PSPdisp 0.3 Released: Use Your PSP as a Second PC Monitor

greg | July 10, 2009

Take a Windows display and USB driver, an application responsible for capturing, compressing, and sending screen frames with a little homebrew that picks up, decompresses said frames, and displays ‘em… You have the now better-than-ever dual monitor solution utilizing your PSP — that’s JJS’ PSPdisp. Get a load of this…

PSPdisp 0.3 changes…

New features:

  • SideShow driver for Vista and Windows 7
  • Speed improvements / CPU load reduction
  • CPU load reduction (down to 0 % without screen changes) when using the PSPdisp display driver
  • Rotation is now performed on the PSP, no increase in CPU load on the PC
  • Quality and delay settings now customizable through the UI
  • Completely revamped Wlan mode (switched server to the PC, can now recover from a lost connection etc.)
  • Added option to disable display streaming (only transmitting controls)
  • New option to always switch the PSP display to the screen containing the mouse cursor
  • New control file command to display an onscreen keyboard for entering text on the PSP
  • New control file command to display the PSPdisp menu at the current mouse position
  • Added support for the assignment of key combinations to PSP buttons (e.g. ALT+F4 can be mapped to one button)
  • Various settings regarding PSP power saving in USB mode (turning off screen, reducing clock speed, etc. after a user defined idle timeout)
  • PSP clock speed can be configured for Wireless LAN mode (default, 111, 222, 333 MHz)
  • All user defined files (configuration data and control files) now stored in the application data path
  • Experimental audio streaming

Bug fixes:

  • Case of analog stick movements not being registered
  • The two longest delay settings are now clickable
  • “Grab transparent windows” now actually works (only for 480×272 viewport)

Known issues:

  • There are cases where the PSP waits for a Wlan timeout infinitely, making it seem to hang without any message (always fixed by restarting the PSP game, often fixed by turning the Wlan switch off and on again)
  • Audio will stutter if data cannot be transmitted fast enough either because of the network conditions or low PC specs
  • Some applications issue drawing commands without apparent screen changes, in that case there is no CPU load reduction available when using the PSPdisp display driver

(includes Windows installer, drivers, PSP binary, source, etc…)

its finally good enough to replace pspvnc.

now it beats it in just about every way.

(im talking about using it for vnc rather then a pointless display)

Yea but doesn’t it technically just view what’s already on the primary screen? You can’t hide shit with it because it’s already going to be on your fuckin monitor

To fail if you have tried this you will know why its called a 2nd monitor you can expand your 1st monitor. If this app would just be a small port to your primary monitor then this would be useless, Yes?
If you want to expand your screen go do the ff: On your desktop > Right click > (if XP) Properties/ (if vista Personalize) >(if XP) Go to the Display Tab/ (for Vista) Go to the Display Option > the final step is a no-brainer so I expect someone with a decent knowledge of their OS will be able to do.

Im working on a way to change the wifi controller screen from the buttons showing and replacing it with a pc screen!
So all the heavy emulators that the PSP can’t handle will (kind of/ sort of) be portable … at least round the house anyway.

What do ya all think?!!

what ever you doosh
this kinda of homebrew is a gr8 idea
and i think if he gets it working
it will be sick … just think having your ds emulator on your PSP because you can rotate the image 90 degrees so it fits perfect. or even your nulldc emulator or sega saturn haha would be amazing! plus any pc games could be portable.

so don’t talk crap when you don’t even probly no how to make homebrew

Which means no need for PSPTube, the crappy PSP web browser, or any media programs. Im working on photoshop right now from my psp and there is not a big difference from using the computer, also played halo my mapping my own buttons for the psp with the easy button mapping config

You absolutely can use this over the internet, not just over the local area network (somebody asked about this in a previous comment). Just make sure you have ports PSPdisp uses, 17584 and 64506, forwarded on your router, and then connect to your web IP instead of the one that PSPdisp tells you to connect to (your local IP).

I’ve tried it myself, though it is considerably slower and in my opinion unusable, but that may be the fault of my half-assed internet.

hey i made an icon0 for the eboot.pbp if anyone wants it. direct link is here:

http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/8631/pspdispicon0.png

just download PSP Brew, load the eboot.pbp, load the PNG file (from that link above) into the icon0 section and click save. then just replace the eboot.pbp on your PSP with the new one.

Sad you guys are having problems, i had some on x64 xp but then when i went to my 32bit install it works perfect.

Thanks for the icon sirganon!!

It needs analog stick sensitivity support for mouse emulation.
Needs sound stream support for Wifi
Needs to be less laggy.
