[RUMOUR] PSP-4000 in Development; And the UMD is Back?!
greg | August 31, 2009
Just as I tossed all my UMDs in a pile and lit ‘em on fire I stumble across site after site reporting the PSP-4000 is in development, and not only that, it will feature the UMD drive again. This all stems from one anonymous fellow who calls him/herself Super_Secret. But — the real kicker — Super_Secret was bang-fuckin-on when it came to those PS3 Slim rumours and other PS3-related business. So yeah, this could very well be true; I don’t doubt it.
Let me quote:
Who said the 3000 wasn’t being phased out? It will be and sooner than you realise. However, the PSP Go isn’t what’s replacing it. The 4000 is. And yes, it will have a UMD drive. And similar to the PS3 “slim”, it’s nothing to actually get excited about.
Your thoughts?

Comments (52)DOOM Legacy Updated: Play DOOM, DOOM 2, and Heretic in Style!
greg | August 31, 2009
I’ve never seen DOOM look so good; then again, growing up I had an i486SX that was incapable of running DOOM. While all my friends were dialing each other up and fragging one another, I was stuck playing Leisure Suit Larry 5: Passionate Patti Does a Little Undercover Work. Don’t get me wrong, that was still pretty awesome.
Anyway, that’s neither here nor there… This is kgsws’ second release of his DOOM Legacy port. Play DOOM, DOOM 2, or Heretic with new and improved hardware rendering. See info.txt.

What’s new?
- GU (hardware) rendering
- little code cleanup (for example software renderer removed)
- fixed some legacy’s bugs
- removed some things (for example old status bar)
- new bugs added (but i don’t know them yet)

Comments (8)PSP Firmware 6.00 BETA Released to Official Developers
greg | August 29, 2009
Released to legitimate/licensed PSP developers is firmware 6.00 beta. It’s clear Sony has taken the motherly role in protecting their newborn: the PSPgo. PSPGEN, who we all know and trust, shed some light on the 6.00 situation…
Sony has no doubt performed a serious firmware audit plugging all known vulnerabilities — even unpublished kernel exploits — found in the current firmware versions, which of course leaves their new hand-held much harder to hack; or any [newer] PSP that is upgraded to 6.00+ for that matter. Those are the details we know right now. We’ll keep you posted.

Comments (36)OpenBOR Maplevania: A Maplestory Meets Castlevania Beat ‘Em Up Mod
greg | August 27, 2009
One more bona fide OpenBOR mod by none other than NickyP… Maplevania, if you couldn’t guess by the name, is a cross between Maplestory and Castlevania. Choose among 3 available characters — Ethan Belmont, Claus Moriarti, or Amelia Delacroix — and beat the shit out of whoever crosses your path. It’s what OpenBOR is all about.

NickyP quotes –
This was sort of an idea that put itself together over time. I love Castlevania games and always wanted to do something in BOR about it. I love Maplestory’s sprites and always wanted to do something in BOR about it. It wasn’t until one day that a friend of mine showed me a screenshot of Maplestory, one of the players was holding a whip as a weapon. It was then that the light bulb in my head turned on, and Maplevania was born (thanks Rob)! It originally started out as a joke/parody mod, but as development went by I took it more seriously, and in my opinion it turned out pretty well!
Damn well indeed.

Comments (2)DSONPSP BETA 4 + Source Released: Nintendo DS Emulator Updated
greg | August 25, 2009
Update: BETA 4 alongside the [not-so-clean] source code have been released…
- More speed
- Game freeze fixes
Update: OK, so maybe DBZ2 isn’t completely playable at 15 FPS. Certain stages of the game slow down while other screens load and respond rather well. Nonetheless, props Yoshihiro.
It’s getting there all right, slowly but surely… So for the naysayers, the non-believers, and the skeptics crying, “It’ll never be playable because…” Wah wah wah… Like James Bond, never say never (again).
Get a load of this — Yoshihiro’s latest DSONPSP release jamming an FPS increase, from 7 to 15, in Dragon Ball Z: Supersonic Warriors 2, which I believe is the DBZ2 acronym in this BETA 3 change log. I’d say that’s pretty good.
DSONPSP BETA 3 Changes:
- Updated GPU, MMU, DMA, RTC and Branch stuff
- Speed up in DBZ2 to 15fps; old release ran at 7fps
- Updated gfx3d core from DeSmume core 9.4
- Added debug information; give your results when games freeze
- Removed CPU Ratio Hack

Comments (38)PSP Adhoc IM v2 Released: PSP Adhoc Instant Messaging *Updated*
greg | August 24, 2009
Update: qwikrazor87 has shared PSP Adhoc IM v2:
- Added chat rooms (8 rooms).
- Added “buzz” limit to one every 10 seconds. There will be a timer shown when you’ll be able to “buzz” again.
- Changed the coding a little bit and some minor changes to the program.
Lets say you and your hombre are chilling in class, or wherever for that matter, and you’re both sporting PSPs. Some hottie walks past and in attempt to look inconspicuous you motion to your buddy. She sees you, and then you both get slapped out. This all could have been avoided with qwikrazor87’s PSP Adhoc IM. In a stealth-like manner beam a midair message directly to your friend, “Hottie at 6 o’clock. Make a move.” It’s all gravy from there.
