WIP: Game Decrypter: Play 5.55 Games on Custom Firmware 5.03/5.50 GEN

greg | September 29, 2009

Ya’ll know Yoshihiro, right? If not, you will soon… Yoshihiro of Team GENyUS has decrypted the EBOOT for games requiring firmware 5.55. At the moment it’s not released; it’s a work-in-progress… However, tonight is the night – if I’m reading Google Translate correctly…

You will need the original UMD game, MotorStorm has already been tested with 5.03GEN (PSP-3000 & PSP-2000 v3) and 5.50GEN (PSP-2000 & PSP-1000), and you will also need the technical know-how when it comes to generating ISO images using this tool: UMDGen 4.00. The rest will be available/explained later tonight.

Props Yoshihiro, Team GENyUS, and everyone else over at PSP GEN. Much respect.

i’ve been playing dissidia on cfw 3.71 on my slim, i use to run 5.00-6 but my ps1 games didnt work so i switched fw’s. convert the game to an iso to play it, it’s much easier

yo bro, you need the pops pluggins from 3.00 to 5.00 than when you start a psx game you can chouse what FW pops to use and i guarantee it will work, at least all the games i’ve tested have worked 100% some need a little persuasion but thats what google is for. example, have a game that dont work?, google the game name, pops and problems all toghether youll find guids on how to get them to work.

youre wlcome

ps. if you google 5.00 m33 pops plugin package you should get all the plugins i just told you about and a readme on how to chose the correct pops plugin for the game you want to play.

Comment by Facebook User
2009-09-29 16:13:48

Why?

5.00 M33-6 You just put the psx eboot in the game folder. no pops needed.

Comment by alex
2009-09-29 23:16:36

whell actualy your half right the games that work with the 5.00m33 pops Williams run no prob but some games require older pops plugins thats what the package is for when a game wont start you go into the menu by pressing triangle if im not mistaking and choose a different pops FW and it will run. I had problems with musashi, metal gear solid and some others till i got the plugin package. Now its all good.

You need the original umd?? Ok, this is going to be fucking GAY. Just like his PSX emulator- you guys remember that, right?

http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/910

Unless it actually enables users to play games that require a higher firmware than whats installed, (like the mighty devhook did) its useless.

It’s said that way in respect for game devs dipshit.

Considering it mentions making an “ISO”

You need the original umd? I don’t get that. What’s the point if you already have the UMD?

Comment by Cabal
2009-09-29 12:46:36

The point is that the recent games don’t work at all on CFW even if you have the UMD. This will allow people that actually bought the game to play them without switching back to OFW.

Comment by Acid_1
2009-09-29 14:38:24

It means thieves can’t use this, where as the few of us who buy our games get to use it. It’s a great way for developers to say they don’t support piracy.

Comment by Cheesetheif
2009-09-29 15:20:31

It seems that you might be wrong.
Sounds like it modifies the files or something while ripping it from the UMD. That means people can put the “fixed” ISOs on the internet and all you will need is this plugin or whatever to run them.

How would having the original UMD help if youre just going to be editing the ISO in UMDGen? I always thought you cant edit the ISO on the actual UMD.

So i think it just means you need to have an original ISO, not the actual UMD.

I could be wrong tho

Comment by alex
2009-09-29 14:09:01

you, my friend, are absolutley correct. Do to the fact that UMDs are read only, you have to dump yor UMD to iso, edit the iso and play it from memory card.

You’re welcome.

2009-09-29 14:37:01

It’s a start, considering Disgaea 2 alone’s been out nearly 3 or 4 weeks without a workaround. SC was a fluke due to an oversight with an unencrypted file in the Euro version. Nothing else so far has quite worked.. Of course, considering the number of fake patches and rumours of CFW we’ve seen of late, it’s not particularly helpful all round.

Comment by Cheesetheif
2009-09-29 15:22:40

SC was not a fixed ISO. It was a leaked dev version. That’s why it worked with only a little modding.

so if you only need the umd to build the bootable iso then the iso could then be uploaded like any other to newsgroups or am i missing somthing?

is the umd used in the psp to decrypt the iso on memorycard or just to build a iso?

You know there are honest people out there who don’t condone piracy. I mean, downloading one radio song doesn’t matter. Buy the fricken album though if you like their stuff. Same with video games. Go ahead and demo it if you want (I don’t usually), but buy it if you think it’s good.

Nice to see some dev’s really do care about having piracy stopped.

this is better than custom firmware 100% because it means it makes newer games work with existing firmware, well that is works out ok and continue to work with newer games and can get updates to decrypt any new games that require 6.00+ firmware

From the looks of things, it’s just going to be an ISO patch. The “Original required” bit is just GENyUS’s way of telling you to buy the game.

Everybody with the “ew why u make this shit n not cfw 6.00 ur gay” mentality needs to shut up and realize that if it was that easy it probably would have been done already. GENyUS is probably already looking into it, but for now Yoshihiro is working on this as a stopgap fix until there’s a working 6.00 cfw to release.

In short, quit your whining.

Guys…I never really post on these forums. I always just kind of read around and see what’s going on. I just wanted to tell you there is a new strategy to solve the 3000 problem with loading newer firmware and may even work on the go. I am not really much of a homebrew developer, but me and my friends excel in working with c++, java, and linux programming. We have found a way to modify homebrew so the psp doesn’t reject it. Instead of trying to find a glitch in the firmware, we are just making it so the firmware sees the homebrew as “sony approved” and just runs. Hopefully from this we can run cfw enablers for higher firmware (if they are developed indeed and the bullshit fakes stop coming) to run on the psp 3000s. This is still in very early early development, but shoes promise of success. Video in 1 week once tested on psp.

so let me get this straight. with this “fix” i will call it, you can play 5.55 game on 5.50 cfw. the application just edits the EBOOT so that 5.50 will run it. and they said that we must have the umd b/c generally iso’s are just for backups of the umds we own. did i miss anything and is everything in that paragraph correct?

According to comments i’ve read in Japanese…The “Original UMD Required” is just to avoid the legal trouble of him advocating downloading an illegal ISO. After this comes out expect to be able to edit ISOs directly. The original will not be required to be inserted when playing the game.

@Luther
I’ve already done that.
No luck.
Edited the PARAM.SFO to no avail.
It has to be something else.
My guess is…
You need the UMD.
I think there are some deep embedded files that UMDGen can’t even locate.
And that most people would have missed by straight dumping it into an iso.
This probably allows you to either dummy those files, or replace them.
I say it’s a UMDGen patch.
Just a thought.

I’m running custom firmware 5.50GEN B2 on a psp 1001. All games are working Gran Turismo, Motorstorm, Dirt 2, Naruto Shippudden Legends, G.I. Joe-only no audio from people talking, and Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs. If anyone is interseted in getting this game to work. I have a solution to the problem. First you need open up UMD GEN drag the iso over to the program go to the sysdir file find the eboot.bin file, right click and extract the file to the root of your psp. Use the game decrypter program to decrypt the eboot.bin file. Then you goto the UMD GEN and click on file and extract the Filelist.txt out and open up the text file change the 693 to 695, it’s the first line at the top, click save. Copy over the decrypted eboot.bin file to iso you are creating in UMD GEN, then import that Filelist.txt back to the iso and click yes to the next step, copy the iso or cso to your psp. Ok after you load up the game, select new game create the save and play the first level when you get to the end of the level it will freeze up, don’t worry just pull out your battery, and load the game again, it might not work so shut down your psp and load the game again, load your save and the autoload feature will enable and from there your good to go.
Thanks again for all your hard work Yoshihiro.
