Bookr-Mod 20090623 — An Enhanced PDF/DJVU/TXT Reader for the PSP

greg | June 23, 2009

A coder who seemingly goes by the number 2525275 has shared a modified version of Nguyen Chi Tam’s Bookr.

Bookr provides the means of viewing PDF, TXT, PalmDoc, DJVU, and HTML documents on your PSP. The version below is compiled for custom firmware 4.xx/5.xx. Should you need a different version, like 1.50 perhaps, then I would suggest you visit the Google Code project page.

Bookr-Mod Screenshot

Bookr-Mod 20090623:

  • Support much more PDFs (with large images, JPEG2000, JBIG2, AES-encrpted, etc.)
  • Support PDF Outlines
  • Unicode support in PDF, PDF Outlines and file chooser.
  • Some new options to control scroll speed of d-pad and analog stick.
  • A simple thumbnail to indicate current position in page.
  • Zoom in to specified width and position.
  • Bug fixes.

just create a new directory on your memory stick, for example: PSP/GAME/Bookr. Copy the EBOOT.PBP and data.fnt files to that directory you created and launch it from the GAME menu.

Yeah I was using Bookr last night and froze trying to open a .txt both times I tried? Never happened before. Are big files a problem?

I’ve always been a fan of this Homebrew. I love books, and being able to read them on my PSP is a very nice feature.

My god that sounded lame… but still. I’ll have to check this new update out.

Not at all.

Lame is thinking that reading is lame.

Lol.

Well, anyway, I love this homebrew because it allows me to read my PC manual when something screws on the PC. .-.

Have to clarify that this mod is based on the code of the original bookr (hosted on http://sourceforge.net/projects/bookr) instead of Nguyen Chi Tam’s, so it doesn’t support CHM files.

nice to see a proper mod. . . this is actually better than 0.71 and way better than that 8.1 garbage.

What’s wrong with 8.1?

I noticed that is very slow and choppy (8.1).

I love this mod to bookr. The addition of outlines is awesome. I was using 8.1 and when ever I would load a pdf with outlines I couldn’t navigate them. NOW I CAN!!! :) This makes navigating my books (mostly howto guides) so much nicer. Thanks a million for this awesome piece of homebrew.

anyone know if this supports slim features? 0.81 did but this is bases on the original 0.7x i believe…glad to see bookr with alot of compat…if this uses slim features, i believe this can be a very invaluable program…

FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bookr the way it was meant to be!

I can open my comics and magazines without any problems, no white screens and freezes like in every other version I used so far!

I can’t thank the developer of this mod enough!!

All the version of Bookr supporting pdf outliner does not support chm.
Actually, I can still live without chm support but pdf outliner feature is a must for me.
Will be nice if there is a Bookr version supporting pdf outliner and chm.
