DOES NOT WORK WITH PSP PHAT

5.50 GEN-B(FULL)

Can anyone confirm this is working on there PHATTIES with the above CFW?

Doesn’t work on mine. It boots up, but when I try to open the ROM directory it hangs then forces a power down.

Works fine on both my PSP-1000 and PSP-2000 with CFW 5.50 GEN-B (Full). The emulators runs smooth and fine. Only tested on one game though which is Zombie Ate My Neighbours.

By the way, this is an awesome release. Nice find and thanks for sharing.

Also, I use the .smc rom which is extracted from a rar/zip. No idea if compressed rar/zip roms would work.

@nyr2k2
Try disabling some of the plugins see if it works. Haven’t got a clue on what’s wrong on your end since it works fine for me. That is if you’re using also 5.50 GEN-B2 (Full). Hope that helps.

I noticed an improvement in some games namely Mario Allstars. My favorite games like yoshi’s island, Donkey Kong country and Tetris attack are still too slow to play though.

It would be nice if someone would make a new emulator from scratch instead of improving on a ported one that’s so flawed. I appreciate any effort towards Snes emulation though. Thanks

2009-10-17 17:24:21

How is Yoshi’s Island too slow to play? It goes to 58 FPS

Comment by Blarg
2009-10-17 14:43:20

snes = 3.5mhz, psp = 333mhz

Why can’t a system roughly 100x more powerful emulate the snes.

Comment by Xarek
2009-10-17 16:27:40

Emulation is much more than just comparing clock speed.

The SNES has some pretty unique hardware. Even games like Super Mario RPG needed to have its own special processor built inside the cartridge in order to run.

The PSP and SNES has completely different hardware, so most calculations have to be done purely by software.

Comment by Chadi
2009-10-17 15:13:36

different hardware dummy (matching mhz to mhz is irrelevant since the cpu, video card and memory is different plus with the fact there is hardware to emulate on the carts themselves such as the superfx… the other things like timing and making it work with the psp hardware which is completely different and because of that some things have to be done in software and not in hardware which makes it allot slower), also asking someone to make snes emu from scratch is stupid as it takes tremendous effort and time to do it, i’d rather have someone port zsnes as its a much better emu

For people who say this emulator is running too slow for them, put frameskip on to 1, after that Mario Kart was running full speed at all times.
Also the games i use are in .zip files, and it works perfect in 5.50 Gen B2.
Not sure why people are having trouble getting this running, but have you tried changing the clock speed in your VSH menu, press Select, i have mine set at 333 mhz on both settings.
in the emulator itself it says its running at 300mhz.
Hope this helps people out. :o)

Anybody know how to cure this? It used to happen to me when I had too many ROMS in the folder, but I fixed that… now, it’s happening again. The only change I made recently was adding the game categories plugin.

Comment by Paradigm
2009-10-19 07:15:39

Try uncategorizing the snes emu.
As in, take it out of a “CAT_ ” folder.
I’ve had that problem before.

Comment by Dean Gullberry
2009-10-20 01:32:52

I tried that (along with disabling ALL plugins) but it didn’t work.

I solved the problem by just removing more needless ROMS from the directory. Strange I had to do that again though, it’s a problem I’ve encountered before and I thought I had solved already… but I did switch to a new memory card that is probably slower (CR5400 adapter) so that was probably the reason.

Comment by Dean Gullberry
2009-10-20 01:35:06

Oh and by the way when switching to using Game Categories you just need to delete the INI file for the emulator so that it will be re-created because it references your previous ROM path. That is probably what caused your problem. Then you can continue using it in your CAT_Emulators folder.

It doesn’t seem way faster than the one I was using before. Super Metroid still doesn’t quite run fullspeed on accurate.

Mortal Kombat 2 now runs better.

Also for noobs to this emu, games that use Mode 7 (the 3D renderer) won’t display properly with the video mode set to “PSP Accelerated”. I have found that “PSP Accelerated + accurate software” is generally the best default mode.

keywords: snes gen-c , snes gen c ,snes not working , macrofire
