PSP Firmware 6.10 Released *Updated*

greg | September 30, 2009

Update: And here it is… PSP Firmware Update 6.10.

Look at Sony acting all cool with their new firmware update… *Razor Ramon’s a toothpick* In our world it’s Yoshihiro and his 5.55/6.00 Games Decrypter. Join us, see what’s up.

But for real, Sony is preppin’ to release their 6.10 firmware update, which is of course aimed towards new PSPgo owners. Check it, from the L-Man himself:

PSP update (v6.10) will be available soon. This is a big update for us in preparation for the launch of PSPgo. New PSPgo owners should make sure to download the update to ensure full compatibility with MediaGo and with all PSP titles. Here are some of the key features we’ll be introducing:

SensMe

SensMe channels is a new music application for PSP that uses Sony’s proprietary 12 Tone Analysis technology to evaluate music tracks that have been imported from Media Go application on your PC to your PSP. The application automatically categorizes the tracks into 12 channels such as “Relax” or “Newly Added”. Check out the walk-thru demo to see how it works.

Yoshihiro’s 5.55 & 6.00 Games Decrypter Released *Updated*

greg | September 29, 2009

Update: Problems? Yoshihiro’s Games Decrypter V2 should solve it. Give Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 a try now. And if you’re experiencing the black screen problem, change the UMD mode. I’ve had much success using the M33 driver.

We told ya… Now prepare yourself for absolute pandemonium… Nevermind PSP Custom Firmware 5.55 or 6.00; Yoshihiro has released his 5.55 and 6.00 Games (EBOOT.BIN) Decrypter.

In short: use this tool to decrypt the firmware 5.55 or 6.00 EBOOT.BIN from whatever [legitimately purchased UMD] game, build an ISO image using UMDGen with the decrypted EBOOT, and botta bing botta boom — you’re playing on Custom Firmware 5.50 GEN-B.

Instructions included.

All right, all right… I picked up my copy of MotorStorm earlier today and here’s the process I took. But first let me tell you about my PSP:

  • 5.50 GEN-B2
  • VshMenu is [currently] disabled; I got my reasons. You can no doubt skip a couple steps if you’re using it.
  • UMD Mode: M33 driver -NO UMD-
  • MotorStorm (US) UMD

The steps:

  1. Install 5.55 & 6.00 Games Decrypter like any other homebrew.
  2. Boot into 5.50 GEN’s recovery console by holding R-TRIGGER on boot.
  3. Go to Configuration -> XMB Usb Device -> change to UMD Disc.
  4. Enable USB mode from the XMB; copy UMD9660.ISO to your local; open UMDGen.
  5. In UMDGen open the UMD9660.ISO file.
  6. Navigate to PSP_GAME/SYSDIR; highlight EBOOT.BIN; right-click -> Extract Selected…
  7. Save it somewhere; boot into the recovery console again (See step 1); set the USB mode back to Memory Stick (See step 2).
  8. Enable USB from the XMB again; copy the encrypted EBOOT.BIN to your memory stick root.
  9. Exit out of USB mode and run the Games Decrypter app.
  10. Enable USB mode one more time.
  11. If you closed UMDGen, reopen it and open UMD9660.ISO; browse to PSP_GAME/SYSDIR.
  12. From the newly created DECRYPTOR directory on your memory stick, drag & drop the unencrypted EBOOT.BIN to the right windowpane in UMDGen overwriting the original file.
  13. Save the ISO; copy it to the ISO directory on your memory stick.
  14. You’re done.

WIP: Game Decrypter: Play 5.55 Games on Custom Firmware 5.03/5.50 GEN

greg | September 29, 2009

Ya’ll know Yoshihiro, right? If not, you will soon… Yoshihiro of Team GENyUS has decrypted the EBOOT for games requiring firmware 5.55. At the moment it’s not released; it’s a work-in-progress… However, tonight is the night – if I’m reading Google Translate correctly…

You will need the original UMD game, MotorStorm has already been tested with 5.03GEN (PSP-3000 & PSP-2000 v3) and 5.50GEN (PSP-2000 & PSP-1000), and you will also need the technical know-how when it comes to generating ISO images using this tool: UMDGen 4.00. The rest will be available/explained later tonight.

Props Yoshihiro, Team GENyUS, and everyone else over at PSP GEN. Much respect.

Video: The PSP Go Stripped Naked

greg | September 28, 2009

The iFixit crew always makes it interesting… Completely disassembled from the outer to the innards with a video slide show wrapped around: Sony’s PSPgo. You may want to keep this bookmarked should the GO get hacked by way of modchip or some other low-level means.

Hum along to this…

All you need is a Phillips #0 Screwdriver. A spudger and some iPod opening tools may come in handy as well; see the source.

PSP CheatUp v0.20 Released *Updated*

greg | September 28, 2009

Update: PSP CheatUp 0.20 is out and should hopefully correct the problems some of you experienced.

  • Added: Application can now be updated from the PSP (Other > Check for Update).
  • Fixed: Crash when showing Gamelist or Changelog if cheat archive has not been downloaded.
  • Fixed: Bug which caused old cheats to be removed even if user says no. Please note that old cheat files will still be overwritten by the new ones, this is meant to prevent nitePR, CMF and coderPR files from being removed if codes don’t exist in the DB.
  • Other: Application now checks to ensure you have downloaded cheat archive before allowing the user to install cheats.
  • Other: The user is now presented with an overwrite message before allowing them to install cheats.
  • Other: If the cheat database is already the same as the one on the server the user will no longer be prompted to update.

Ch-ch-ch-cheat it up with Raing3’s latest… Raing3, whom you may recognize from such EBOOTs as PSP Tool and PSP Action Replay Converter, delivers one more for the homebrew hat trick: PSP CheatUp.

PSP CheatUp Screenshot #1 PSP CheatUp Screenshot #2 PSP CheatUp Screenshot #3 PSP CheatUp Screenshot #4 PSP CheatUp Screenshot #1 PSP CheatUp Screenshot #6

Raing3 sells his app the best –

PSP CheatUp is an application designed to simplify the task of updating the cheat codes through the use of the PSP’s Wifi and a wireless internet connection. Currently the application can automatically detect and install cheats for CheatMaster Fusion, coderPR, CWCheat and NitePR. The cheat files are hosted by GBAtemp.

And there she be… Gid-down.

AVEC V6 Released: Now with 3D Terrain

greg | September 25, 2009

I received my PSP-290 (GPS device) a few days back and I must say, AVEC is pretty bad ass, especially the turn-by-turn navigation business. Now with 3D terrain mode and improved MPI routines, we present: Art’s AVEC V6.

AVEC V6 Screenshot

I’ve been using this site to get my maps; I’m not sure what’s with all the religious POIs in my area. Oh yeah, I also recommend you use the included MP Converter tool; having the PSP do this takes forever.

AVEC V6 Changes:

  • Implemented 3D terrain view mode for topographic maps with two configurable terrain exaggeration levels.
  • Fixed bug present only in user mode version where the grid was not rotating with map while in GPS mode.
  • Removed canvas size option from the configuration menu.
  • Changed position indicator slightly to improve visibility.
  • Added street names to map display at highest zoom level if street names are available in the map file.
  • Fixed zoom routine to ensure highest zoom level is always available.
  • Changed the default GPS mode zoom level to the highest zoom level.
  • Removed delays in image capture routine that were not supposed to be present in any public release.
  • Improved the look and the control of scrolling in the configuration menu.
  • Sound now works in GPS mode for user mode version only. USB GPS routines are running in a dedicated thread.
  • Implemented new compressed mpi file format resulting in faster map file searching and smaller file size.
  • The PSP-290 USB GPS unit can now be plugged in after the user mode version of the program has started.
  • Fixed bug in mpi converter routine. Program would crash if a street name began with an open bracket character.
  • Program no longer adjusts the PSP clock speed. By default, the PSP will run at 222MHz.

Sony Details Their PSPgo UMD “Solution” *Updated*

greg | September 24, 2009

Update: Oh man, maybe it is worse than I thought… Check this out, by way of MCV:

Sony is not currently planning to bring its newly announced PSPgo Rewards scheme to North America. The service was announced yesterday for European territories… An SCEA representative has revealed the company will support both the new handheld and the standard PSP.

“We have a dual platform strategy,” a Sony representative told IGN. “PSPgo is the latest offering in our portable entertainment products targeted for the digitally savvy and early adopters who are looking for an easy way to experience entertainment and a wide variety of digital content.

“We will continue to be committed to our existing PSP users by offering over 16,000 pieces of digital content including games, minis, movies, television shows and SensMe, the new music application as well as UMDs.”

What a bummer. I was looking forward to 3 free games.

My bad… I misunderstood the original cited source.

Let me try this again… Anyone who owns an UMD-supported PSP is entitled to participate in the “PSPgo Rewards” program. First you register your new PSPgo on the PlayStation Network; the program ends March 31st 2010. Once you do that, insert any UMD in the old PSP and log in to PSN. You will then be emailed a promo code redeemable for 3 games of your choice – any 3 from the 17 that is.

That’s all right. It’s certainly better than what I originally thought.

Eurogamer has the complete game list too:

  1. Buzz!: Brain Bender
  2. Buzz!: Master Quiz
  3. Daxter
  4. Echochrome
  5. Everybody’s Golf PSP
  6. Killzone: Liberation
  7. Lemmings PSP
  8. LocoRoco
  9. MediEvil
  10. Patapon
  11. Pursuit Force: Extreme Justice
  12. Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters
  13. Resistance: Retribution
  14. SOCOM: US Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo 3
  15. Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror
  16. Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow
  17. WipEout Pure

Wanna Win a PSPgo? *Updated*

greg | September 24, 2009

Update: All right… We listened, we discussed it, your feedback is important to us, and with that said, we’re opening this competition up to the world. The whole triple W… So wherever you are from, we’ll ship the PSPgo to your door. More below.

Of course you do… Dashhacks ain’t boycottin’ nothin’. We’re giving away 5; count ‘em – that’s 5 PSP GOs. And here’s how to get one:

  1. Follow Dashhacks on Twitter; And while you’re at it, may as well become a Dashhacks Facebook Fan too;
  2. Grab your preferred tools of the trade, get outside, and represent by tagging* Dashhacks somewhere — a filthy bathroom stall, a bridge, by the freeway, out the window down the side of a building, in an alleyway, wherever… The most creative displays of anything Dashhacks related — website URLs, the Dashhacks logo, etc. — will be favoured;
  3. Take a picture, go home, log into Twitter, @dashhacks your masterpiece, and hope for the best.

You will be judged on creativity and pure awesomeness. The first 5 to make us say “shit yeah” win. The rest of you – some of you, those who have entered before the end date – will receive Dashhacks t-shirts. The contest ends as soon as the top 5 are chosen.

Eligibility information: Canadian or United States residents who are 18+ years of age. That’s it.

* Tagging Guidelines / Disclaimer:

  • Please be respectable. Don’t spray paint your neighbour’s house or anything like that. Such entries will be dismissed.
  • Banners, big big banners are accepted. A banner that can be draped over something and removed with ease, something not so permanent. Canvas style. Tag that – put it somewhere. Ya know?
  • Don’t get it twisted: Dashhacks is not promoting and does not promote vandalism. If you get handcuffed, beaten, and dragged away because you were being “creative” somewhere or “crafting” something questionable – that’s on you.

Questions or concerns? Leave a comment.

Homebrew Game: BROX v.3 Released

greg | September 23, 2009

As raveous puts it, “simple and good for busting a few quick minutes.” If that’s the case – you’ll love it. Download, give your frontal lobe a little exercise and figure out raveous’ AI system in the homebrew game of BROX. Ad Hoc or some means of multiplayer would definitely be cool. Maybe that’s a future release.

BROX Screenshot

The objective: Strategically draw lines connecting dots all over the board. Be the one to complete a full box and that’s one (1) point for you. Be the one to box the most boxes and you win.
