Rumour: PSP2 In Development & Features Quad Core Graphics Chip
greg | July 7, 2009
If I’m not mistaken Eurogamer was one of the first to publish rumoured details of the PSPgo — dubbed the PSP-4000 at the time (now modeled the PSP-N1001) — with the PSP2 to follow. So consider what you’re about to read speculation with perhaps a little credibility backing it up…
Eurogamer.es is reporting that PowerVR technology from Imagination Technologies will form the basis of the still-in-development PSP2. The site claims to have insider sources that reckon that a quad core iteration of the low-power SGX543MP chip, codenamed “Hydra”, will be present in the next generation handheld, not to be confused with the forthcoming PSPgo.
The chip itself appears to be very close indeed to the enhanced GPU experts say resides within the iPhone 3GS, providing a generational leap in performance over older PowerVR MBX processors found in the previous models. The same technology is also found in select netbooks such as the Dell Mini 12, as part of the new low power Poulsbo chipset. The single core version of the chip has been demonstrated at CES running Quake 3 Arena at 30FPS.
…
So just how plausible is the original Spanish Eurogamer report? Having shared with us some of the more “off the record” information about the source of the info, it’s a likely proposition, not least because Sony is hotly rumoured to have been the mystery “major international consumer electronics company” mentioned in this press release issued back in November last year.

Yeah that’d be nice but imagine the battery on that thing.
yeah, i just hope by then they’ve already developed a new and improved rechargeable battery. i hope we won’t be using AA/AAA… xDDD j/k haha
what would be really nice is if it used a super capacitor instead of a battery and an OLED screen; unfortunately right now the smallest supper capacitor is about the size of a novel.
now that’s some interesting news worth following.
here we go again
Pretty much
maybe this might be real
Oh and do you think it could run Crysis?
Probably not
Finally a new Psp worthy of being brought instead of that shitty PspGo
What the hell. Sony is coming out with a new model every other year, this is getting ridiculous. I’m not saying that this particular upgrade would be a bad idea but come on, why not include it in the 3000 or Psp-Go.
Because it would reduce the money they would recieve from the other models. It’s all about money, thats all they care about. If they put the best out all at once, they would be making less money than say, making little upgrades like nintendo with the game boy. Its a Real simple matter.
of course its for money. nintendo and MS would do the same thing, but unlike sony they are making profits on their systems, while sony only makes profits off the psp, they are still selling the ps3 at a loss of over $100 per unit, its only logical to milk your biggest cash crop.
they didnt include it in the others because they are all in the same generation. this is not therefore they need more advanced equipment.
i honestly see no real reason to buy a PSPgo. it looks cool and all and im sure for what its worth it will do the job of playing games. that being said, im dissapointed that it didnt have 2 analog sticks this time around and it should have been made a cell phone. thats all i want, a f’ing cell phone that plays good games. not like the failure known as the n’gage from nokia. anyone else fall for that one? id tale a PSPgo cell phone over an iPhone anyday. i hope sony takes the hint with this next gen psp and puts cellular tech in it. is that so much to ask? i dont think so.
word. i’ve been sayin this for years
I personally don’t like the idea of combining a gaming platform with a cellphone, only because I play my portables quite often, I could see draining my battery and then desperately needing my cell.
I do think that it would be nice to have easier tethering for online play, but Sony’s got Adhoc Party (probably trying to sell PS3’s to PSP users), so I kinda doubt that will happen.
I think a phone is a good idea as the go! has bluetooth for headsets.
I think it would be better more for texting/emailing and would be great for internet browsing but sont really needs to upgrade the browser as they havent for years.
Making the browser better would be worth going to ofw again as long as they allow us to use the memory stick for more memory and keep up to date with flash etc.
thats retarded theres no way thats gonna come out
also the guys spanish dont trust him
You are a dumb fucking idiot. DAX is
the only reason I have a PSP. Who was
doing CFW before him? No one!! Dumb ass!!
DAX is spanish, if you have custom firmware than you, my friend are an idiot.
When was the last time that you heard anything from DAX?
DAX pretty much started the CFW scene, doesn’t matter the last time he put out a FW update.
I’m still running 5.00m33-6 and have no itention on using any gen firmwares.
Last tuesday he was at the local club
DAX has exams, lay off.
