PSP-3000 and TA-088v3 owners — it’s your time to shine… Or at least I hope it is… Yoshihiro and Team GEN have released their highly anticipated PSP Custom Firmware 5.03 GEN-B for all ChickHEN-enabled handhelds. It’s on you; I don’t have a PSP-3000 to test with… So whether your 5.03 GEN-B experience be a positive or negative one, I ask you leave it below.
Core features:
- Play games (UMD or backup) requiring firmware 5.50+, including 6.xx
- Play games that introduce their own cfw detection / protection
- Play PSOne games
- Access to the VSH and Recovery Console
Known bugs:
- MGS demo refuses to run
- The Recovery mode menu is “mixed”
Keep in mind: you need a PSP-3000 or PSP-2000 with the TA-088v3 board. Your PSP also needs to be running [official] firmware 5.03; this is required for ChickHEN.

hi i want to help friend, that he have mother board tv3 but his cfw is 5.51, i want to get it back to 5.3, any help guys??
Currently not possible with TA-88v3. It would just brick. He should consider getting a second hand psp with older FW.
maybe try with pandora, but be carefull, the TA088v3 doesn´t support cfw.
install 5.00 ofw with dc8 and update then to 5.03 (dont´t know, if it will work; try it – if the firmware installed by buying was <=5.00 it should work.)

what are the changes/improvements from gen-a to gen-b?
The only noticeable difference is being able to play 5.50+ games without having to patch anything, which is a huge time-saver.
You should really read above more carefully.

What registry hack problem are you referring to?
Whenever I enter “recovery mode,” then click “registry hacks,” my PSP returns to the home screen, then shuts off automatically.
I’m not sure if it’s supposed to do that, which I’m sure it’s not, but I can’t seem to gain access to certain parts of the recovery menu…

Unfortunately, this is one of the bugs that is still present in GEN-B.
Some of the options in the Recovery Mode simply don’t work, and some other options (when enabled/disabled) actually affect OTHER options.

the solution to your problem:
if you want to go to the registry hacks, instead of selecting the “registry hacks” item, select the item ABOVE that. that will bring you to the actual recovery menu.
and you will also notice that this applies for every item in the recovery menu (except the first item, not exactly sure which item it started to screw that way.)

I’m having a problem. I try to install Gen A first and every time I boot into firmware the psp just turns off and is in firmware 5.03 again. I turned off all my plugins and uninstalled CFW and reinstalled and it’s still doing the same thing. Any suggestions?
you don’t need GenA first.. you can go straight to GenB

idk what to do help2. the truth is.. 1st of all i download the file. then run the genb2 patch. and it worked. it say 5.03GENB2(full)*happy*. then i try wwe smakcdown vs raw 2010. it crash and reset vack to 5.03ofw. then i redo again the chicken. then i launch quick updater GENB2 and i look system info still on 5.03GEN-A(full). i try many times but still the same. do help ler…
Easy.. after done with chickhen R2 procedure, just proceed to 5.03 gen-b updater and press L trigger while it is still loading. There will be option to flash the version.txt as you did the 1st time. Just reflash it and you are good to go. Hope this helps ;D

so it won’t work on the phat or a non TA-088v3 PSP 2000? ican’t seem to ba able to load GTA: chinatown wars on my phat, which currently is on 5.50 GEN-D2. any suggestions? anyone of you able to play GTA:chinatown with 5.50 GEN D-2?
try changing the umd iso mode in recovery. not sure though coz mine is phat 5.50 gen-d2

all of them don’t work. the only thing i can think of for now is that the iso i have is corrupted.
cos, the iso file does not even show up in my XMB > Game > Memory stick

Change to ISO mode Sony.

the iso doesn’t appear on my xmb > mem stick.
probably its corrupt. the cso file i have is 528MB.
Also, make sure the file name isn’t too long or iso or cso files won’t appear in the xmb.

your psp need to be in 5.03 firmware to use the 5.03GEN-B cfw update. u need 2 use pandora battery to downgrade the psp firmware version.

Actually I have a PSP 3001 (Came with Rockband bundle) running 5.03 Gen B. I have tried evry way to run Gran Turismo and still getting code 80020321.

U can simply just copy both 5.03 gen-A and 5.03 gen-B into your ms0:PSP/game/ then run chicken R2, followed by installer 5.03 gen-A, subsequently run updater 5.03 gen-B. Thats all to it. Rite after u have flash the version.txt for the 1st time if lets say u hard reset your psp, then just run chickhen R2 then directly proceed to 5.03 gen-B updater. Hope this helps. ;D
YOu can just install gan b on top but if u really want you can cold boot (fully turn your psp of) and then chicken hen then gen b but u dont have to.

use different umd modes, and experiment with “Execute bin in umd/iso” and “Enable Plain modules in whatever” or something… that’s how you fix it. Just gotta find the right combo. Mine is set to:
UMD/ISO Mode: M33 Driver
Plain modules: Disabled
Execute Boot.bin in umd/iso : Disabled
Just play around with it.

Try setting your UMD ISO MODE to M33 Driver by pressing SELECT button when your run the chickhen and gen-b.

Works great. Gran Turismo now works.
1) Flash your PSP with Gen-A.
2) In Windows go to the PSP/Games/INSTALLERXXXXX folder and replace the old Gen-A EBOOT with the new Gen-B EBOOT you download here.
3) Load up your PSP and go to “Game Memory Stick”, find and activate “Quick Updater 5.03GEN-B” (it should appear as purple icon with two arrows).
4) Follow the prompts and you’re done.

Just skip straight to Gen-B installer… It worked for me :/

You run the 5.03 gen-B installer. If you turn your PSP off (hard OFF, not sleep mode) you simply redo the TIF enabler thing, then run “Quick Updater 5.03GEN-B” from your “Game Memory Stick”. You don’t press anything once you run “Quick Updater 5.03GEN-B”. You just wait and it reboots itself and you’re done.
Wait. You said copy the eboot.pbp from 5.03 gen-b to 5.03 gen-a installer folder , this means that the 5.03 gen-a installer will change to 5.03 gen-b quick updater , or that step is incorrect ?
and when I flash 5.03 gen-a , done. When I run 5.03 gen-b quick updater for the first time , what button do I press ( will they be R just like normal 5.03 gen-a ? )

Yes, you are safe to use this method to hack your psp, no it will not brick your psp, do to so, simply follow tutorials that are floating around everywhere.

You will probably not be able to use Chicken Hen on your PSP, because of the firmware…
So, I suggest selling off that PSP and getting a PSP PHAT or PSP3000 from the store… Whichever’s cheaper :/ Or just stick with the thing…

With TA088v1 you can just get pandora it to the latest M33 of GEN actual custom firmware, which is must more reliable, saves time, and has more features. But yes, it does work, as long as you have 5.03 OFW

Uninstalled 3.60 M33 Installed directly gen-b,when i boot mgs demos one wants 5.55 the other 6.0 firmwares,
When i boot arctic edge it boots it does the red screen and then stays there with black screen with psp non freezing nor rebooting and i can access the menu to reboot to the menu ! I did try the restore version.txt with the left key nothing ! Please help or m gonna trash this shit out of the window !

ok it now works if u got a non magic gate memory(at least i think its that) use the m33 driver not the sony one,now arctic edge boots m gonna try the mgs demos they say they do boot with plug ins off and version txt on but i dunno how to change the version txt 9.90 or 6.10 and where to find it

mgs demo wont work on 3k cfw but on phat and slim it will ok well i think maybe if someone got it to work idk
Brainpipe doesn’t work, both a patched and unpatched version won’t work.

You didn’t need to run GenA then B
For those who have the problem with Soul Calibur IV or any other game in wich appears the following error: 80020148. Here is the solution..!!
Access recovery menu (press the SELECT button) then:
->Advanced
->Advanced configuration:
*Plain modules in UMD/ISO (enable)
*Execute BOOT.BIN in UMD/ISO(enable)
Enabling these two will solve your problem! At least worked for me!

Try the option above it, for some reason when I enter the recovery menu and click advanced the CPU submenu appears, clicking on the option above Advanced then shows the Advanced submenu for me.
Hi I’ve tried this multiple times, but every time it says “Now Reboot your PSP in 5.50 GEN B” the screen goes black for a few seconds and then the PSP just turns off. I’ve uninstalled 5.03 MHU and follow the instructions exactly, but still I get the black screen, does anyone know how to solve this?

You have to go to recovery “manually”, have the PSp turned off, then turn it on with the button R pressed till it appears the recovery menu, then go to Configuration, Use VshMenu (VSHMENU).

i figured it out. when you click on the 5.03gen-b updater hold L and it should take you to emergency mode and just press X and it should do it all over again.

okay okay,i solved it…first set your psp settings to defaults and restart…and about your memory card,move all files to your comp and reformat it from comp then from psp and put only chickenhen r2,cfw 3.30(to uninstall the old cfw files purpose if you have) and gen b files to your MS and enable chickenhen,open cfw 3.30 uninstall the old cfw files that are installed to flash0 and try gen b again(srry for my poor english) worked for me but i dont know if it will work for Aaron

Wait,I had to reboot my PSP and I’m having the same problem again…
hmm…try to uninstall the cfw files then fully off the psp,enable the chickenhen R2 and press L while launching gen b for emergency installer then try again..if not working,i couldnt think how to do it other than this way..
most probably the unknown file created by cfwe 3.6 made the MS problematic a bit >.>

After installing gen-b i played dissidia US, then i went back to home screen and hard reset by accident, now i can’t boot into chickHEN any more, ive booted into chickHEN b4 MILLIONS of times, now it wont work at all, what do i DO??

try reformatting your memory stick (make a back up first of course)
when i click it it says corrupted
Tested 6 games, one of the backup game tom clancy vegas get error message game cannot start , tried different iso drivers like m33 an sony etc, still not working. Game worked on 5.00 m33, using same stick.
Hey I’m not sure if this helps anyone but at first i couldn’t get madden 10 iso(this game could not be started(80020148)to work.
but undead knights worked.
so I decrypted madden But didn’t patch it and it worked

1.Recovery menu doesnt work correctly,
2.There is no PSX support.Freezes before PS logo…

Hard reset PSP.Enable ChickHEN R2 then start CFWE 3.60 while pressing R button.Then you will see uninstall option.Uninstall then hard reset your PSP.Then start ChickHEN R2 and reinstall CFWE 3.60 and PSX files.Never use GEN-B quick updater again.I made like this…
how can i make it back to CFWEnabler3.60? because when i switch to CFWEnabler then run it… it is still Gen-b(full)…. even i already delete the Gen b…

Hey guys, I need some explanation coz I am kinda lost. First how can I know if my PSP-3000 motherboard is a TA088v3 or not !! and second I know I made a mistake by upgrading my OFW to 5.5 so I have to wait more for a CFW 5.5, but I wanted a light of hope by knowing my psp-3000’s motherboard model. no, it’s not permanent. There isn’t permanent firmware for PSP-2000 TA-088v3 and PSP 3000 yet.
i think the old psp’s are better…
bcuz its too easy to hack…..
3000’s motherboard is fucking HARD!!!!

I have a question. They keep making these updates for custom firmware but none of them (at least for me anyway) none of the demo’s i download from the play station store work. the game i payed for works fine but the demo’s they never work.

red screen just a normal thing that always happen when launching game(most likely thats the reason we can play 5.50+ game?=.=)

i think you shud try it. it’s just the same as gen-a if your using it at the moment.
the red screen is just a signal that the decrypter is working especially the old games. this is just wat i have research over the days.
Worms Open Warfare doesnt seem to work with this cfw either.
Try this – press select – VSH Menu, Recovery Menu, Advanced, Advanced configuration, Execute BOOT.BIN in UMD/ISO – Enabled

i thinks this cfw works only on psp 3000 5.03 firmware..
i tried this cfw and it work nice even though the red screen before the game open…..
as i have said.. i think this only works on psp 3000 motherboards with 5.03 firmware version..
