanga says:

wow this is garbage fuk whoever made this disgrace

  9. terbo says:

    it can’t save?

  10. Facebook User says:

People who are puzzled at this should be. Why would anyone care to play more mario 8-bit levels?

I hope whoever is coding it has fun doing so because that’s pretty much the only thing that will be gained from such an endeavor.

If I may make a suggestion for homebrew, maybe a grid based strategy game like disgaea except using dnd 3.5+ rulesets and classes. Or a faithful shadowrun 3+ game. Or maybe an engine based off ffvi so you could make additional areas and levels for that.

    • Mavrick says:

I don’t know, why dont you ask the two million people who purchased Super Mario Bro on the Wii VC? How about the people who purchased ‘the New Super Mario Bros’ for Wii?

Fact is, people enjoy playing old games, remakes, and revisions.

Your request comes off a little pompous, as if to say that your disgusted with this project, please code yours instead. Download it, or dont, but there is no need to attack him just because you dont like it. In the future, please only speak for yourself and not the entire community.

      8bit Classic Games FTW!

  11. The Regginator (Nintendo) says:

    Take this shit down now….

  12. manofskate says:

Why not just run an NES emulator with the rom? o.0
