Bang! Pow! Boom! It’s Team GEN who makes the scene pound; Yoshihiro, GENyUS all around in surround sound. So get up out your seat and put your hands together for Custom Firmware 5.50 GEN-D.

Don’t let the earlier 5.50 GEN-C release scare you now… Quality assurance ensures GEN-D will knock your mismatched socks right off your stankin’ feet. Or at least we hope. Updating now… I’ll keep you posted.
All right, all right… Everything checks out… The install went smoothly; mind you, my settings (flash1) were reset… Perhaps that’s because I updated from the dreaded 5.50 GEN-C. Nonetheless, my games and homebrew continue to work; MotorStorm UMD and others requiring 5.55+ run without any patching… Woot woot.
CFW 5.50 GEN-D Features:
- All features of 5.50 GEN-B2 are available.
- Ability to run 5.51+ games without having to patch them (UMD or ISO).
- Possibility to launch PSN demos requiring 5.51+ without having to patch them (as MGS for example).
- Possibility to connect to the Playstation Store by using MEDIAGO, to retrieve games and goodies without having to install Fake USB or other complicated stuff.
- Possibility to use the XGEN Updater to install the official firmware 6.10 (use it only if you have a Pandora XGEN to be able to return later in Custom firmware)
- 480×272 AVC Videos are supported
The option to accelerate memory stick access is coming… As well an iR Shell patch, I think.

well i’m still on m33 and it’s been fun, but i think it time now to try out GEN. So do i just get this and install it or do i have to get A -> B -> B2 -> D

You can just run the installer and go directly to GEN-D since you already have CFW M33 installed.
There is one thing people must do and that is reset your theme to original before using this updater, worked a treat first time, all my .iso’s worked, so do the PS1 games using POP’s
My UMDs worked also, so far so good.

Works fine ;) MS Speedup ist easy to do: Just run M33 in Test Mode and install the MS Speedup. Reboot and copy fatms371_friend.prx, fm371.prx, PSPBTJNF.BIN, PSPBTKNF.BIN and PSPBTLNF.BIN from the rd folder to your hdd. Boot up PSP with GEN running and select flash1 as usb device. Now copy/replace the copied files from your hdd to the rd folder in flash1. Reboot. Speedup donw ;)
how do u run M33 in Test Mode? i try to do it and it just goes back to the installer, do i need the pbp to be 500?
Cool . working perfectly . Internet working . Patched games work . And everything is awesome. But disable all of your plugins , format flash1 and set the theme to original before updating . PsPtube does work on GenD ,im using it now.. im running in on Irshell (what also works if you run the patch again)

You have never had to sacrifice custom themes. I think what you’re confusing is when they say “go back to default theme before you update”. That’s only for when you’re actually updating. After that’s done, you can always re-load your favorite custom theme.
Is there going to be a 1.50 patch so we can play the emulators and other homebrew programs that need it.
Leda, eLoader, or TimeMachine you could try until then I suppose..

And one thing too is not big diference between speeds in MS in m33 and GEN in my PSP load time is the same. this is some miliseconds is not bigg deal.

I can confirm Opera Mini & Bolt using PSPKVM 0.5.3 OE works perfectly on a WEP security connection, i don’t use WPA security, so unable to test this, sorry guys

Persona doesn’t work on gen D
I was planning on upgrading until this since I don’t upgrade unless there is something useful for me.
This is strange…PERSONA didn’t work on me either. I was using M33 Driver, knowing that this should be the standard driver used. But when I switched to Sony Driver, It suddenly worked.

My 1000 version that was with GEN-C now with GEN-D boots all games i have in Memo syick.
B4 i was having to use the gran turismo as .iso the the game in .cso format wasnt booting.
Now with GEN-D All works very nice, Gr8 Work !!!
Does iR Shell work fine with this? My biggest complaint with Gen C was that I couldn’t boot anything but discs from iR Shell. If iRshell doesn’t work, I’ll wait. Anyone?
Yeah Irshell works fine, you need to run the 5.50gen irshell patch again thou to get rid of the “no disk” message :)

Now I really love GEN, Ive been using their firmware for a long time now, but with GEN-D I think I’m going back to 5.00 M33-6. With the PSN store out on both, and with 5.51+ games already able to be patched for both 5.50 GEN and 5.00 M33, M33 just is a better firmware for me. With GEN-D Remotejoylite 0.20a doesn’t work, Opera Mini Opera Mini 4.2.14912 on PSPKVM 0.5.3 OE doesn’t work, and all homebrew that runs an internet connection looks to be not working. I’m really loving GEN for their fast updates, and there overall GREAT firmware, but sadly there isnt enough improvement for me with just the 5.51+ games for me to lose everything else M33 offers. Keep up the great work GEN, just fix those bugs and I’ll be back in a hurry!!

After testing D I found this out.
Works after patching with IRSHELL GEN-B Patch by Yoshihiro(gets rid of the NO UMD inserted Message) but fails to load Backups unless you have decrypted the eboot for 550 and up games.
Waiting for Yoshihiro to make update Gen-D IRSHELL.
Also really, what a lame splash screen after game boot http://www.pspgen.com Enabled, GTFO.

At least it doesn’t show if the game is already decrypted, make an option not to show it in the vsh menu or just run it one time.

When you open the archive
1)extract 550.PBP to the root of your memstick. Leave EBOOT.PBP in …PSP/GAME/UPDATE.
2)Get the the folder labeled UPDATE (with the eboot inside) into your PSP’s GAME folder however you want.
Disconnect from your computer; turn on your PSP, and update the hell out of it.
HELP! Please? I have Gen-B, trying to update, goes black and then shuts off…If I do a network update, will it do this update automatically? I just want to play Smackdown 2010. Help please???
I think GEN specifically said there won’t be any PSN access in this update, but they said they were working on it. On the other hand, they made it so you can connect your PSP to media go without updating the PSP to 6.10.
Go to theme settings & reset back to original before using this updater, then put 550.pbp on Root of memorystick & UPDATE folder into PSP/GAME folder and go to XMB and run 5.50 Gen D updater
Works perfectly on my Phat 1003 using 5.50 Gen D.
When you shut the PSP down after then you have to re-enter your information like user name & internet information.
Hope this helps people struggling with this. :o)

for online play just remove WPA encryption and its be fine in FIFA but if are you wifi is stolen from you neybars( sorry i dont cnov this word i mean people wo live front of you house) then its must be a problem for you.
BUT NOW i convert and convert and convert and convert and … … . but no video work now in GEN-D with 480×272 AVC for now. i try other converter but is problem is not in the converter.
video paramethers 480×272 / 700 video bitrate /128 audio bitrare /aac for audio / video is try this; h264 , xvid, avc , mpeg4 and not work. i thing his must be a one codec who named h264ACV or AVCMP4 but unfortunely im not remember it. if there anybody have succes with videos PLS tell me the name of the converter mine is total video converter who convert directly withous passes
works fine for me on psp1004. used format factory (awesome freeware, converts from anything to anything, even gif) and then copied the result files to ms0:\VIDEO. 480×272 works fine

Sounds like you installed official firmware 5.50 over the top, as that is the second option on the updater menu.
What type of PSP are you using, if its a Phat 100# model then you will be able to install CFW on top using a Pandora battery & magic memorystick (Google for how to use them).

hey, ive updated my psp to 5.50gen-d, but still none of my 5.51+ games work, i tried naruto.cso, and a few mini’s but they dont load i just get an error, anyone know why? or can they give me there recovary configerations please? Thanks :)
Have you tried changing the type of driver you are using to M33 driver or to Normal, but requires a UMD in the drive? :o)
I think I’m gonna try out GEN, too. I have been an M33 user forever, I only stay with M33 for the plugins and the themes. But access to PSN? Run 5.51+ ISOs without patching? That’s awesome. If I wanna go back, I have a pandora battery with a 3.71 M33 installer.

u might need to change the umd iso driver (m33, sony np) after installation and install the flashplayer & wma cuz some things reset after the install, atleast for me not sure if it goes for everyone

reset your Theme to original then upgrade straight to Gen-D, using the first option in the menu, (DON’T use the second option, as that is for OFW only), don’t worry it works perfectly.

There are two places to disable VSH Menu
One in configurations and one in Plugins, disable both to stop it, in the recovery menu, but why you would want to stop it is beyond me. LOL

Maybe you have the same problem as Ume did, try changing your UMD ISO mode from Normal to M33 or Sony NP9660 in the VSH menu(Press select) or go to the recovery menu and change in the configuration sub menu the UMD ISO mode from normal to M33 or Sonys NP9660.
Either way should cure your problem.

I think I’ll just stick with GEN-B2 myself, until they get the MS speed hack. What I’d really like is PSN access back though, because I do occasionally use Remote Play when I’m away from home.

I own a TA-082 – with CFW GEN-B, copied GEN-D along with 550.PBP onto onto my PSP root diretory, ran the GEN D patch, system shut down okay however did not reboot. I did a cold boot and it booted/started back to CFW GEN-B. What should I be doing diffrently? Thanks
reset your theme first to the original one and then are you saying you are still on Gen B1, if so upgrade to Gen B2 first then onto Gen D, as that is what Yoshihiro says himself to do, in the read me at the beginning of this thread.

Add the speed up for games played off of the mem stick, or I just don’t care. I would rather take 5 minutes to patch a game, than to have it run choppy in CSO. I appreciate what gen does, but this needs to be fixed.

GREAT JOB TEAM GEN!!!!! I’ve been testing 5.50GEN-D on my Aussie PSP1002 w/TA82 mobo for a few hours now. I changed my theme back to the original then installed GEN-D. It installed WITHOUT any problems. I have tried UMD’s that require 5.55+(Rugby League Challenge), ISO’s and CSO’s(Gran Turismo, Astro Boy, Need for Speed Shift, GTA Chinatown Wars-just to name a few) and Emu’s, Plugins, and I just haven’t come across a problem as yet. I don’t use PSN, so it doesn’t worry me if it don’t work. Again, great work TEAM GEN! PROPS!
P.S. The PSP-GO sucks arse! LOL

I never updated my psp since installing the cfw 5.00m33-6 (a friend of mine did that for me). Yesterday i said to myself: Damn, i’m going to update to Gen.
Yoishimiro installer, to flash 5.50 gen-b, then the installer for gen-D. It was as simple as: download, extract to MC (the folders are ready), turn the psp, install. Is it that difficult?

I was waiting for this release! # 34 to download off of here. installed and working great. even got soul calibur to run :-) oh and using media go to transfer movies/music works great (gen b-2 media go said i needed an update) kind of new to the psp homebrew/cfw scene but gen has been a great experience. well worth the download.

hmm after i installed GEN-D read and write speeds where sow i did a flash1 format and rest and now my transfer rate is about 3MB which is still kida slow but acceptable from what i was getting yesterday
Install Booster’s Multi Bootloader.
Setup the pspboot.bin.
Flash a OFW.
From service mode run SilverSpring’s ipl_decrypt(.elf) to obtain the IPL. (It will dump the IPL, but fail to decrypt it.)
Run Booster’s pspboot.bin.
Fill in the blanks as needed.
This may not work, but I uploaded the binaries for you.

ok so i formatted my memory card (official sony one and my 1 gig sony pro duo) reflashed 1, and redownloaded files from a different source. and still the same thing. I have the 5.50 update.PBP in the root and the update folder w eboot.PBP in the game folder. i still cant get this to even start
Re-name the file 5.50 update.PBP to 550.pbp and place on the root of the memorystick, and the other UPDATE folder into PSP/GAME/ folder.
Then try running it in the PSP’s XMB, it should display 5.50 Gen D on the icon.

well guys all you have to do it just drag the 550.pbp and psp folder onto the root of the memory stick. when asked to replaced the psp folder click yes, this won’t actually remove whatever you have inside but just rather add the update folder. Turn on go to games and run the installer.

i’ve got it all up and running. PSN login works over my WEP network, homebrew, PS1, older umd’s and MGS:PW demos work, however I can’t get newer PSN demos and my unpatched GT iso to work.
i’m using the m33 driver and i’ve also tried the np9yadda yadda one. i have however been dicking about in the recovery menu and changing a load of settings.
just wondering if anyone could post a definitive settings list of the recovery menu, including the advanced submenus.

So far i’ve played Obscure, GT4 and Motorstorm with no problems. I’m on a psp-1000, and no bugs ’till now. For the people trying to desable VSH, you need to disable on recovery and on the own menu. But why would someone disable VSH is above me… ;)

Your latest update is great but I’m stuck with my PSP-3000 which I stupidly update it to official firmware 5.50 and since then I am avoiding any update. I have a simple question: is Team GEN working on a custom firmware that will allow me to play ISOs on PSP-3000 with official firmware 5.50 ??
We are not sure at the moment, until a Kernal exploit is found for firmware 6.10 or lower then there are no ways of cracking the 3000 models yet, sadly, as soon as one is found then yes i should think the Gen team will release one to put CFW on all PSP’s. :o)

HOW TO GET IT TO WORK ON 5.50 GEN-B!
First of all, make sure you have CFW 5.50 GEN-B.
Now get into recovery mode > Advanced > Toggle USB (flash0)
Now on your PC, create a text file in notepad and copy/paste the following line:

(NOTE: In notepad this will appear as one line, keep it like that)
Save the text file as call it ”version.txt”
Now, go to Computer > Memory stick (Flash0) > VSH > ETC
Here you will find the version.txt file. Make a backup and then copy the version.txt file you just made there. Overwrite it.
Now, you will ”trick” the game so it thinks you have firmware version 5.55, while you actually have 5.50.

I confirm this too. Can’t install 5.50D from 3.71 M33. So you need to upgrade to 5.0 M33 and then to 5.50.

hi guys i need help b4 i throw my psp at the wall, atm im on 5.50 gen b2 and a TA-081 mobo, now wen i start up the gen d updater it loads up like normal but when i click flahs install gen d it hangs on “extracting PRX” then shuts off and wen i try and use the hellcats recovery flasher to go back to m33 6 it has all these critical errors and aborts the downgrade, plz plz sum1 help me im going insane

The problem was after I restart my Fat 1001, the system information still shows my previous CFW gen b2 (full), but whenever after quit from a game suddenly it turn to gen d2 (full). is that normal? also I still able to launch iR shell with gen b2 update, so which CFW truly running on my psp, gen b2 or d2? When I try and run the updater, I get just a black screen. I’ve tried it plugged in, just on battery, no cables connected – still just sits there. I can still boot to 550-B after a power cycle. Am I suppossed to do C first or something?

I just up graded from m33-6 – gen 1 – gen b – gen b2 and all worked well. I upgraded to gen d and now all I get is a blank black screen. Any ideas and if this is bricked how do I fix it.

Tried installing CFW 5.50 GEN-D on PSP1000 CFW 5.50 GEN-B2.
-Some seconds at 45%, the classic PSP animated gray wallpaper started to look messy, as in some areas from top to near center of the screen.
-The progress bar disappears after several seconds at 45%, and the message “Flashing updater files GenD:” appear to be “flashing” very rapidly.
-For an hour, nothing happens.
-After another 30mins, though I know it’s the dumbest thing to do but what can I do, I turned off the PSP.
So now the PSP won’t turn on… Why am I not surprised, I just killed the PSP during firmware update. I have the feeling I failed to follow something on the “Before you install this CFW, be sure you have:” process…
So I’m asking, what possible solutions you could come up at PSP situations like mine. I’m thinking of a Pandora Battery, but I don’t have spares. Maybe a PSP repair shop would do? I’d like to hear suggestions before I proceed further with my PSP…
