PlayStation Store Blocked on Custom Firmware 5.00 M33; Continues Working on 5.50 GEN-A

So I was reading around the Internet that Custom Firmware 5.00 M33 users were just blocked from accessing the PlayStation Store. Since I have two PSPs I thought I’d check this out for myself… I dug up my old PSP-1000 and upgraded it to 5.00 M33-6 (from 3.90 M33). With that I tried accessing the PSN store and likewise on my PSP-2000, which is already running 5.50 GEN-A.
5.00 M33-6: It’s true. You are now prompted with, “A system software update for the PSP system is required. For update methods, refer to the instructions for the PSP system.” And even with spoofing your version using the ol’ version.txt method — you’re still denied access.
5.50 GEN-A: Keep on… You’re still in business.
Silly move on Sony’s part… Why would you ultimately deny money from custom firmware users? I’ve purchased downloads, still do.

WRONG the store has been updated with the video store and the firmware 5.00 dont have the store build in the firmware. So if u have cfw or ofw below 5.50 u cant use the store without updating.oh yea they rlly want u 2 update and 5.50 gen works the VERY SAMe as Dark alex’s “M33″ so update noobs and fan boys of M33 as there is no other way of using the store without update but if u have a ps3 or u never use the store there is no need to update and if this message offends u, well learn ur FACTS and use more then one web site as ur source
WRONG, a few days ago, even after the video store was added 5.00 M33-6 still worked with the PSP store. The video section didn’t show up, but the game section was still functional. I know cause I was testing the two CFWs in the store using my two PSPs. Now suddenly 5.00 M33-6 doesn’t work. Sony changed how they are doing version checks on the store. Don’t talk shit unless you have first hand knowledge. It makes you look like an ass, ass.
Not sure if it is entirely a video store thing. Us in Europe (UK) don’t have a video store and I’m getting the same message on 5.03 GEN-A on a PSP Brite even with version.txt on 5.51.
i think sony is actually trying to stop the use of chickhenbeing that 5.03 is the only update that you can use it on, sony is trying to get people to update past 5.03 just for this
ya, wtf? I cant get some of my downloads to work now since i reflashed my 5.00 m33-6, and cant re-download them. if ever there was a reason for 5.51 m33, this is it. plz!
Your PSN account is no longer linked to the PSP signing in should fix it but you can’t anymore with m33 firmware.
I told ps2dev.org that they are blocking cfw from the PSP Store. Damn, if they took my damn words for it.

The only reason they block 5.0X fw because of the tiff exploits. 5.50 has a exploit, but sony aren’t much worried about it. Where is Dark_Alex?
HEY they didnt block cfw users only, but also ofw users because the firmware dont have the video store in the firmware.How sneeky of Sony to make the store use-able only to up-to-date firmware users. So they blocked firmware users tht are not using up to date firmware to use the store.Get it? even try 5.00 in ofw. it dont work too

Linux based software? The PS3s default OS is not based off of linux. You can install Linux on the PS3 but it blocks the use of the GPU making it only useful if you are learning how to program for the Cell or doing basic web browsing or other stuff that doesn’t need graphic acceleration.
Yes you can make linux look like the PS3 xmb with some programming but it’s not worth it. You could connect to PSN with linux just like you do on PC but that would only work for PSP titles and I don’t think they made a linux version of the Playstation Downloader.
HEY, if u notice tht when u have ur firmware at 5.00 cfw or ofw it doesnt have the video store and blocked now. And now when u have 5.50 at cfw or ofw it has the video store and since the up-grade it will not let users use the store if there firmware dont have the video store.

As far as I know there is only the “full” version of the GEN CFW and yes that loads ISO files. One last thing where did you learn how to spell? offence??, etc, etc….

this move has a very simple and logical explanation-Sony is tired from patching the PSn to run on 5.00 so they made a simple check for the files in 5.50 that are required for PSN.
Sony thinks in right way why there are updates if there isn’t any point of them and no body use them.

Yeah, that’s a really dumb move on their behalf. I mean they are already in trouble b/c of PS3 sells. If I want a game I want it whether or not I have to pay. But that doesn’t mean I’m gonna give up homebrew and cool themes for the PSN. If they want me to pirate instead of buying their games then I will. Why would I pay if they don’t want me to?

Remote Play via internet with 5.00 M33-6 has been blocked as well. I just tried it with my slim psp. I received the same message as shown in the article.

It affects ALL online games. Including Remoteplay, PSN(ofcourse)And any other online service(I’m not sure about Skype). Just update to 5.50GEN-B.

With this update I can still play my games, I can get onto the web browser….but I cannot access the Playstation store and infrastructure on any of my online games keeps telling me i need to install the update and refer to my manual

well i buy stuff off of psn so not good for me but i can still download the content on my ps3 and transfer it if need be as im not upgrading the psp cfw any time soon.

Sony has not changed anything by doing this. All they have really done is oust all of the 5.00 m33 users. Which means those people will probably upgrade to 5.5X GEN FW.This is a good thing, people will now be a little more up to date with FW while still being able to do/play many of the ISO, CSO, and homebrew games they have. This does not stop piracy one bit. Kudos to Sony for making people like me upgrade to the newer and better.

Shame, I have custom firmware, now that I have my credit card I was going to purchase the games that i liked and especially for DLC (rockband unplugged).
Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee 2 still works online. Also the store can still be accessed with MediaGo if you use the usbversion plugin set to 5.51. So what we’re missing now is online play with most titles and remote play from the internet.
Don’t blast me if this has already been said cos i couldn’t be bothered reading throught the entire thread, but if you have a ps3 why not just download what you want, lets say ff7(glitch-free as i did yesterday)and connect your psp via usb and copy it over? Now i can FINALLY get past the first battle ;D

I tried this and it works. I am running 5.00 m33-4 and was able to connect to the PSN store and play Final Fantasy VII that I purchased. Before it wouldn’t load and said I needed to update to version 5.50. So no need to get all worked up.
I tried this and I still get the update error, even tried changing string to 5.51 still denies me :(
Maybe Sony just prefer the GEN Firmwares to the M33 ones… lol
