Defense Station Portable v2 Released

greg | May 31, 2009

From the PSP to the iPhone, and back to the PSP again, it’s Danzel’s genuinely crafted Defense Station Portable. The objective, it’s simple… Setup shop in the surrounding area, cannons, laser towers, anti-air guns, etc. There’s an impending attack and you’re on the defense. Once you take out each enemy wave, you’ll collect some cash allowing you to buy more and/or upgrade your current weapons.

If you have an iPhone, pick up “Defense Station Touchable” in the App Store.

Sony’s PSP Go Leaked; It’s Real, Check It

greg | May 30, 2009

It’s real all right… Get a load of Sony’s new PSP Go… Engadget has the inside scoop on what’s what –

…it’ll tout 16GB of internal memory, built-in Bluetooth and an undisclosed memory slot. If all goes well, it’ll ship this Fall for a price to be determined, and it’s actually not slated to replace the PSP-3000, as both of ‘em will attempt to live on store shelves harmoniously…

Not only that; some screens and a live action video –

Oh yeah, it’s UMD-less too.

Custom Firmware Enabler v2.10 Released: Now With POPS Support!

greg | May 29, 2009

One for the weekend… Have at it with Xenogears and Becus25’s Custom Firmware Enabler v2.10. Not only will you get the satisfaction of utilizing your UMD backups, you now get POPS (PSOne emulation) support.

And before you ask –
No, ISO/POPS does not work with PSP-3000 models.

How to enable POPS –

  1. Download FW 5.00 and PSARDumper
  2. Start PSARDumper and decrypt the 5.00 EBOOT
  3. Copy “pops.prx” and “popsman.prx” from the F0 directory to your memory stick under PSP/GAME/CFWEnabler/Pops
  4. Enable the option, “Enable Pops Support” from CFWEnabler

Custom Firmware Enabler [translated] changes…

2.10:

  • Fixed a problem when you change settings for the plugins
  • Fixed internal problems
  • Fixed a problem that caused a crash accessing plugins and when no plugins are installed
  • Improved detection of release

2.02:

  • Fixed a bug in the installation of the POPS (The PRX MD5 is different in each PSP, which is why the test works, but not in the other consoles)

2.01:

  • Fixed a bug that did not detect a previous installation (caused that could not be installed above the new version)

2.00:

  • System POPS native activation
  • System configuration Custom Firmware
  • Verification MD5 of files that are installed in flash, if you have not installed either, re-install
  • Nice interface
  • Safety flashes unnecessary
  • Protection from ChickHEN load the Custom Firmware. It is necessary that ChickHEN is in a folder called “ChickHEN” inside PHOTOS or PICTURES
  • Changed version of the system (now shows 5.03 M33)

PSPHUGO v1.3.0: PC Engine/TurboGrafx 16 Emulator Updated

greg | May 29, 2009

Another console I grew up on — NEC’s TurboGrafx 16. Others may remember this console as the PC Engine, whatever the case, it packed serious hours of awesomeness. And just today — ZX-81 delivers a few more hours with PSPHUGO v1.3.0 — a port of the famous Hu-Go emulator running on a variety of platforms.

Bonk's Adventure

PSPHUGO v1.3.0 changes…

  • Audio Track support for CD-ROM (support only MP3 format with stereo 16 bits samples at 22k or 44k rate)
  • CD-ROM TOC file format support.
  • Using TurboRip, ripped CD can now be used directly with PSP-Hugo! See README file for explanations)
  • Increase PSP clock speed when playing mp3 CD tracks
  • Disable sound while saving states & screenshots (to avoid scratchy noise for few seconds)
  • Fix sleep mode issue
  • Replace SDL sound engine by direct PSP audio stuff to improve performances
  • Fix issue when loading more than one CD image
  • New backgrounds

My apologies to Mike D for frying your TG-16 power supply back in the day.

Custom Firmware Enabler v1.0 Released: ISO/UMD Backup Support via ChickHEN

greg | May 25, 2009

I’ve got good news, even more good news, and sadly, some bad news… First, the good stuff: Xenogears and Becus25 have released Custom Firmware Enabler v1.0. This will enable select features — everything but POPs and the recovery console — that are present in most custom firmwares… And yeah, I’m talking ISO (backups of your legitimately owned UMDs) support, baby! Even better: ISOs are working with handhelds sporting the TA-088v3 motherboard. Now onto the bad news… I’m sorry PSP-3000 users — no ISO support for you, not yet anyway.

How to use Custom Firmware Enabler?

  1. Copy the CFWEnabler folder to your ms0:/PSP/GAME/ directory.
  2. Run ChickHEN R2 to enable homebrew.
  3. Start the app called “CFW Loader for ChickHEN”. The first time it will ask you to install the CFW modules to flash0 by pressing circle; then press “X” to start.

With that said, CFW Enabler does in fact write to Flash0. So please exercise caution when using this homebrew; i.e.) Do not turn off your PSP while the modules are flashed.

Cheers Xenogears and Becus25. Nice work.
