PSP Custom Firmware 5.03 GEN-B (for HEN/PSP-3000) Delayed

greg | October 31, 2009

Trick or Treat? PSPGEN decided on “trick” and made a ghost of 5.03 GEN-B for ChickHEN and PSP-3000 owners. Scheduled for release today; however, the GEN team encountered a last minute bug and is now working to correct this. The bug –

This is not a problem with the CFW but a recovery bug. If you remember, the recovery of 5.03GEN-A already had a problem: all option lines were shuffled. The correction of this problem comes with another bug in some options like the “use version.txt” which doesn’t work anymore and prevents the launch of the MGS.

Ah well… Ya win some; ya lose some. Check back tomorrow for a possible evening release. Happy Halloween!

VSH Volume Remap Build No. 1 Released

greg | October 30, 2009

A quick one… If your volume controls are broken, or should you want to remap the vol + and – buttons for whatever reason, then download this simple PSP plugin: Arnold’s VSH Volume Remap.

Arnold quotes –

This plugin allows you to remap your VOLUME buttons to Digital UP and DOWN. This means that you can change the volume of your PSP by pressing UP or DOWN. After you have changed your volume, simply remap back and you can use your PSP like normal again.

See the read me for usage instructions.

CTF Tool GUI v3.1 Released… Several days ago…

greg | October 26, 2009

This one is a bit dated, but while we’re on the subject of PSP theme authoring, I’ll hit ya with another… Check patpat’s CTF Tool GUI v3.1. Break down CTF themes into their respective counterparts (.rco/.prx files), put ZiNgA BuRgA’s Rcomage to work, and then piece ‘em all back together again.

CTF Tool GUI v3.1 Screenshot

CTF Tool GUI v3.1 Changes:

  • Fixed a bug in extracting files from themes 5.03GEN
  • Fixed more bugs related to the function of extracting files from CBC
  • Improved file conversion vshmain.prx
  • Improved file conversion topmenu_plugin.rco
  • Improved file conversion htmlviewer_plugin.prx

Rcomage v1.0.1 Released: Dump, Modify, and Compile PSP RCOs *Updated*

greg | October 26, 2009

Rcomage v1.0.1:

  • fix crash with WAV -> VAG conversion
  • fix sound clipping issues with WAV -> VAG conversion (fix appears to work, but I really haven’t looked at it much)
  • added ability for compile function to read from stdin
  • use \ for directory separators on Windows
  • slight speedup with gimconv (no longer invokes the cmd shell)
  • ‘–xml-only’ switch for dumping removed, use ‘–resdir -’ instead
  • fix bugs relating to handling XML files with resource dumping disabled
  • minor changes to messages
  • GUI will attempt to use relative paths instead of always relying on absolute paths
  • fix folder creation bug in GUI

Returning to the top of the PSP theming game is ZiNgA BuRgA with Rcomage v1.0.0. You have probably seen or used custom PSP themes created with this tool; however, its public release was postponed due to conflicting schedules, you know how it is…

Rcomage Screenshot

ZiNgA notes –

…since this is a bit of a rushed release, there’s a number of “suboptimal” things done here, such as me not really checking stuff (so if you find issues, please report so I can fix). Sanity checking in the code really sucks, so it should be easy to stuff up the program too, but please still report these so that I know where to prioritise checks.

I reckon you should probably report issues via the source link.

It’s also mentioned that Rcomage, some day, will ultimately replace RCO Editor, another tool used for RCO manipulation. So if you wanna get your hands dirty and experiment with PSP theming; I suggest you check RCO Editor out too.

PSPKVM v0.5.4 Released: MIDP/JavaME Apps on your PSP!

greg | October 26, 2009

Over the last week or two you likely saw test builds floating around cyberspace, and now today it’s final: M@x and Sleepper’s PSPKVM v0.5.4. Oh, I should mention Anweifeng and AJ Milne too — they’re new to the PSPKVM team.

PSPKVM is a port of SUN’s phoneME Feature enabling MIDP/JavaME applications on your PlayStation Portable.

Personally I use PSPKVM + Opera Mini instead of the [shitty] PSP NetFront browser. Would you believe ACCESS CO., LTD, the company who authors/maintains NetFront, sicced their lawyers on us for hosting this. That’s some bullshit! Anyway, that’s neither here nor there… Enjoy PSPKVM!

PSP Custom Firmware 5.03 GEN-B Coming Soon… Halloween Day Soon!

greg | October 25, 2009

5.03 GEN-B Updater Icon Attention PSP-3000 owners, or those less fortunate sporting a TA-088v3-enabled 2000; a new custom firmware has been scheduled for release come Halloween day. I’m talking about Team GEN and CFW 5.03 GEN-B.

Considering it’s been awhile I’ll give you a little background; you know, in case you’re new to this… Back in May Team Typhoon released ChickHEN — the homebrew enabler — enabling homebrew on PSP-2000 TA-088v3 and PSP-3000 models running firmware 5.03. Shortly after we witnessed a flurry of CFWEnabler updates from Becus25 and Xenogears, which of course, you guessed it, enabled select custom firmware features — plugins, ISOs, etc. After a few of those, Team GEN showed up, and just like a mother abandoning her newborn, leaves 5.03 GEN-A on the scenes doorstep. Becus25 and Xenogears continued on while GEN focused on other successful endeavours. Now we’re left with today and the future that is Custom Firmware 5.03 GEN-B.

PSP Custom Firmware 5.03 GEN-B will feature:

  • PSP-2000 v3 and PSP-3000 support
  • PS1/PSOne game compatibility
  • Run protected UMDs/backups
  • Run 5.55+ required UMDs/backups
  • GEN VSH MENU
  • Recovery in VSH

In the meantime, get a head start by downloading:

ChickHEN R2

and:

CFWEnabler 3.60 or Custom Firmware 5.03 GEN-A.

Game Categories Revised v8 Released

greg | October 25, 2009

Game Categories Revised v8 —

It’s the same must-have plugin you know and love, only this time, Context Menu Mode has been improved and now displays more than just 4 items. As well, v8 adds the ability to hide the uncategorized category should your homebrew be, well, uncategorized… And if it is, I gotta ask: Hello McFly!? Anybody home? Why are you using this plugin in the first place? That’s a rhetorical question, so whatever the circumstance, enjoy Bubbletune’s Game Categories v8.

Uncategorized ‘brew can be hidden by creating an empty file called “gc_hide_uncategorized.txt” in ms0:/seplugins.

Game Categories v8 Changes:

  • UTF-8 support was not correctly implemented for language files, fixed.
  • Improved Context Menu Mode, now shows a larger number of items instead of only four.
  • Added ability to completely hide uncategorized even if there are files floating around (see readme for instructions).
  • Tried to fix a rather strange crash that occured in all sorts of instances.
