MegaMan: The Power War Episode 1

greg | July 28, 2009

MegaMan The more mods, the merrier — especially this one… Today it’s all about NickyP and his new MegaMan inspired OpenBOR mod.

Inspired by the 8-bit Nintendo era and the Power Battle/Fighters arcade classic comes The Power War Episode 1. Here, let me quote Nick –

My idea for this mod was inspired by the MegaMan: Power Battle/Fighters games for the arcade. I had always wished they were 3 or 4 players instead of 2, so the original plan was to just make a remake of Power Battle/Fighters and have 4 player support. However, my love for everything 8-bit kicked in, and that’s when I decided I would instead remake all of the NES MegaMan games, with Power Battle/Fighters inspired gameplay. The result is, well, what you’re about to play in a few minutes!

iR Shell Patch for CFWEnabler (CFWE) Released

greg | July 27, 2009

Released by bosshunter — for all the CFWEnablers out there — a patch facilitating ISO/PSX support as well as improved iR Shell stability. There are a few things you should note first –

  1. The full extent of this patch only works on firmware 5.03 with CFWE 3.50 and below. CFWE 3.60 fails loading PSX titles while ISOs continue working just fine. So use accordingly.
  2. Use at your own risk; this patch touches a file in flash0 that’s installed by CFWE.
  3. If something goes wrong while the PRX patches the necessary files, reinstall CFWE and try again.

What to do?

  1. Make sure you have:
    • iR Shell 5.0 installed;
    • A fresh install of CFWE;
    • The plugins loaded by game.txt are disabled;
    • Replaced the IRSHELL folder with the one provided.
  2. Run iR Shell.
  3. Open Directory View and go to ms0:/IRSHELL/PATCH/5.03/.
  4. Run btcnfpatch.prx.
  5. Follow the onscreen instructions.
  6. Wait a few seconds. You should see the screenshot above if it’s successful.
  7. Re-enable your game.txt plugins.

Custom Firmware 5.50 GEN users — expect a patch soon.

PSN License Manager 0.22 Released

greg | July 27, 2009

Too small to mention, but let me mention — Light_AleX’s PSN License Manager 0.22. We covered this awhile back and considering the changes aren’t anything major, I’ll simply repeat myself –

Use PSN License Manager to swap in and out licenses eliminating the need to deactivate/reactivate your hand-held; you know, when purchasing PSN goodies from different regions and such. PSN License Manager incorporates a “slot” system (up to 30) allowing multiple licenses to be saved in designated slots.

Don’t get the wrong idea now — PSN License Manager is not intended for distributing and/or using illegitimate licenses. It won’t happen. See the readme for usage instructions.

LuaPlayer Euphoria V5 Released: Ogg & Dialogue Support + More Speed

greg | July 26, 2009

Returning from a short hiatus is developer Zack with another new and improved version of LuaPlayer Euphoria. Any homebrew developer using Lua as their chosen language should definitely step up to V5. Zack notes more updates are around the way.

LuaPlayer Euphoria

LuaPlayer Euphoria V5:

System

  • System.dialogue(STRING, OPTIONS) – Brings up the Sony Message Dialogue window with your text
  • System.about() — Shows the LuaPlayer Euphoria version, credits and info (using Sony message dialogue system)

Ogg support/playback

  • Ogg.init() — Initialize the Ogg System.
  • Ogg.load(filename) — Load a Ogg.
  • Ogg.play() — Play a Ogg.
  • Ogg.stop() — Stop a Ogg.
  • Ogg.pause() — Pause a Ogg.
  • Ogg.kill() — Stop and Free a Ogg.
  • Ogg.free() — Free a Ogg.
  • Ogg.endOfStream() — Get the end of a Ogg (ie . if Ogg.endOfStream == 1 then).
  • Ogg.getTime(string) — Retrive the current play time position of the Ogg.

MP3

  • “end” is a reserved keyword in Lua, so Mp3.end() would never have worked… It is now: Mp3.kill()

Other

  • Uses IntraFont By BenHur.
  • Speedup: about 8>10fps – according to my testers (Thanks Osgeld and Cmbeke!)

Kitten Cannon Ca$h Tournament v1.0 Released: Win Money by Playing and Scoring High!

greg | July 24, 2009

You gotta make that, take that with SG57’s latest — Kitten Cannon Ca$h Tournament. I’m talking cash money for simply catapulting fuzzy felines as far as you can.

Kitten Cannon

It works like this: You buy into a tournament for $1.00 via credit card, PayPal, or by completing free offers. Hey, it takes money to make money, right? Once you’re in – play Kitten Cannon Ca$h Tournament as much as you want in attempt to rank high on the tournament leaderboards. When the tournament ends, the jackpot is distributed.

I suggest you check out SG57’s site for the finer details.

Kitten Cannon Updates:

  • Added a new Ca$h Tournament system where you can win real money just by scoring high!
  • Added custom MP3 Playback, recursively scans the /MUSIC and /PSP/MUSIC folders. Included is a Default.mp3
  • Switched to intraFont making text fonts much better
  • Upgraded to the SVN version of OSlibmod
  • Small tweaks regarding collision and physics
  • Uses Sony utilities for a smooth and seamless interface
  • Rotation of cannon barrel no longer resets after each launch
  • A lot of small tweaks and fixes I hadn’t caught all those years ago…

Portable Bubble v1.0 Released: A Homebrew Clone of Puzzle Bobble and the Likes

greg | July 23, 2009

Gefa’s got a brand new homebrew… Inspired by Puzzle Bubble Bobble, I think that’s right… And also Rui Barbosa Martins’ pyBubble script, which is a similar clone written in Python, comes 100 levels of ball-blasting goodness — Portable Bubble v1.0.

You can create your own levels too — It’s real simple…

Once you’ve unpacked the Portable Bubble archive, browse to PSP/GAME/PortableBubble/lvls. Take a look at the default_levels.txt file.

Now, to create your own level set, simply create a new text file in the same directory and follow suit using default_levels.txt as a guideline.

The numbers 1 to 7 correspond to the different coloured balls, while the dashes indicate a blank space.

That’s it, that’s all.

JPCSP v0.3 Officially Released: PSP Emulation using Java

greg | July 22, 2009

Happy [belated] birthday Jpcsp! The talented team behind the Java PSP emulation effort has officially shared their latest — Jpcsp v0.3 (REV. 1105). Again, plenty of improvements since their March release have been packed into this one. Check the Google Code project page if you’re interested in the nitty-gritty. Otherwise download Jpcsp 0.3 below and try it out leaving your experience via the comments.

Jpcsp 0.3 Screenshot

I’ll tell you now; many games aren’t functional or playable at all. Some load, some bail immediately. However, a select few — mostly older titles — are in fact playable in a stable state and at a decent speed, like Puzzle Bobble Pocket for example.

greg | July 21, 2009

Always enjoyable — the classic puzzle game of sliding tiles — 15 Puzzle. The numbered tiles are randomly placed when you start. Your job: slide each tile to the left, to the right, up and down, and keep doing that until each and every tile is in ordered sequence from 1 to 15.
