PlayStation Store Blocked on Custom Firmware 5.00 M33; Continues Working on 5.50 GEN-A
greg | June 30, 2009
So I was reading around the Internet that Custom Firmware 5.00 M33 users were just blocked from accessing the PlayStation Store. Since I have two PSPs I thought I’d check this out for myself… I dug up my old PSP-1000 and upgraded it to 5.00 M33-6 (from 3.90 M33). With that I tried accessing the PSN store and likewise on my PSP-2000, which is already running 5.50 GEN-A.
5.00 M33-6: It’s true. You are now prompted with, “A system software update for the PSP system is required. For update methods, refer to the instructions for the PSP system.” And even with spoofing your version using the ol’ version.txt method — you’re still denied access.
5.50 GEN-A: Keep on… You’re still in business.
Silly move on Sony’s part… Why would you ultimately deny money from custom firmware users? I’ve purchased downloads, still do.

Comments (9)MusicPRX Mod for CFWE 3.50 Released
greg | June 30, 2009
Allow PSP-Hacks to (re)introduce Music PRX into your lives. This particular version comes from junkfactory and adds one simple feature: a battery power monitor. And for anyone who doesn’t know — Music PRX enables the playback of your own tracks while browsing the XMB or in game.
Music PRX Mod Configuration Options:
- ALARM_PERCENTAGE = 20 (battery percentage to trigger the low battery alarm sound)
- ALARM_SOUND = ms0:/seplugins/lowbat.mp3 (can customize your alarm sound)
- STANDBY_PERCENTAGE = 10 (battery percentage to put the system in standby mode. Set to 10 to put the PSP in standby mode when the battery has 10% power left. Set to zero to disable system standby mode.)
Note: This has only been tested on a PSP-2000 TA-088v3 with Custom Firmware Enabler 3.50 through ChickHEN.

Comments (33)PSP Firmware 5.50 Savegame Vulnerability Found; Exploit Released
greg | June 28, 2009
Perhaps this is the reason behind Sony issuing PSP Firmware Update 5.51… A German developer who goes by the name of Miche2245 has discovered a Save Game vulnerability in PSP Firmware 5.50. Currently the Japanese version of Monster Hunter Freedom 2 and the English version of Need for Speed: Underground work.
The exploit you may download below is for Monster Hunter 2. Once executed by loading the save game you can then utilize ChickHEN — the homebrew enabler — under PSP Firmware 5.50.
Props Miche2245. Nice work.

Comments (22)CXMB for 5.50 GEN Re-Released
greg | June 26, 2009
Apparently this one, released by Matchung, works better than the previous unofficial CXMB for Custom Firmware 5.50 GEN-A. And not only that — it properly lists the themes under the appropriate [Settings] menu as shown in the screenshot below.

Included in the package is CXMB itself and two CTF tools — ctf.exe & unctf.exe — for both decompiling and recompiling CTF themes.

Comments (18)PsJournal BETA 0.1 Released *Updated*
greg | June 24, 2009
Update: TheCraziness1 has issued a quick bug fix –
A small bug was reported with some people not being able to read their entries if they added the second section of text while writing. This bug has been fixed. Enjoy and sorry for the inconvenience.
Keep your innermost darkest and filthiest secrets hidden from those around you with TheCraziness1’s PsJournal. It’s a password protected electronic journal allowing you to keep your memoirs safe and secure, for the most part… It’s not foolproof; the password is stored in the pass.lua file (in plain-text) and can easily be changed if the potential intruder is in the know and has USB access. Nevertheless — it’s worth checking out.

You may also take a gander at ZX-81’s PSPWrite. It’s compatible with an iR Keyboard should you be a homebrew-enabled PSP-1000 (Fat) owner.

Comments (9)BreakOut4PSP v0.7 Released
greg | June 24, 2009
For anyone who just can’t get enough of the classic game of Breakout, here’s another [French] one… Geecko’s BreakOut4PSP stays true to the original Breakout look ‘n feel — bust bricks, collect power-ups… This is Geecko’s first homebrew game, and with that said, it currently lacks a couple things — a scoring system, sound, etc… After all — it’s a work in progress.

We have a few other Breakout clones, in English too; Check ‘em out here.
