Team GEN on Custom Firmware 6.XX; 5.50 GEN-D3/5.03 HEN-C Release Imminent

It’s useless, there’s no point… That’s straight from Team GEN.
Development has indeed begun on custom firmware 6.XX; however, Team GEN was struck with the realization, “is it really worth it right now? 5.50 GEN / 5.03 HEN already provides the necessities.” Real recognize real. So the current game plan: continue releasing 5.50 GEN (for PSP-1000/2000) and 5.03 HEN (for PSP-3000/2000 TA-088v3) updates. And with that said we can expect 5.50 GEN-D3 and 5.03 HEN-C in a few hours.
What about CFW 6.XX? Is it happening or what? What’s the deal?
It’s simple really… Sony has structurally changed the firmware in a number of ways prohibiting current homebrew in its current state. If custom firmware 6.xx were to happen right this day then developers would need to adapt their homebrew to the 6.xx kernel. Not to mention other functions would remain broken too. In the end it would be somewhat similar to the 1.50 to 3.xx transition we experienced way back when. So lets stick to the game plan and these regular 5.50 GEN / 5.03 HEN patches are likely to accommodate what’s needed; i.e. compatibility for games requiring 6.20 or higher. Lets just hope we’re back on PSN with GEN-D3/HEN-C, and then we can save Custom Firmware 6.xx for another day.

humm, interesting. i think they have it there. if they can just patch up 5.50. but i personally think that sooner or later we will have to make a 6.xx CFW because i think there will be new features being released. plus with the GO having bluteeth, i see a lot of potential to what developers (homebrew and retail) can do with it. but good job guys!

ok , we are kinda happy with GEN-D but the problem that i have in my PSP is ( PSN and WiFi i cant get access to any WEP or WPA networks ) ???? so i was really hoping to have new CFW to solve those problems anyway we have to thank team GEN for their great work but CFW 6.XX is a must sooner or later …..
That’s what the GEN D2 update was supposed to fix (WEP/WPA networking). My PSP connects to my network which uses WPA2 encryption (using D2)

i had a problem connecting too. turns out i had my router in G-Only mode. when i switched it to mixed my psp connected no problems

What really made me feel like an idiot is just 2 hours before *when I bought my PSP (2 weeks ago)* I was talking to a friend about how the PSP go uses a B network instead of G. When I figured out what I had done we had a good laugh at my stupidity. :P
Even thought its been up and down with gen firmware, I REALLY appreciate what they do. I just REALLY hope the next release is less buggy and supports homebrew a little bit better. PSN would be nice too haha.

I sense a recall happening.
At this point, I’m still waiting on a 1.50k patch for 550gd2 (running 1.50 via Time Machine works, but it’s a hassle). On the same, topic, I’m sure the same concept would work with a 6.xx CFW, an additional 3.xx kernel patch (or perhaps a native 3.xx kernel).
Interestingly enough, I’m surprised I haven’t heard of anybody looking into the possibility of writing a PSP bootloader, something that can be used to boot into different firmwares (cfw and ofw alike) from the Memory Stick, with a ‘backup’ ofw in flash in the event an MS isn’t inserted. Perhaps they have and it never got far enough off the ground to mention, but if not, it certainly seems like a very worthwhile future project for a team like GEN.
They had the ability to boot into OFW in 5.03 GEN for hack-able PSPs.
but.. but.. but.. i would love to read the official 6.20 comics on a cfw. xD haha
yeah, having 6.xx’s new kernel would be a problem for our homebrew compatibility and yeah that would suck. so i’m still happy with older fw as long as i can use my everlasting homebrew. would love to play online soon on the psp though. and yeah it require current latest firmware.

They could end up being like Daedalusx64, releasing new revisions every 1-2 weeks. 5.50GEN-Rev428 or whatever. But at least they are doing something.

I’m a bit sad about not relasing the 6.xx yet… I understand their opinions… but what about the ppl (like myself) who have PSP 3000 (or PSP go) with 5.70… and got out from the box like that so you can’t even say I screwed it. You wouldn’t be able to update to the 6.xx Gen anyways since you have a 3000 and are on ofw 5.70. You can only update from cfw to cfw or from ofw to ofw.

Let me start by saying im not hateing on any one (not Team GEN or M33). With that said, this just seems to me that team GEN is taking the same exit strategy as Team M33 by simply saying, “oh well, what’s the point.” You should just cut all the crap and say no we just dont want to make a new CFW right now. it’s the holiday season and we want to spend time with our families and friends. And we would all rather be having sex with our partners(because im sure there are some female devs too)than bust our asses right now. We just want to take it easy for a while.

I agree. However, all homebrews will stop working.
So? It is not like the developers of the home-brew can not fix things in there own software. There is no reason to stagnate firmware hacking because somebody does not want to update their own software. It is not even like people would have to update as soon as it is out. They can wait until the home-brew they want is updated to work on it.
psn aceess will be blocked even with 6.20 custom firmware as it can detect the firmware is cutom just like with the new games and therefore im just repeating what gen said above..
also for playing games online and the senseme channels read just what i said.
as for the digital comic service, first of all the comics need to be decrypted, oh what you gen to do that too, sure they got the task to spend their time to decrypt games on the fly but now you want them to decrypt comics too…
if you want comics so badly and think it is an esay task then do it yourself and make an homebrew app to read them instead of using the official app so people can view them on any firmware not replying on custom firware makers to make the offical work everytime a new firmware is released
lastly for the bugs people seem to have, i dont have any bugs on 5.50 gend2, everything works perfect, but if you have an issue then wait, be very patient and extremely grateful that gen is still actively working on the firmware to eliminate the bugs…
also quit complaining about bugs, post them but dont hold it against gen, getting a custom firmware to work isnt easy, even dark alex struggled with 5.xx firmware and hence decided to quit for now as it requires allot of time and dedication, but hey dont take my word for it and take a stab at it and by then youll enjoy a bricked psp (hence why work on psp 3000 and psp go is slow as if it bricks then it needs to be replaced by new as it has zero pandora support)
I all honesty just be extremely grateful gen did release a firmware that can play all the games to date otherwise it will be like before where all the new release title no longer work, heck it can happen again with these ungrateful assholes insulting gens work… and you wonder why dark alex and m33 left scene

Also, be aware that since 6.00, Sony has structurally changed the firmware and removed a number of things “useless” to run the game but needed to run some utilities and other homebrew. This has been remedied, in large part by our split of development but it would require a general update of all that exists in homebrew (games and utilities) and the themes and all that goes with it. In fact, we arrived with the 6.xx to a point which recalls the passage of homebrew 1.xx to 3.xx but one of the worse. Indeed, the 6.xx can no longer launch the ELF in the state and must repack all programs to make them compatible with the new system from Sony. In addition, tools such as hacking PSPLink and company are no longer compatible and must be adapted. This does not mean that it will not happen but it seems now that all this upheaval is not worth the trouble for so little gain.
Moreover, the vast majority of you think that if a custom firmware 6.xxGEN (or other) was posted, all games would work without problems. Note that this is not true in false for now, the protections detect the presence of a custom firmware and not the version number. Thus, to give you an example, Tekken does not turn on a 6.20GEN (or 6.20trucmuche) pure and hard. This should be adding the same correction as the 5.50GEN that it rotates. So why bother since 5.50GEN-D2 (5.03HEN-B) already provides the majority of what you can expect from a Custom Firmware and the 5.50GEN-D3 (5.03HEN-C), which arrival will be announced in a few hours, will still more things.
the latest CFW for PSP 3000 (Slim) is 5.03gen-B… i wondering if when the new CWF 6.10Gen or 6.20Gen be able to be installed in the PSP 3000 (slim)….or is it just for psp 2000 or 1000….. please important question…
well actually they should provide a kernel addon for the new cfws allowing old homebrew to be run
mabey a 5.00 kernel addon? they used to do this for all cfws because most homebrew used a 1.50 kernel making a 6.10/5.00 kernel mix would be a great way to solve this
yeah that all great and all but is impossible as currently all firmwares with 1.50 patch need to erase some stuff in flash for it to work…
just imagine how much stuff that needs to erased for the larger in size 5.xx firmware..
oh and dont forget that 6.xx firmware is even larger than before with comic reader plus other stuff bieng integrated, oh remember that a custom firmware is even larger than offical one as it contains drivers and other addons as well…

How about they just have a prompt when you turn it on. Press (X) for CFW 5.50-D2, press (O) for 6.xx CFW.
That would be like dual booting OS’s. the psp os is stored on the flash0 portion of the psp. 2 firmwires would never fit. Nice idea though.
it would work from the MS though. I have a 1.50 dual-boot w/ time machine from the MS because GEN doesn’t have a 1.5 addon

I would say realease the 5.50 GEN D3 and 5.03 HEN C and the 6.10 GEN people can make there own decisions or pandora there fimware so the psp can be back to normal if they release 6.10 GEN they can still work with it and have more info about the firmware and how to fix it

Yeah, the thing I miss is PSN access for online games and also remote play over the internet with a PS3. Here’s hoping there can be a solution for that with 5.50 updates. Whatever Sony did to detect the version spoofing has obviously been a tough one to crack.

The problem with playing newly released PSP games on 5.50 GEN is that when the save is created, it won’t be able to load when a CFW is updated to 6.XX for the same game (You will instead get a corrupted data error).
thats not gen issue but an issue when with the official firmwares as 6.xx use a different saving method just like 2.xx firmwares did compared 1.xx and 3.xx

Guys, Sony is (probably) a multi-billion dollar company. It’s because of this that they’re able to make it so hard for the hacking community right now. On the opposite side, our devs are not paid for the work they do. They can quit whenever they want to and we can’t say a damn thing because we haven’t contributed anything to them aside from a compliment every now and then. If we want all of this cfw so badly, then why not come up with a way to support our devs financially to increase their resources, morale, and drive. Same goes to those of you begging for specific additions to the cfw such as PSN and Senseme. Money makes the world turn, you know.

Even if they release a 6.xx CFW, you would still be stuck on 5.50, as you are on a PSP 3000.

u probably not seeing as how your running cfw through hen and your latest ofw is 5.03 or something.. not entirely sure but you wouldnt be able to update to 6.XX cfw unless gen provided the means of doing so with a patch or etc. for 2000 and 3000 users you can only update if GEN releases an installer, or a patch, but that probably wont happen.. so for now your stuck with 5.03 GEN-X lol X meaning A, B, C or etc..you need to remember your on 5.03 offical firware running custom through hen, it wouldn’t be impossible to update but at the very least very difficult for gen
Non 2000 or 3000 users already have something like 5.50? correct me if i am wrong out for them in use.
3000 users will mostly likely continue to have 5.03 custom firmware

GENyUS consists of a few members, while people working on PSP firmwares consist of hundreds, which all are teaming up to stop hacking. GENyUS are trying very hard to find loopholes and crack it and release it. Blame them for working very fucking hard.

Hey, I can just say this, I am happy with my 5.00m33-6 as long as the folks at PSPISO keep converting the games for newer firmwares to my firmware…and besides, DAX will come back..he’s just a busy man, who is waiting on a nice, new firmware that will CHANGE the PSP, not give it stupidly new features (Colors, SenseMe, Worthless junk) so I am confident that DAX will come back, when there actually is a major change to the PSP, not this colors and SenseMe bull shit.

Is it possible to do a Time Machine esque thing, in the sense import the features of future firmware to work on an older version while appearing as an official psp 6.xx. The features i would like to see is Facebook, Comic Reader(not a comic book fan but could possibly turn out to be a good e-book reader once hacked), and Fire Fox and Netflix. Right now I’m kind of regretting that I bought a PSP Go since it’s homebrew scene seems dead in the water.
i can think of one really good reason why 6.XX CFW needs to be released…
1) PSN Access
2) Greater compatibility with games.
3) All homebrew can be updated to work with 6.xx, and the future 7.xx assuming sony doesnt change anything.
I swear I smell something fishy. It makes sense that the kernel is different in 6.xx and therefore all homebrew will not currently run on the newer firmwares, but if that is the case then how did team typhoon run that emulator on the GO hen that they supposedly had and play sonic? Nobody mentioned anything about converting the emulator. I think someone is telling a half truth here. Either GEN is making a good excuse for not coming out with a good 6.xx cfw or typhoon faked that video somehow. I’m leaning more towards typhoon being the culprit because they said they were going to release a 2nd video but I haven’t seen anything yet.
there was only 1 6x hack that didn’t get released until it was to late. yes 6x can do homebrew but like most big firmware changes homebrew software will need to be updated to support it. trust me if i knew how to work with firmware i would release it myself. team gen just cant get it to work so there using this excuse acting like the homebrew community hasent ever kept up with major changes. of course we have with every big update.

I personally like team gen for keeping the scene alive , and screw the 6.10/6.20 CFW , you know why , well the new thing is the comic reader and the sens me thing , but you know what , a 6.10/6.20 CFW will be only compatible with hackable psps , so why don’t people with hackable psps do this instead : Make pandora battery + magic memory stick , update to latest ofw , use test m33 from pandora menu and enjoy latest ofw with cfw capabilities.
Gen team made the game decryptor which was a great thing in that time before the release of 5.50 GEN-D/5.03 GEN-B , now they made 5.50 GEN-D2 and 5.03 GEN-B which get rid of the pain in the ass with the auto decryptor , and 5.50 GEN-D3&5.03 GEN-C is coming soon which will add more great things , so people stop complaining and thank gen for what they made , if it wasn’t for them the scene would be dead

well i have no real complaint with gens firmware when it comes to the system being stable. most issues are due to running 6x games on a old firmware. its a hack job and bugs will happen. i figured it was tolerable until 6x came out but it seems they just wanna keep up hacking up 5x rather then letting the scene deal with 6x and making the upgrades to there software. and to me i would say they don’t really have a working 6x hack and are making excuses.
Ohh okay. I’m upset about the homebrew related issues. Not really worried about playing the ISO’s as much… I mean it’s great that I can use it for iso’s, but I think focus needs to been on the whole thing not just that area…
isos are a matter but even new legit umds you own will be buggy on gen-d due to them using newer calls the old firmwars simply dont support. psp is byond 5x firmware and so should the homebrew scene not because gen thinks 5x is more compilable witch it isnt.

I’m really getting tired of people complaining about NOT having 6.XXCFW, how about you actually stop looking at a gift horse in the mouth, and be glad with what they have, I know it’s unprofessional, but what isn’t about hackers really? Let’s just be happy with what we have, we will get 6.XXGEN we just have to wait a little longer than we want to. Iv been using gen for a while since gen-b. its not perfect but it does what it does very nicely. No program is perfect and needs time to work out the bugs. my psp runs very smooth on gen-d2. its better then m33 in some ways including built in pandora battery maker and emulates psx perfectly. m33 was great but times are changing and im glad we have the gen team filling dark alex’s shoes. very nicely done and looking forward to the updates you have in store for us.
Eh, I’m sure it can be done. There’s not much they could change without breaking game compatibility. What they removed can be re-added from older versions, etc.
But maybe it’s easier just to port the new features back to older firmwares, patch out the version checks, and be done with it. As long as it works, there’s little reason to care about the internals.
running older firmwars on old games is the issues. newer games use newer firmware calls. hence why we dont make 1.50 homebrew anymore new firmwars support better stuff. why the hackjob we have makes alot of games lockup or nsimply not work they need the new firmware. and not just isos any legit new umd games you have.

freeplay was real and its out look on this site. but both the game and firmware where patched and it no longer works. the go will always be a dead horse. any hacked game will be pulled. the scene needs to focus on 2 things a 6x firmware and a hardware mod for the go and ta-83 3000 models.

So many comments, I read about a third of them. Anyway I am anticipating the update, I don’t know why but I got a PSP3000 and Gen is my only option. I am wondering why Worms 2 works on GEN-A and not on GEN-B :(?? Anyway the game is not that great but I like to have one game of each type of gameplay on my memory stick so when I feel like in the mood for that type it is there, worms has a unique type for me.

Only thing I think is fair is for a dev team to create a 6.xx CFW for people to install apps, play homebrew, and play isos. Other than that, the CFW dev team doesn’t need to do anything else really.
For all the go owners. Saying screw the newers OFW’s just stick with 5.xx is being really selfish. You have to upgrade sometime. People that want to dev for the psp-go and the new OFW will do so. No reason to shut the idea out because you think laying down low and keeping it the way it was is what YOU think is best.
go hacking is never gonna hit public.the second any game expolite comes out the game is pulled and patched. when the video got posted on a certen game confirmed real or not sony pulled that game. the game is back but patched agenst it. even if you manage to relese before sony pulls it will only be a matter of hrs before they do. and relly the 40 bucks you spend on a tempary hack can be better spent on a hardware solution like a modchip. the 1 angel of attack the scene hasent done sense the 1000 days being its been unneeded due to pandora.

I’m not trying to bash on GEN. They’re taking up the reigns do something noone else will do by making new firmwares and enabling CFW users to play all the new games. I appreciate that. It’s just that some of us prefer to stick to 5.00 m33 until a stable enough GEN is released because honestly 5.50 just doesn’t add anything worthwhile that 5.00 didn’t already have(excluding getting rid of the need to decrypt.
That said, your response sort of contradicts itself and your original post so I hope I’m not just wasting a rational response.
i think that the 6.10gen is better than 5.50 gen because the digital comics and the sens me channels are 2 good reasons for do the cfw, and the homebrews and isos going to be the same… i think..

Can Anyone tell me what’s the difference between M33-6 adn GEN? I have 5.00 M33-6 at the moment, and I was thinking about updating to Gen-D3 when it gets released for Naruto Shippuuden: Narutimate Accel 3. But now I’m not so sure… Anyways, what are the differences?
GEN D-2 already allows for playing 5.55+ games without any workarounds, but it’s also slower.

If you REALLY need access to the PSN store and you have a version 1000 or 2000 then upgrade and use pandora to downgrade… worked for me fine.

ok, so leave the 6xx cfw for another day but give us something to work with beside an exploit. A downgrade to 5xx maybe or something…sheesh
i got a TA-088v3 and to make it worse it has OFW 6.20 installed… is there anyway i can run homebrew applications, ISO, CSO file….

LOCKE i had same problem.. but 2 days ago i found something.. i added to my ta-088v3 ofw 6.20 homebrew.. i added PATAPON 2 ELOADER.. when you load game you press the R button and it goes to a page that can run some homebrew.. i added gameboy advance(7giga games) and snes(2-3giga) and its the best now.. i hope i helped a lot of people that didnt know about this.. ;)

Well, i am on the same drill with PSP 3004 ofw 6.20, and it’s indeed sad that GEN might not release a cfw for 6,**…
But ffs i can’t stand those dumb people blaming GEN and demanding stuff when they’ve never made a single donation for all the hard work it’s been made upon cfw. So for you people whining just shut up and pray GEN team feels like helping your sorry as*ses with this firmware version.
What someone said tho is true and makes sense. GEN says it’s not worth the trouble for a 6.** cfw, but in the future they may make it cos it’s a whole other generation of firmware that new features will be introduced.
