Game Categories v9 Released
greg | November 1, 2009
Take a break from that Kit Kat bar and upgrade to Game Categories v9. It adds this new categorization mode called “Content Browser” that is no doubt, in my opinion, the best mode. It’s so seamless, so fine — Bubbletune’s Game Categories v9.

Bug Already…
The new mode breaks all my ISOs…I go into the ISO category and they all say “Broken” and wont boot up. But the other modes work fine.
And he still hasn’t fixed the positioning bug in the context menu mode.
I should have probably said that im using a CTF theme…When im not using one, my ISOs show up and work.
And now they don’t show up even without a ctf theme.
Alright, I got it working, by updating to 5.50GEN-D2. Some weird M33 incompatibility bug I guess…
no bug for me. works great thants gregg
erm i cant c the vid?
awesome, it even completely skips the gameboot.
I think that might be the best effing part! ^^
Loving the new mode though. Nice fucking work indeed…
It doesn’t skip the gameboot on my PSP! How do you make it do that?
What? Isn’t that a feature of GEN-B 5.03?
love the look but everything is laggy in the xmb now, and it skips the gameboot (i like my custom gameboot)
I might finally get around to using it.
I seem to be having a problem too! When I use content browser, the games and homebrews show up outside the folders and inside them too!
(Currently using PSP3000 w/ CFW 5.03 GEN-B)
NIIIIIIIIIIIIIICCCCCCCCCCCCEEEEEEEEEEEE!”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It’s so nice, that’s why this comment has so many exclamation marks!!!!
Great stuff. I still can’t believe that Sony hasn’t implemented something like this already. They’ve got the whole album feature on the PS3, so why they haven’t put this on the PSP already is baffling.
Im not getting any problems on it aside from a bit of lag when I try to browse my memory stick (photos, video, OR game.) I dont know if thats the lack of the MS Speed Boost in Gen-D2 or this plugin.
that new opinion looks sweet, great work! but i dont think i’ll upgrading from v8.
context mode is all i need for now and v8 runs fine on my 1000 w 5.00m33-6.
This is a very useful addition they added to V9, plus it loads my games faster as it skips the gameboot vid.
its cool,. i wish maybe the next release would have a password protection.
agreed… also that would be nice to add this option ‘hide/unhide uncategories folder’ under psp setting…
FYI:
gameboots are skipped only if you use the Content Browser option. personally i think there’s still plenty of work needed for this to become the best plugin ever. there should be a gemeboot on/off option and a way to create the list in any order you want(for categories and then for games in categories).
keep up the good work!
Uncategorized folder didn’t work in Content Browser mode
Very cool.
I noticed a bug where if you browse the music folder, then browse the game folder “while in Content Browser mode” instead of the game starting, it will view it as a picture… weird.
But anyways, this is an awesome plugin and i’m glad to have it on my psp.
Do you use the Hold Plugin also I’ve had this happen where it just shows the thumbnail and the game doesn’t start. It only seems to happen when I come out of hold mode. I’m going to try turning off the plugin and seeing if it does it again.
Ok after further testing it is a weird interaction between the Hold+ Plugin and the Game categories Plugin at least for me when it does that. When I turn off the Hold from it being on still or after its gone to sleep I only get a thumbnail image that comes up like I went to the picture section on my psp and the game won’t start. Now does anyone know where to report bugs to or do they actually check here??
I have the Hold plugin as well except when I lauch a game using the “Content Browser” mode the game skips the gameboot and goes straight to the game.
The plugin works fine on “Multiple MS” and “Context Menu.”
It’s supposed to skip the gameboot on content browser mode to mimic the ps3 I think. If you let it go to sleep while in hold then turn it back on it won’t boot the game just show you the icon. If you always power yours down all the way you won’t notice it. I keep it in my bag and listen to mp3s on my way to work and I have the psp remote so I pause it and let it go to sleep then when I leave work I only have to hit play on the remote and it will wake up and pick up where I left off. When I get on the train and turn off hold to play a game is when it does what I am describing. Maybe different firmware what version are you using? I’m on 5.50 GEN-D now.
Awesome work Bubbletune!
The best look-like “official” plugin EVER! ;D
I love this plugin, its great! The only downside is that there is no program out there compatible with this plugin that will allow us to order our psp apps within categories, or even the categories for that matter. If someone could come out with a way to organize the apps within the categories, I think we would have a winner!
Yeah there is…I’m using it mow…I don’t have a link but I can upload it later for you :)
*now* not mow lol
Alright, here you go :)

There is a way you can do it with PSP content manager.
1. Move all your apps to the GAME folder.
2. Use psp content manager to sort them’
3. Move all your apps back into the CAT folder.
You need to do this separately for each CAT folder.
OK, I have found a way to reduce the amount of lag while browsing through the “Content Browser” mode.
Install the 5.00M33 FatMSMod (Works on GEN-D2 btw), and then set the XMB CPU speed in recovery (or “Ultimate VSH Menu”) to 333 (max)
This almost completely gets rid of any lag on my PSP.
Does It work on 4.01m33-2?
Thanks…
Why you still so far behind you need 4.01 for something specific just curious. It does work on 5.00m33-6 from what I’ve seen on other peoples PSPs.
