Custom Firmware 5.50 GEN-A Build 4 Released: CFW for the PSP-1000 & 2000

Take a seat PSP-3000 owners, this time it ain’t all about you… Released for the PSP-1000 (Fat) and PSP-2000 (Slim) is Custom Firmware 5.50 GEN-A Build 4 from PSPGEN’s own GENyUS.
What you need:
- A PSP-1000 or 2000 v1 or v2
- A PSP running CFW 3.52 M33 or higher
What you get:
- All features of Sony’s Official Firmware 5.50
- Launch UMDs / ISOs / CSOs and demos requiring 5.50 or below
- Launch homebrew
- Launch PSOne (POPs) games
- Access to recovery mode (change CPU speed, enable/disable plugins, registry hacks, flash access, etc…)
I just installed 5.50 GEN-A on my Slim and it works beautifully. It’s simple: unzip the archive, copy everything under PSP/GAME/UPDATE to your memory stick, and run the updater from the [GAME] menu.

Wow. Have you not learned from the past dozen or so releases. YOU CAN NOT GO STRAIT TO CUSTOM FIRMWARE FROM STANDARD FIRMWARE!!! you must go through some form of exploit. the latest exploit requires 5.03 or lower. So in other words you are stuck.
WHY DON’T YOU PEOPLE CREATE A OFFICAL FIRMWARE EDITOR SO WHEN THE NEXT UPDATE ROLLS AROUND YOU CAN EDIT THE UPDATE SO IT WILL ENABLE ALL HOMBREW GAMES AND THE UPDATE IS DISGUISED AS A OFFICAL FIRMWARE UPDATE. either that or edit it so SO IT UNPATCHES ALL EXPLOITS!

Update to 5.03 and install ChickHen R2. Then you can use hellcat’s recovery flasher to install any CFW up to 5.00 You don’t need a pandora battery unless you update to OFW past 5.03

Dark alex just isn’t making 5.50 M33, the M33 team is still alive. And technically M33 is still the best firmware out there GEN has problems.
The team is dead for me. The 6.00 is here, and no word from M33, plus they taking their forums and site down.
DAX didnt stop making cfw, he just didnt make 5.50 m33 because its no point in it.

Well i had no issues with 5.00 M33-6 but now i can’t go in the psstore and metal gear sounds funny. I Believe DAX could tyr and get 5.51 m33. that be sweeeettt.
I would have liked it if Dark Alex did make the 5.50, or at least update the 5.00 M33 to include multi folders in the Music folder.
I like GEN firmware, but in this release they’ve got rid of some of the stuff that made 5.02 GEN-A great.
You can’t access recovery via vsh from xmb.
You can’t create a pandora via recovery. You can’t reboot into OFW via recovery.
Option for suspend/reset device have been removed.
cxmb doesn’t seem to work yet either
I hope they’ll make a real CFW

In gamespot.com is few games come up soon and when i open it with UMDGEN i see the update.bin is for 5.02 5.03, its not problem for me, I use the 5.00 m33-6 and games work but whats happen when tekken6 is appear in 26.09 few days after my birthday :) and game is want the latest FW 5.50? We still gonna wait for DAX or what, get a finger in our a**? I’m not mad juts can’t wait :)

All you have to do is use the version.txt file method, and the firmware will spoof whatever version you want. I’m playing FFVII right now on my psp, even though it’s only supposed to work on 5.50 (the version from the psn, I hate screwing around with eboots and crap). There really is no point for M33 to waste time on 5.50.
that’s a nice trick if you dont want to update but it would be nicer if you can teach us how to do it. i remember doing that myself but i guess forgot how to.nways, i would really appreciate it if you could refresh my sleeping brain. ;)

sony has added a new protection to the games that is not fooled by version.txt u need a decrypter and cfw 5.50 gen-b2 for them Naruto shippuden is an example

1. Download Hellcat’s Recovery Flasher 1.6.
2. Run the app from XMB.
3. Make an new flash backup. **you must use the default Sony’s Theme in flash’0!**
4. Install this firmware
5. You didn’t liked it, go back to M33 with your backup **USE HELLCATS APP, DO NOT REFLASH BY YOURSELF!**

I would like to start off by saying that I am a psp 3000 owner. I just wanted to take a sec. to say that I’m happy to see that you 1000 and 2000 users aren’t being forgotten. I’m worried that after the GO! is released 3000 will soon be forgotten about. Hopefully, new homebrews will still be made for the 3000 after Go! is released.

Basically, until a exploit is found in 5.50+ you’re effed. Don’t update, just wait. Exploits are found on older FW’s and updating is just gonna make you wait longer.
Personally, i prefer 5.00m33-6. there’s a lot to be done with the VSH menu, it’s still a little buggy, and honestly, its not that much different from 5.00 apart from the info bar and game search.

- Dark Alex is Spanish (not german or russian)
GENyUS is not a puppet, it is the name of PSPGEN dev TEAM. People inside our team no need to be known because they don’t want to be famous? They works only for the fun and they want to be quiet. “To be happy, stay hidden” is their laws.
- 5.50GEN fake PSN and you don’t need to have any 5.51GEN or hypothetic M33 to connect to PSN. For the movie location or all things coming with PSP Go!, just imagine that Sony will release a new 6.X firmware… If they don’t change anything, 5.50GEN-A can access to PSN without any problem… if Sony change the PSN check, we have to find another solution and we are ready to do that.
- 5.50GEN-A is a major update of Firmware and like time of the 4.01M33 from 5.0M33 utilities need to be updated. CXMB for 5.50GEN is ever released (http://www.pspgen.com/cxmb-custom-firmware-genyus-5-50-gen-actualite-188123.html) and popsloader, categories and add-on 1.50 for psp-1000 are coming
- Since a long time 5.02GEN-A is offer better things than 5.00M33 : Recovery in VSH, pandora functions in recovery, Bypass firmware check for UMD, bypass PSN check, colour patch for slim built-in, categories are in too… etc.
- Like I explain In FAQ, all this functions will be reimplanted in a future update.

I read in your messages that you ask For DA to coming back. It is interessing but just give you a chance and test our CFW (perhaps the 5.02GEN-A if you want to test full possibilities before we put them back in 5.50) and judge yourself… you can be surprised.
Remember that our CFW are not a simple edit and 3.95GEn and 5.02GEN are M33 approuved (make from a full reverse and add functions). 5.50GEN-A is an evolution of 5.02GEN-A done by GENyUS (team PSPGEN) and we proove our value with the 5.03GEN-A FOR HEN (We are the first to make a Custom Firmware on PSP-3000 and we are copied by xenogears and Becus25 for their CFE until 3.20(readme of CFE confirm this : A GENyUS por su módulo del GEN-A – To GENyUS for his modules du GEN-A)

And some users here say that POPS games don’t work.

5.50 Gen CFW bugs I found:
1. Can’t connect to wireless point width 100% signal.
2. when in the game and the baterry led start blink (low power), the game freeze.

this firmware is not what i expected form gen i personally found 5.02 to be far better thab m33 but this release is a large disapointment to me and perhaps the community ill stick with 5.02 untill it is required to upgrade or something cool comes out for it untill then i sit with my disapointment, loathing, and sorow with gen and there blunder

i am experiencing long load times on xmb menu when reading memstick…
i have not tested any of my psx eboots….
some of my homebrew programs do not load, i am looking further into this…
i am still on the fence about this cfw, however i feel that it may hold some surprises after some bugs are ironed out
There appears to be NO problems with ma psp iso or psx eboots as i have tested them oan ma PHAT psp 1004.
my apps and customs themes still work aswell.
some features from the vsh menu are missing though but other than that there is nothing wrong with 5.50 GEN-A.
Give it a try and if you dont like it just pandora back to a m33
The Memory stick read speeds with this release are really slow, at least compared to 5.00m33. i hope that is fixed in the next patch (or in the next m33 release.
I got resident evil directors cut working. First it didnt, then I went to the recovery menu and disabled pops and it loaded fine.

Mine is a PSP-1000, running on 5.50 M33.
I was installing this but when the progress bar goes 99%, it jumps back to 90%, then it crawls again to 99% to repeat the seemingly endless cycle. It takes a very long time. Is this normal? The memory stick LED does not light up anymore. Can I turn it off safely?

are you using the build 3 or 4
because i had no problem installing build 3 on my psp 1000 5.00 m33-6. also build 4 is a fix for psp 2000 slim.
and im not sure about switching off during the install you may need to pandora it again as this might brick your psp if you do turn it off. sorry i cant be much more help you should ask around.

I installed build 3 and 4 with out any problems. It worked well all around for me. It loads a bit slow when going on to the psn store, other than that I have had no problems.

Same question as a lot of people have, I hacked the Wii so decided to try the PSP as Im sick of the slow release of any decent PSN PSOne Games. With the hacks I can put CC or FF games on the PSP.
But I updated to 5.51 so now when i try the custom firmware it says “corrupt data” blah blah..is there anything I can do?

Nothing. You will have to use Pandora, unless you have a PSP-2K /w TA-088v3 or a PSP-3K. Otherwise, don’t upgrade yet. An exploit may be found in the future.

Just a small remark on this firmware, normally I don’t like to post messages online seeing that it can be time consuming, but this firmware doesn’t work I have been updating firmware for a long time and this one did what no other updated had done brick my PSP, have downloaded the file multiple time just in case that for some weird reason it got corrupted but that was not the case , used DC8 to revive the PSP and tried it again and with the same results then went thru DC4, DC5, 6 7 you guys get the idea try it on the PSP Slim Gen1 Gen2 and the old Fat and no luck with the installation… will advise TO NOT use this firmware, only if you are willing to spent some hours trying to make it work…. And then heading back to the faithful reliable 5.00 M33-6. Thx readers for your time.

i downloaded this firmware to my psp and when it was 89% downloaded it said the downloading failed and the psp froze thanks to it my psp does not turn on anymore can anyone help plz?
i was very skeptical about GEN and somehow i decided to give it a try and it bricked my psp i used dc8 to restore it back to 5.00m33-6 so i personally dont recommend GEN ive also heard from other psp owners that this has been bricking their psp’s so i think ima wait on a new m33 update…better safe than sorry xD

Not used my psp in some time, have CFW 3.40 OE-A installed, and looking at upgrading it, but things have gotten a little more complex than it used to be, from what i can tell, i need to install other firmwares before i can just install any 5.xx firmwares? such as i need to like install 3.52 M33-3 then 3.71 then something else?

we already tried to reset to default the system settings… as well as tweak some settings on the M33 recovery but still get the same error over and over again…

I’m not sure whether to upgrade to this firmware version, does it have all games compatibility that 3.90 m33-3 has? as well as the ps1 games? (pops) if it does i would upgrade. I’d rather not upgrade if it doesnt work.

Hey guys i was wondering if you could give me some help. i try running the updater from my psp and it says i need 78% battery at least. the thing is.. i changed my only battery into a pandora battery. and i cant buy a new bat until tomorrow. is it possible to update without a battery? and maybe just use my A/C cable instead? on no.. :(

I successfully installed this to my fat psp and to my friend’s slim but one thing I noticed is that we have different VSH menu. mine is using 5.51 GEN VSH MENU while his is 5.50. my version is higher yet it lacks some functions like ’shutdown device’. why is this? i need it badly cause my switch is getting loose. please help.
