Topping off Sony’s recent 5.03 beat-down with a few more security-shattering blows is another Custom Firmware Enabler release from Xenogears and Becus25. CFWEnabler version 3.01 introduces PSP-3000 support; Enable most, if not all, features of CFW M33 on your PSP-3000. You’ll of course need ChickHEN R2 as well. Grab both below.

This of course won’t work on Firmware 5.50 right? I just bought a PSP 3000 thinking I’d be able to mod it and it’s 5.50. Please tell me I’m not screwed and that there will be a way to downgrade mine.
You’re screwed and there will be no way to downgrade yours. If I were you I’d bring the PSP 3000 back and buy a new one (Don’t buy those in the packs like dexter or resistance, those have newest firmware)
Right, you need firmware 5.03 for ChickHEN to work. Currently there’s no way to downgrade.

uh didnt you read this new release gives 3000 users support to enable custom firmware and run iso/cso backups..the problem could be..(if you are experiencing any) is that you should format your memory card and restore to default settings..tyr enabling ChickHen..(may take countless tries..15 30..1..doesn’t matter) and rune the CfwEnabler 3.01 =]..oh and also make sure no theme is running, you dont have a background.. and nothing in the pictures folder expcept for ChickHen..it should work
brand new psp hadn’t been touched was on 4.03 upgraded to 5.03 with eboot fresh ms out of box and chickhen doesn’t load only the chickhen mod works
It should work, mine was also 4.03 (first released with Daxter package) and update to 5.03, it worked perfectly. I ran into problems too at first when i used 16gb memory stick, it didn’t supoort, and then I switched to 1gb memory stick and worked great at one try.

Ok, ChickHEN is a homebrew enabler not a custom firmware. Because of program like ChickHEN, M33 was possible. ChickHEN(LIKE) programs allowed Homebrew DEVs to access the flash(through some found exploit) and create M33; by editing the modules found on the flash. Note: HEN’s aren’t the only way to create Custom Firmware you can also find hardware exploits like PANDORA.
uhm, let me see if i understood, so the program in this topic is a cfw enabler that makes possible the use of M33 cfw, which has on its base the ChickHEN homebrew enabler… right?
so basically the “real” psp hacking is made here and in the flash exploit that allows the M33 to run, right?
lastly PANDORA is kinda like another cfw enabler, which means PANDORA isn’t the only way, right? i always thought PANDORA was the only way to install a cfw, it’s seems i’m wrong

its perfectly fine. you can use this, but to run this, you need to run the first homebrew enabler. or you’ll get a error in writing vshctrl.

it resets back to 5.03 if you turn it off. if you’re lazy, just put it to sleep and turn it back on whenever needed.

the pop i got working for this…plugins i have problems with myself… to bad it doesn’t have a recovery menu like gen a… works way better for it, as far as plugins go i give it to gen a…. other then that its m33 is great.. thanks for the guys for all there hard work..
Mr. L, make a SEPLUGINS directory on your memory card, place all plugins in it, then create game.txt, vsh.txt, and pops.txt. From there enter in the location of the plugin with a space and either 1 afterwards to enable it or 0 to disable it. (EX: ms0:/seplugins/plugin.prx 1) vsh.txt controls plugins in xmb and system, game.txt controls plugins in games and some homebrew (some homebrew disables plugins to save memory), and pops.txt is for PSX games/the Pops emulator.
Ok so put the .txt files into the SEPLUGINS directory. Check. So now I have two questions: 1) Do I enter the location of the plugin inside the respective .txt file? And 2) Do POPS have plugins that need to be activated as well?

If i understand you correctly your saying that you want it to be 5.50 because it has more features as you said ‘5.03 is a crap in psp 3000′.
Custom firmware enabler allows you to get all the features possible from any future firmwares…..never mind 5.50.
(as they’ll just keep updating it)
If you’re saying that not many have 5.03, so why make it for that, its because it’s the only firmware with a KNOWN exploit, and probably the only one there is going to be which includes an exploit.
But seriously get a grip, i mean its lucky enough that they were able to exploit this, never mind make one for every firmware of your desire.
If you’ve updated it to 5.50 instead of 5.03, its your fault, live with it.
In my opinion i think sony have locked it down now, doubt they’ll be a new exploit, i think it’ll just turn into the unhackable ps3.

be sure ur r2 had 7 picture ..any picture is fine . also be sure u had desktop computer . now download gen a .. extract it , u will see launch me . connect it to ur pc and click launch me . psp 3000. full. drive f,g,,or h etc.. tell me what u are done i will teach u the m33 even i turn off the psp and turn back on still m33

At the current moment in time NO!
There is a possible chance, but very very small that sony will leave bugs in a future firmware update which we can exploit, to run a homebrew enabler. I wouldn’t hold your breath for that to happen though.

1. Extract the CFWEnabler v3.01 to your desktop.
2. Plug in your PSP, go to USB Mode.
3. Open up the PSP folder on your desktop, then open the Game folder, there should be a folder called CFWEnabler.
4. Copy, paste that folder into the Game folder on your psp.
aka: msroot\PSP\Game

In most cases, you probably dont have a umd in the 3000 to load the iso. Other than that, make sure you have a folder named “ISO” (leave out quotations) and make sure it is in the root of the memory stick, a.k.a, the thing where you see a whole bunch of folders after you have clicked removable disk.

Are psp 3001’s in stores being sold with firmware v5.50 yet? I’m planning on buying a psp 3001 this Friday after this CFW breakthrough, and I don’t want to buy a new one and find out HEN won’t work on it.
My ol’ psp phat (That I skipped class and waited in line for on launch day at best buy!) has seen better days, but now it’s just a Frankenstein of it’s former self.

They are being sold in stores, but you will mainly find them in the new ‘game’ packs (resistance etc.)
So your best bet is to buy ‘just’ the psp. I think sony has distributed these, but i’m sure shops will have a few old stock left of the older firmwares. However i’m sure your chances are fairly slim if you go with this option fairly soon =)
By ‘Slim’ i meant that there was a small possibility of you getting the newer 5.50 firmware now.

lol, there’s no evidence that they steal thier work. If they did, then cwfenabler would be a lot more unstable. In fact, it’s more stable than gen-a.

A HUGE Thanks to the PSP Gurus who got this going!
I had some issues at first, but it was my own n00b problems, not the firmware.
!!! IMPORTANT !!!
If you have a new Memory Stick, remember to use the PSP -> System -> Format Memory Stick FIRST
(This creates a full directory structure on the Memory Stick, except for PSP\PHOTOS)
I didn’t do that at first and although no errors occurred, the ChickHEN loaded fine, but the Gen-A didn’t.
After I formatted the Memory Stick, it worked first time like a charm.
1. The Setup procedures are fairly straight-forward.
(read the Readme.txt files)
2. I’ve done it (wrongly) MANY times and the PSP never got bricked/damaged in any way
(So you can’t damamge your unit by trying many times)
3. Only “tricky” part may be the ChickHEN triggering which is affected by timing of the scrolling
(scroll down as each thumbnail loads)
And I agree with tyranasaurus, I’d also like to DONATE something to these guys.

thanks working cool. but facing problem when i am trying to run any downloaded iso or eboot. it can only run my own copied iso (copied from my own umd). all the time iso’s hang at the start time just after or few second after of sony log display. any idea how can i play those downloaded isos ?

i’ve made it for the 3rd try.
1st and 2nd try was not successful. why?
1.i never thought i should copy the whole chickhen folder(including .gif) to ms:/psp/photo. what i did is i just took the .tiff file, copied and pasted it to path mentioned.
2. i forgot to copy h.bin file to root.
btw, if u see the CFWE along with a corrupted file under GAME just delete the UPDATE folder you have previously made and the corrupted file will be gone. Kinda annoying isn’t it?

how come everytime i try to fix the plugins it keeps deleting it from my .txt files either game or vsh? it was running fine before then it became error but after that it all just disappeared so i went to check why it was doing that and realized that the .txt file has been erased,,,, can anyone help please

I’m using 3.10 and CWCheat works fine. But there’s a bug in the way how plugins function on CWFEnabler, even though they all work somehow. Xeongears said they will fix it in the next version.

So you first get chickHen onto your PSP-3000, then run the custom firmware enabler on it (which I don’t know how) and then put the new custom firmware 5.00 Gen-A thing (I think that’s what it’s called) on it and then start playing games, correct?

Can someone please tell me how to update my PSP to 5.03? I’ve never upgraded before. It says to load the firmware file in “PSP/GAME/UPDATE” folder and run it thru XMB. I don’t have that folder on my memory stick so I created it. What do I do from here to get it to update? I tried everything and nothing works. Looked all over the net and there’s no tutorial on this. Only how to upgrade an already hacked PSP. Also, if I have a game with the 5.03 firmware on it, can I use that to upgrade? Thanks in advance to anyone who helps me out with the steps.

If CFW Enabler 3.01 is used on a PSP that means I don’t need the 5.00 Gen-A firmware version thingy right? (that’s what somebody told me)
But I thought the CFW Enabler only enables the PSP to be open to custom firmware…

Guys, so there’s basically two ways to get custom firmware on your PSP:
1. You use the CFW Enabler with chickHEN R2 so then you can download custom firmware of any version onto your PSP like you normally do on a PSP PHAT or PSP 2000…
2. You download ChickHEN R2 then download use the 5.03 GEN-A firmware thing so then you can play iso/csos correct?
By PSP I mean PSP 3000
ISO/Csos thing said in method #2 is also applied in method #1

I have a PSP-3000 which I purchased in Japan about a month ago. It is one of the carnival colors (a new set of PSPs released by Sony in Japan a few months back). I have been trying every single way to hack this thing since I got it. I’ve tried all the different ways to get ChickHen R2 to take, reformatted my memory stick, everything…and it still wont reboot in ChickHen. Anybody know why? Is it because it’s a new Japanese model? I’ve tried probably close to 500 times to get this thing to work. If there are any suggestions, I’d appreciate it.
