PSP Firmware 5.50 Savegame Vulnerability Found; Exploit Released

Perhaps this is the reason behind Sony issuing PSP Firmware Update 5.51… A German developer who goes by the name of Miche2245 has discovered a Save Game vulnerability in PSP Firmware 5.50. Currently the Japanese version of Monster Hunter Freedom 2 and the English version of Need for Speed: Underground work.
The exploit you may download below is for Monster Hunter 2. Once executed by loading the save game you can then utilize ChickHEN — the homebrew enabler — under PSP Firmware 5.50.

Yes, you would in fact have to buy either of the 2 games to use this exploit.
I had to ebay around for a unpatched original copy of gta liberty city stories to be the only way of hacking my psp back in the day.

yea i used the gta exploit also but i didnt have 2 ebay for it i bought the game w/o knowing about the exploit until my friend got me into it
Need for speed is an EA game right? would EA do a re-release of that game to patch the exploit like Rockstar did with Liberty City. I think the company that made Lumines did the same thing and released a patched version of the game.

mhmm, these odd chances of figuring out stuff like this always amazes me, i wonder if it’ll work for 5.51 the exploit may still exist, since the original post about the updates seem purely speculative

You don’t need this if you have the ability to backup your games. How would you use this on a OFW PSP? You can’t run isos.

I think what they are saying is that it is regular ChickHen R2, but it now works on 5.50 ofw with this new savegame exploit. so just download chickhen r2 and read the readme inside of it.
and if you dont have mh2 JAP, then look for it on ebay lol
It has too many steps for launch homebrew or play a back-up if possible.
Open PSP
Launch UMD
Use Exploit Save
Then use HEN
Then apply or activate CFE
I think someone’ll make a new exploit without UMD.

Augh this sucks. One of the switches for the UMD drive on my PSP 3000 broke, so I have to send it in to get it fixed. However, they’re going to upgrade it to an unhackable firmware. I guess I’ll just download copies of all the games I have and load via ISO forever now.

I checked with hex editor. In MHP2 savegame folder hw.bin is same as h.bin file which is used for ChickHEN R2.Maybe it can be apply to another UMDs.But I dont know how.
Ah man, I can’t wait till there’s an exploit found for 5.51 OFW, I got a used blue 2000 with it. I’ll probably be waiting awhile till it happens though

Unlucky no, uninformed yes. Whoever updated that PSP had no friggin clue what he/she was doing and now pays the dredful price of patience. Patience is a virtue after all. ;)
Nice find, but they should have only released an exploit for the more popular game, and kept the other a secret. Then once that gets patched, release the next one. On the off chance Sony patches both, still release the second one so at least those who didn’t update can use it.
Take a lesson from the Wii guys. Find several exploits, release one at a time as existing ones get patched.

Hope this works with other UMDs. I got 4 UMDs (Fifa 07, Nba 07, Moh and Vice City) but none of them is suitable with this exploit

The chances of an Exploit falling into your lap for a game you already have are very slim, you should just buy the exploitable UMD, it’d be worth it.

Looks like this “hack” is a fake. We haven’t seen anyone comeback and confirm that this works.
Ha! NFS is the only UMD I own. But I really don’t have any need for it… I’d be willing to let it go for say… $100? That seems fair right? lol just kidding I’m not that much of an ass. I’m keeping it. Who knows when one of my dumb friends will buy a 3000.
Wow it really works. I tried this on my psp 3000 with 5.50 ofw. and chickHen r2 works lets you use cfw 3.4 enabler too.

I would just go rent/buy monster hunter 2 to make it work, but above it says it is the japanese version. Will it work with US version? Please help, any input is very appreciated. Thanks

Okay, so I tried this out. I renamed the file accordingly to whatever gamesave(s) I had.
I tried: Raiwnbox Six Vegas and Scarface. Both savegame(s) came back as corrupted data. They did not load.

If you’re running iso’s on your psp then you already have a modded psp. This is supposse to be for those that don’t have a modded or “hacked” psp. IE: Psp with OFW 5.50 and 5.51.

I believe that it’s a fake. I tried on rainbow six simply to see if this “exploit” could work with other games. I tried four different games and none worked. I know it’s for monster hunt but it also said to rename the files accordingly to whatever gamesaves you have. Just testing…that’s all.

5.50 probably has ass loads of vulnerabilities.
Wild Arms for the Ps1 (I bought it on Sony’s store) just crashed as badly as the .tiff exploit did on my nephews psp 2000.
You know funky colors and what not. Seems to happen randomly after battles in an early dungeon.
So yeah I’ll wait before buying any kind of exploitable game.
