Quick Updater for PSP Custom Firmware 5.50 GEN-D2 Released

Yoshihiro and Team GEN follow up with the quickness and release the Quick Updater for the much-anticipated 5.50 GEN-D2.
And the change log says…
- Evangelion anti-CFW patch fix
- Fix Wlan TKIP in game loop: pes 2009, fifa, motorstorm, GTA:CW etc.
- Fix video output with 5.5X and 6.X games like GTA Chinatowns War
- Fixed recovery menu with make Pandora and make battery normal
- Removed splash screen http://www.pspgen.com but you have another spash screen in red color for let you know if the decrypter work
And a few notes concerning select games:
- If Evangelion doesn’t work: Skip the intro.
- Use your own ISO and not a downloaded/pirated one. They’re gutted and often crap.
- If Full Metal Alchemist doesn’t work: At first launch create your profile. When done, choose an option like “free Battle Mode” and you are then returned to the start menu with an alert “Caution.” At this point, quit and relaunch. All works fine now because the profile was created.

the french are doing a fine job at taking over a scene that was left to die, nothing against DS, but GEN is doing their thing and doing it will, even if we have to beta test sometimes :P

I love DAX, but ever since he left, I used GEN. I’ll never forget DAX though.
The difference though is that (I haven’t followed gen that much) D added the ability to play games from 5.55 and 6.x firmware. The reason why there were so many versions of 5.00 m33 is ps1 games didn’t work right and other problems and it took that many versions to get everything to work right. I went pack to the previous m33 when I tried 5.00 m33 since it had many problems.
I won’t upgrade to this until I have the irshell patch. But its nice to know people are working on this. I still want 6.10 M33.

I cannot install
you know what i think, DA was a legend and we all know he was. He has been making CFW since the 1.5 days and he has done so until 5.00. So he has practice making CFW for a very long time and was able to master the art, and whenever a few firmware came out he just had to edit the old one to include the new features.
GEN only started after DA quit, so they are busy working and always adding new features and fixing old bugs. To me it looks like GEN is trying to prefect one CFW once and that will only happen with practice and trial and error. Once they get 5.50GEN perfected then they can move onto 6.XX because then it will just be a simple update.
We all know GEN is no way near DA and it will take them time, but they are doing a good job.
I have had oe and then Gen I never messed with Dark Alex so I dont understand why you guys are all over this thing with not updating to GEN these guys are doing a great job give them a shot if you dont like it reflash and go back to M33? Its not that hard!
never said i didn’t like them, i took the plunge when GEN-D came out. It was about time i updated, mainly for the auto decryption. The MS speeds people keep talking about i have not had a issue yet, so gen has finally made it to my psp.
Dark_AleX made OE firmwares, so technically, you DID mess with Dark_AleX’s firmwares. :)
Actually gen started while dark alex was still mafing cfw. I remember trying one of their first versions where they added game catagories but it didn’t work for me very well. I can’t remember what firmware version that was based upon but it was before 5.00.

How effective is this memory stick speedup anyways? i fooled around with it very little for a few hours. I did see that it caused problems when i would insert a memory stick while it was on sometimes, the orange light would jsut blink slowly, but i coudl take it out and put it back in and it would fix.
Anyways, while using it, i really notice absolutley no difference. When putting stuff on my MS, i use the card reader on my computer anyways, much easier for me than hooking up the cables.
this new gen firmware is just as good AND better than any m33 firmware i had used, and i can play all the new games, the new gran turismo is sweet.

What is mem speed up?? is that necessary to have mem speed up??? Still PSN Store not work update requires that sucks otherwise everything is good!

Well,these old bluejeans have too many holes in them. Another 5.50 patch. Splash screen is now all Red. No PSN on Media Go or wireless, still asks for a software update. Recovery menu went back to old B2 before Xgen. Version text still at 9.90 The 6.XX Nids have got to be a real ballbreaker like the 3.80 days. Thanks GEN but still unstable after reboot. Peace
i dunno as a m33 user, i can say i really like gen and have yet to encounter any of your problems. I did format flash1 and reset everything just so it’s all fresh and i will say it solved my battery problem that i was having

Actually, that’s not true. My official Sony 2gb is about 3Mbps transfer speed, while my Sandisk 2gb is 5, and my Sandisk 8gb has 7-8Mbps (sometimes as high as 9.5Mbps) transfer speeds.
And when I get my 2×16GB MicroSD converter, I have heard that it can get up to 13Mbps transfer speed.
hmm weird i got grand trusimo and it ran fine, got the red splash screen and eveything went fine. But cannot get soulcalabur to work get a game error.

I have 5.00m33-6 and soul calibur works. It works on GEN too. It works on 1000, 2000, and 3000 psp’s. Wanna know why? Google never lets me down. So to answer your question: Yes.

The game is working only FAT PSP and Only with 5.50 GEN-B CFW. On Slim PSP it will crash on the character select screen..Doesn’t work on 5.50 GEN-B SLIM PSP

Well, for one thing, Execute BOOT.BIN in UMD/ISO should be OFF. Because most ISOs/CSOs have this file ripped out, as it is useless dummy data.
And UMD Driver should be M33 Driver not Sony NP9660

Same here; A lot of people that got it working on GEN-B2 and shit changed their Version.txt to 5.55 to make it work, so I suppose we’ll have to try that.

Ive got Gen-D already install but how do I make it to Gen-D2?
Download Gen-D2 and extract psp folder into your memory card where psp folder is and overwrite it and try it. :)
so if ive read the readme correctly this cfw wouldnt work on TA-090v2?

Great Work Team Gen , but i still dont get why the PSN get screwed the first thing , is sony doing some authentication prcs or what , for me i will stick with the Gen-D as it works like a charm until the PSN issue get solved but in GENERAL ppl who r crying for DAX get a life and move on he is out of the scene he did a hell of a job but he is out so wake up and get over him ;)))
i think it’s get locked when a new firmware comes out. Just like they do with the 360, ps3, wii etc. It’s not becuase we have CFW it’s because we are on 5.50 when we should be at 6.1x etc.

I just installed GEN-D2 and tried playing Gran Turismo. It had a red screen for a few moments when loading the ISO before the PSP shut down completely. Did I mess something?

YES, it does this in GTA Chinatown wars also, probably in all games most likely. now GEN D3 lol
You probably don’t need to remove the battery since if you hold in the power button for awhile (30 seconds or longer) it will always shut off.
That isn’t really that bad of a problem since you can play the games and you are trying to quit the game anyways so you are not missing anything.

Uh, I think not. You can download tons of ripped (UMD to PC) games that haven’t had anything modified in them. It would not matter about the ISO being ripped of anything anyways.

You would have to create software to emulate their server for this to work. It wouldn’t be as difficult as it is to emulate an mmo but it would still take time if someone tries.
ok so i asked about cxmb last time and was goven a bunch of things to download to get it to work. but none of it worked. im not a noob with this stuff but i cant figure out how to get it to work? r they gonna release one that actually works for gen – D?

I am sure the author of CXMB is going to make a patch for it, to make it run correctly on this latest CFW, or if not him, someone will, there are a lot of talented coders out there. :o)
hey ive noticed that in system info it says that im at gen-B(full not gen-D(full) any1 else got same? or know y this is? it also wont let me change my theme bk to classic or origonal from the ctf theme i have.
It should say 5.50 GEN-D2, Did you upgrade to Gen B2 first then onto Gen D, then onto Gen D2 in that order.
Also you mean your .ptf theme don’t you, as CXMB doesn’t work in this latest firmware update.
I remember when back in the days when Dark_Alex leave the CFW scene for good,and suddenly came the M33 team with new CTW.Then we realize that M33 was DAKK_ALEX and his theam.
How do we know that this new team in not Dark_Alex again….
The GEN team & Yoshihiro are French, Dark Alex was Spanish, that’s why.
I don’t think DAX will be coming back, as he got pissed off with his work being stolen, as soon as he finished a update to his firmware, somebody would re-name it, as there work, and release it.
Gen also started while dax was making custom firmware.

LEDA doesn’t install on GEN…I tried it and crashed every time. Which is one of the reasons I’m still on 5.00M33-6
Sorry DAX said it was universal, so I though it would run on anything(almost).
There’s a little problem with Disgaea 2 (easily avoidable though). When you slide the power switch to temporarily turn off your psp while playing disgaea 2, the game freezes for a while and then turns off but only during the game’s cut-scenes. Any other time I switch the game off, it turns off perfectly. This error was also apparent on GEN-B with a decrypted version. It’s a small error but I just thought I’d mention it to anyone playing and so it can possibly be fixed. Heck, maybe it’s just something wrong with my cso, who knows.
Re-try as .iso and see if it does the same. :o)
It happened to me once with GTA, when on the cutscenes i suspended for a while, then later i turned on again, was reading, then it says couldn’t find the medias.
Also was on GPS map looking around and suddently the game hanged for a while then shutted down. :\
its a nice update. with one small flaw, the network update wont work like in gen-b. it says “not yet”
Noticed a little bug with D2, when trying to enter the webbrowser the psp freezes after like 20 seconds… Is it just me or has this happened to anyone else?

And a note for those who cant get CXMB to work, it works for me, have the same as I had with Gen B2, and using CTF tool by patpat to convert themes from 5.00 M33 to 5.50 Gen and it works as a charm :D

Kidos to the Gen team. From the comments sounds like it’s still a bit buggy. As well, the long awaited improve MS access is yet to be implement. Will stick to 5.00m33 till further notice.

I would really Suggest the gen team to make a slim gen Cfw and a Fat Gen Cfw because one thing works on the fat but when you try to use it on the slim it has bugs…

Currently running GEN-D2; Peace Walker DEMO wouldn’t boot up (80010013 error). Tried the Version.txt trick, enabled it and everything from the Recovery Menu; version still says 5.50 GEN-D2. Peace Walker DEMO STILL DOESN’T BOOT (80010013).
And bear in mind, the Version.txt trick worked for everyone on GEN-B2.

please stop telling people to uprade to anything before installing 5.50 gend because its a clean install hence it 5.50 firmware file included therefor a large download…. so anyone that can run homebrew can install it as d and d2 is complete install and not an upgrade, i guess you cant see the big clue like formatting flash when its installing the firmware meaning it doesnt matter what firmware is installed since it will be erased to install the 5.50 gend firmware…
please note that you still need a custom firmware to run it, so its a no go for guys with official firmware
also i use 16gb minisd card with converter and have zero probs with psp including with speed… if you have a speed issue then get a new memory card as it means yours a fake and it is failing…
also people with speed issues in game, make sure the game isnt cso and you shouldnt have speed issues at all

So because of a minor problem that isn’t much of a problem you are going back to a cfw that has worse problems.
Lunar demo still doesn’t work, it boots up, shows the “this is a demo” splash thing, fades to black and then backs out to the XMB saying the game couldn’t start.
That’s a shame. I would love to play Lunar…

try changing your UMD ISO mode from Normal to M33 and CPU clock game and CPU clock xmb change to default
if its anything like soul calbur you have to enable boot.ini from the recovery console
For anyone that wants to know.. I’ve tested both Ultimate PSPTube 2.0 & Netfront Beta 4 Browser by Team P86 And I’m pleased to say that they work absolutely flawless! :)
100% Working.
Oh, And Netfront Beta 4 Browser By Team P86 also works when you replace the html_viewer.prx file in your flash0/vsh folder aswell which is pretty neat.
So you are still able to start the Beta 4 browser from the original browser’s location in this custom firmware release!

Thanks Team-GEN for the hard work your giving us GAMERS, the new games are running smooth in CFW 5.50 GEN-D2, but some old games are not, i found that Tekken Dark Resurrection & UP doesn’t work and gives an error code (80020148).

Strange. Anyone else get a slight 1-2 second red screen after gameboot logo and before game actually starts? Never seen this on 5.50 Gen-D but after D2 it started showing unless it also did show in D but I haven’t noticed on it then when I was using it.

Thanks for the info Goro. Guess I was decrypting the games before and when D series came out from C. I just stopped using the decrypting software and let the CFW do the work so I never noticed before until now :)
Does the red screen mean 5.55/6.00 enabler is working or that the roms I had decrypt those with GameDecryptor is working ? Which ?
for decrypted games, it register as NORMAL and no red screen

guys, I found this irritating bug in Obscure the Aftermath. Everytime I try to skip the PLAYLOGIC intro, my psp hangs up. If I restart it, only a black screen comes out but if I take out my m-stick it boots up normal. anyone tried this? I’m using GEN-B2 & i was just wondering, is this fixed in D2? xD
Updated to D2, but I tried playing the new GTA and it shut off after it asked me to auto save. What am I missing?

PSP Slim is not reading UMD Discs after updating to GEN-D2.
Now it reads the UMDs after I pushed the laser a bit to the side.

Anybody able to get pimpstreamer (.91 or lower) working??? I know it is because it’s 1.5 kernel, but the fucking pimpstreamer 1.0 and 1.02 are fucking terrible. Anybody know an alternative brew for streaming avi’s???

since gen b2 works for everybody i would suggest gen to grab the 5.xx and 6.xx patch to work on b2 because in reality all i need for gen b2 to be perfect(for me)is just that i could get on the psn and go online on newer games like ftb3 since its coming out and i wont be able to play it since d2 wont let me go online and b2 i would need the patch spoof-er
I WOULD REALLY SUGGEST THE TEAM TO TAKE THEIR TIME DOING WHAT THEIR DOING AND TEST THEIR PROJECTS WITH BOTH A SLIM PSP AND FAT PSP AND IF THEIRS A PROBLEM THAT IS FIXABLE THEY SHOULD SHOW HOW TO FIX IT…
i was thinking of upgrading to 5.50gen D2 from 5.50gen b2 but i already have patched isos on my psp will they continue to work after i upgrade?

Is it just me or is this capable of making larger videos lag insufferably?
Alright, I can now officially confirm that videos at 480×272, depending on their length and size can lag insufferably. It’s even worse when the videos are at 720×480.
No complaints on 368×208.
But this better get fixed.
With this update I cant play Gran Turismo anymore….. -.- Ive tried decrypted version and normal iso, both doesnt work. Ive tested with all iso modes, but still doesnt work. Red screen and then on credits I got lagg and must to restart my psp. All other games works perfectly.
Found a bug in GTA China Town Wars. When you enter sleep mode with the psp, the game freezes. maybe it is posted here already, didn’t read all the comments.

I am trying update from Gen B, all files are properly placed, when i try to load the updater from the MS, the screen just goes black and nothing happens right after the psp screen.
any clue whats going on? Should i downgrade and start all over? or m i just missing something here?

i upgraded from 5.00m33-6 to 5.50gen D , and it only boots up to my web browser.. cant get to the xmb unless i take out my memory stick.. and if i try to launch any homebrew, it takes me to the web browser again..which im stuck at until i remove the MS again >.>
i disabled my themes and all that shit before i upgraded …

I can 100% confirm that Soul Calibur – Broken Destiny DOES NOT WORK ON GEN-D2.

ok smart guys. dark alex left.. gen is fine. and if you cant make it run well learn its easy. want a simplified version? if you have the gen d installed that lets u skip b, get a fat psp or slim with v1 motherboard. make a softmod pandora battery. build it to flash install gen d boot (im gonna assume u have m33 allready if not put it on) flash install gen d then go into recovery and format flash 1 then go into ur xmb where you will be in d. put the d2 updater on your card under game and then install it
and poof you will be at d2 with a pandora recovery for d. i did this and i have never had an issue. even when i messed up my psp fat and had the red recovery coming up the pandora fixed it with flashing gen d, stop knocking them they are far smarter then you… psx psp(iso cso) saturn,n64,nes,snes,gba,atari,sega,gamegear,amiga and a couple other emus i cant remember got em all running on my psp with little effort just some trial and error. you want this community to stay alive??? TRY LEARNING SOME STUFF YOURSELF. test things… stop being lazy. you are allready getting the games for free. jerk. furthermore ive discovered which psp go game has the hello world exploit. and i wont be saying on a forum. maby to a couple of the admins in an email or something.
also i got wwf to work on d2 just dropped from 333 to 222 because its what the games looks for. worked pretty good.. and uh soul caliber works……. did u get a good iso?? also i got a modded version of windows 3.1 to boot. not all pluggins work yet but it allowed me to plug a standalone cdrom into the psp 2000 and listen to a cd off of it.. its semi stable but im just testing and playing with it. btw we dont need dark alex we need people who care enough to learn and play around. with that i welcome myself to the world of psp customs and homebrew. the saturn emu works if you rebuild it properly but its testy and a bit slow. nulldc can be ported but not easily and it runs like crap. so just wait for them to fix it. im trying to figure out a way to take ps2 games onto the computer and drop the graphic images and the video quality to lower the usage to make some ps2 games playable on psp. so far ive only made final fantasy X run and its about 80% the gameplay is pretty good just the vidz n stuff are choppy. have i answered all the questions?
and for the record all of you wanting to go back to other things yeah u can… i just use a pandora battery you can build a pandora with more then one install. so u can have a whole list of cfw and ofw to flash to setup in your pandora menu. and remember to format your flash1 from recovery after you do this to clear any useless crap out. and lastly hardmod works kinda but its too complicated just make a softmod pandora. psp fat works best but u need a hacked psp to make a hacked psp with softmod.
u can try recovery flasher too for going back to older cfw, but ive never tried it.
I’ve updated from 5.00 M33-6 to Gen D, then D2. All games can be played but when I browse my media (aka music, video, photo) within the xmb, the screen freezes!!!
Then, I downgraded it to M33 and use the decrypted/patched eboot to play the latest games(much easier).
The question is, why does it freezes my xmb when I try to browse my media? Buggy or my bad?!
btw, I updated while all themes set to original and all plugin’s disabled.
use CXMB for 5.5 GEN . And remember also to use the official decrypted prx files of this CFW.
