Snes9X Euphoria R2.1: Another PSP Super NES Emulator Released *Updated*
greg | October 19, 2009
Update: Bug fixes, bug fixes, and more bug fixes…
- Bug where you couldn’t have more than 200 roms in the ROMS folder or the emulator would crash is now fixed. (I tested with 800 roms in there)
- Bug where the emulator would freeze then hard-power-off your PSP after trying to load more than 3 roms is now fixed. (I tried loading rom after rom at least 12 times with no issues)
- Bug where you couldn’t return to the menu after running a game is now fixed. (thank god lol)
- Bug where emulator would hard-power-off PSP when exiting rather than return to the Xmb is now fixed (both in file menu and main menu)
- Bug where the emulator wouldn’t start on Gen firmware fixed (tested by myself on 5.50GenC and Cmbeke on 5.50GenB)
- Possible minor speedups from code cleanup.
- Removed the intro screen for now. (will be configurable in the next build)
And if you grabbed R2 elsewhere, please download the new R2.1 release. It fixes another bug when loading a new rom.
Zack dips into the emulation pot and cooks up his own SNES (or Super Nintendo) emulator based off Rukka’s Snes9xTyl recipe. And of course it all stems from Laxer3a and YoyoFR’s work. So props to all involved and to all downloading this fine release.
Personally I’m not finding much difference between this version and the version released last week. We demonstrated Clay Fighter 2 here and in terms of FPS and speed, Snes9X Euphoria R1 pretty much delivers the same bang.
Zack notes –
At the moment you will only see the speedups with the following setting… Renderer: PSP Accelerated, and to get more juice: Frameskip @ 2/3
Download: Snes9X Euphoria R2.1

Perhaps an off topic question Greg, but how do you record these videos on the PSP? They look very good and I’m wondering how you pull that off!
remotejoy lite, http://www.psp-hacks.com/2009/03/15/remotejoylite-v020a-released/
Yeah remotejoylite is sick but Windows Vista wont install unsigned drivers so i cant use it anymore :(
I forgot how I got mine installed before i switched to 7. Have you tried disabling UAC on Vista?
There are Vista tweaks to allow unsigned drivers. Note: http://www.vistax64.com/vista-general/33057-how-do-you-stop-vista-blocking-unsigned-drivers.html
LOL I tested them both, the one about hitting F8 does nothing on my HP laptop but works on my desktop which is IBM, and the one about the registry gave me a BSOD while trying to install the driver!!! But I removed the registry entry and everything works fine again….
Yeah cool videos but no sound? Of course it runs that fast without sound greg. btw how do people record these videos in HD ? PSH ones are HD and with sound. How the F. Do they do that!?
Sound is on – it just isn’t recorded with remotejoy.
It is recorded if you have a mic plugged into the PC, you can also do what I used to do…I had this weird cord with a headphone plug on both ends, one ran from my PSP and one ran to the PC’s mic slot which was really cool. Too bad my cat ate the plug and I upgraded to Vista…
Good idea… I’ll try that next time. I have a cable like that too.
So how do you make a video like this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2c6-KOgCVYk its fast and in HD ?? I wanna do that!
that looks like contra 2 not clayfighter 2
follow the “here” link… Instead of Clay Fighter 2 again I tried Contra 3. Both emus play both roms just fine though.
Greg, At the moment you will only see the speedups with the following settings
Renderer : PSP Accelerated
and to get more juice :
Frameskip @ 2/3
Hm might as well give it a shot.
I wish these devs would put just a little more time into menu appearances and what not.
I have no experience in psp coding but I’ve worked with C++, C#, Visual Basic, Flash Action Sctipt, Autoscript, etc etc, and one of my major concerns is, does what I’m making look decent.
I hate how every emulator on psp is a black screen with some word. Can we not brighten it up a bit? Make screen shots come up next to the text? etc. I mean these things have been out for like 5 years and visually they have seen no improvements.
Don’t get me wrong, I love how people are always updating them and making them run smoother and all, but can we just spend a little time make things a bit more appealing to the eye?
I was thinking about that. If we could go 100% from the xmb and use the game categories plugin. So we run the rom itself from the xmb and the game runs under the emulator.
That’s genius.
So you’d rather have an attractive interface then multiplayer ad-hoc, for instance? How about you make those necessary changes yourself?
You act as though adding a real interface is anywhere along the same lines as adding multiplayer ad-hoc…. An interface could easily be added in a week, only spending like an hour a day max…
When I get some free time and actually look into psp coding maybe I will make myself an interface.
And I could take you statement and throw it right back at you. If you feel that ad-hoc is so necessary, why don’ you add it yourself? hmm…
I was simply remarking on the fact that these emulators have been out since almost as long as the psp, and yet I haven’t seen one that even so much as tried to develop anything other than a list on a black background… And that goes for every homebrew, not just emulators. I find it odd that no developer seems to care if there product looks like crap so long as it works.
The MasterBoy GB/GBC emulator has a very nice GUI. with Icons and everything, when your in a game and open the menu it shows the game as the background
I have no interest in what menus look like, only whether they convey the necessary information and can be used efficiently. Obviously not everyone thinks the same way (but it seems that the emulator devs possibly do).
The emulator has the option to add screenshots so that you can see them when you load a new rom.
There are also options to enable music and backgrounds for you liking. To add more backgrounds, go to the Emu folder then to DATA, then to LOGO and add you backgrounds there.
Note that the names of the backgrounds must go in chronological order (logo1, logo2, logo3, etc.)
on the older emulators it was more graphic beleave it or not. I think it may have been rempved to speed up the games. also donky konk finaly runs good so i can play the SNES version wotch has better graphics than the GBA one.
So in the end is this really worth updating to?
does this work with 5.50 gen-c????
HAAHAH FAIL DUDE TOTAL FAIL but it should
your an idiot. cut your epic failed crap…12 yr olds say that. “FAIL” wow I’m cool.
Actually, you’re the idiot. :)
Is there a pandora battery for the psp go yet? Where do you order them?
Yes you buy them at WalMart right next to the PSP 3000 Pandoras and the PS3 slims with backwards compatibility with all previous gaming consoles including the xbox360
fail
Don’t be an ass dude.
You can buy pandora batterys on multiple site on the net google it. But if you’re talking about buying one from a store you’re better off just making one.
Not for Go you can’t.
Touchè.
I don’t think the battery on the go can even be replaced. And since the TA-88v3s and 3000s haven’t been hacked yet I don’t think cfw will ever be done on the Go either.
What he/she said. The battery is built in as well I think. Not yet at least :(
Hell yes I can play killer instinct smooth right off the back this is faster than the other one sorry other dude. Only prob is the sound quality was down rated 11025HZ Still better than what I had THANKS MAN.
Eh.
This is my face playing this emulator: :-/
It’s definately getting there…
But with the Snes9xtylmecm update just recently released..
This falls under the “too little, too late.” category.
Ok, seriously not seeing the point. I test this one, the one from a couple of days ago, and the one from way the crap back, and I get no improvements at all. everything is more or less the same. Can someone please try coding a simpler emu like ZSNES over? Or at the very least re-write the blasted code instead of using the same snes9x code that’s been on the PsP for years. I am aware of the difficulty compared to other systems in programming a working SNES emulator, but it is not harder than the GBA which works perfectly on the psp… I just wish someone would take a SNES emulator project seriously.
Problem is most people don’t have the intimate knowledge of the architecture to write the hand-coded assembly necessary to get something at the level of ZSNES. Remember that ZSNES has tight, hand-coded x86 assembly loops to improve speed. This also keeps it from being ported to other architectures without massive changes. The only reason it’s on the XBOX is that it’s also x86.
SNES9x is, on the other hand, written in C/C++, and as such is portable. That’s why you see it everywhere. And if I’m not mistaken, the architecture of the SNES is quite a bit trickier than that of the GBA, which is why it’s not as up to speed.

Could somebody give me an outline of what is needed to create a GUI for psp homebrew? or at least answer some questions.
Would I be able to build the GUI on top of the homebrew app itself?
What languages would I need to know?
Recommended programs to build the GUI?
I’m finding myself with way too much time on my hands, and I need something to do. I figure I’ve taken so much from the psp hacking community, it’s time to give back. And I agree that these emus could have some snazzier GUI’s… and it doesn’t seem to be too high on anybody’s priority list.
Forget changing the frame skip and screen size, it looks too choppy.
Instead, switch the Video Output frequency to 33075hz or 44100hz.
Side note: I used psp accel. + accur. soft. game engine for most game play but sometimes you need to change it to see certain graphics in games.(use L + START to switch game engines faster during game play)
Hope this helps.
You mean sound frequency also accel works best for me here.
also to add to my other post:
donkey kong, uniracers, and megaman x ran perfect with the prescribed video settings above just for example.
Kirby Super Star runs nicer >D
R2 was released.
So was R2.1
Serious bug fixes.
Small speed-up.
Check out qj.
I was just about to post that lol.
Yeah got it here: http://pspupdates.qj.net/PSP-homebrew-Snes9X-Euphoria-R2-1/pg/49/aid/135368
:( I was like hell yea a bit faster then I realized the frame skip was on and up. Once I turned it off it went to the same speed, close to. Killer Instinct still plays slow has to be 333 with frame skip around 3 to be playable, I liked the opening to. cant wait for the next one with the option to turn it on.
how well does this work on the slim? also is there a snes emulator that works well on slim other than snes9xtyl0.4.2?
same
Works great on my slim, has no speed/sound/gfx issues at all. Runs the 7-8 ROMs I have right now at full speed.
Jayzen Freeze -
play Killer 7 with this newest version with speedhacks turned on – PSP + ACCUR / FRAMESKIP AUTO.
Runs nearly flawlessly.
It’s nice to see people are finally trying to get SNES emulation working flawlessly. It’s like a few dev’s tried, got it half-working, and then left it for a good 2~3 years.
Its not they left it for 2 or 3 years and got back to it the two devs who made the SNES9xTYL stopped working on it awhile ago, and new devs are editing the open source code and making changes to improve the emulator.
I am using a emulator called snes9xTYL++ from 2007 and it runs all my games fine. I tried this emulator as well I noticed That games like DK country run faster but its seems like every time a new level or something loads it pauses for a sec,I don’t know maybe its just my psp or something but it does this with out any changes in the setting.
Ow! This homebrew has just FORMATED my memorystick! I was playing Super Mario and at certain point i was load a state… Pfffff…
Ok tested on my slim 2000 Works alot better if you have Phat i guess just stick to your old snes emulator if you have a slim go for this one… Back ground to the menu doesn’t work for this emulator i don’t really care just saying…
Does anybody know if Ogre Battle work with this
emu? I tried the other ones, the game played
fine for a little while, then froze and crashed
the PSP. I wonder how well this one performs.
