yeah not worth the download, like the rest of the releases.

I’m sick of them releasing unfinished and nearly unplayable versions. Release something that works or don’t release it at all.

HA! that’s what i said about the last release. I got flamed for it. i was complaining about it not running at a enjoyable or playable speed. people just got so angry trying to defend the emulator; when in actuality they knew that the emulator sucks. i completely agree with you.

Don’t let anyone here get to you. This is one of the dimmest (except for the devs) communities I’ve ever willfully stuck with. Only THEY would be happy with 1,000 unplayable releases… unless you plan on playing Super Mario 64 a hundred times through.

Well put. Mario has been and will always be the the only game that is emulated with sound and at a decent speed on this emulator. The other games are just a waste of time to try to enjoy playing. the people don’t bother me, they just tell me that there are plenty of games that are playable. when indeed there is only one game that is worth actually playing which is Mario.

I hope you are just listing worthy N64 games cause this emulator can’t run those.

People gave you grief about the fact that your flaming other peoples hard work. The fact that this emu is not fully working yet (imo), as upseting as it may be to some, is really no excuse to smack talk about releases. It’s really easy to complain about not getting exactly what we want all the time but you must understand that with every release we are able to see the progress and who knows maybe even send a helpful tip about the emu (its not like they restrict the source code.. anyway, if your a coder then you can say a few things but if your just another leecher that wants to put your 2 cents on the matter you need to understand, these peeps genarally dont get paid shit for doing these emu’s and such and you should be happy that there doing it at all :/

You can tell because you haven’t paid anything.

I personally think that this is a great emu regardless of the playability of most games apparently. It definitely obvious that much work has been put into this project. I don’t know very much on the side of coding and i won’t until next year, but the amount of progress they have made is much more than i thought(in comparison to the original emu). So, i give kudos to all of the people who helped in the development. Also, the PSP isn’t like a computer which can have 4 logical cores at ~3 GHz(excluding hypertheading) with a 2+ Tflop GPU to take care of the emulation.

Goldeneye will never be playable. I put my money on it.I believe it’s been two years developing this emulator. if they don’t have it now, they’ll never get it. Just being a realist. here comes the angry people trying to defend the emulator.

I still think the PSP has better cpu than N64, why are games still slow at times?

Comment by XGOS
2009-04-20 16:46:30

Because emulating a system (N64) to play games which were not intended to be played on the desired system (PSP) will require more power.

Comment by k'hast
2009-04-20 22:33:06

Okay, obviously you don’t know a thing about emulation.

Let’s give an easy one that has fewer processors, say the Gameboy, which uses a Z80.

Now, to start, obviously the PSP is faster than a 1MHz Z80 processor. Now is the PSP able to understand TASM and implement the command calls? No. So, here is what an emulator does…. it translates the raw data into an interpreter, which if the Z80 command took up 1 processor cycle to complete, the interpreter may take 5-20 cycles to complete the same task emulating the system. Simple, yes?

Now as for the N64, which has a couple dedicated processors for graphics, sound, and the actual game processes…. Each of these processors have to be emulated in real time to make the game playable. So, whereas the 1MHz gameboy might be able to run on the PSP without lag, having a 28MHz processor might be a bit of a hurdle for the PSP’s 333MHz processor…

that is as simple of an explanation as I can possibly give.

Comment by NyghtcrawleR
2009-04-20 14:02:07

Simple. Consoles are built specifically for their hardware. The PSP is not built to optimally play 64 games. Its cpu carries other functions and runs a certain way. The 64 is built specifically. Its the same reason decent computers couldnt/cant run 64 emulators perfectly either. They arent built specifically with that hardware in mind.

2009-04-20 14:17:29

actually pc’s, even older ones, can run n64 games very well. its because of bad or less than perfect rom dumps and the fact that most n64 emulators have some issues that there are problems. a better example would be the sega saturn or the ps2, the former being the best example as pcsx2 still has a lot of work left to be done.

the processors use different architetures and different instruction sets (the instruction set is what tells the processor what to do with the data its given). because the psp and n64 use different instruction sets the hardware and instruction sets, bios, etc. ALL has to be emulated on the psp, and emulation is VERY hardware intensive. for example go try and run an snes emulator on a 133 or 266 mhz win95 machine.

OMG that’d be fun to play Mario Kart with a friend fully emulated with sound over wifi. Remember the non-believers that said N64 emulation on PSP wont get far (0,5 fps)? I think its possible and I believe in the effort of the team. Go for gold!

ok i m using it now i can actually run mario kart, its laggy as hell even with lots of frame skip but its playable, but mario 64 still dies during the snow lv on the first lv of that and on a few other areas but theres progess thank you. also i still hate the creator of this because playing a half working game i loved as a kid makes me go out and buy the original coppy of the game. i already did that for mario 64 lol

starfox works pretty good for me. and i dont mean to flame u guys who insult the emulator but, could you at least encourage them to do better and think they can get it somewat full speed. i mean, it takes alot of work to do what those guys did, and i completly respect them for doing the best they can. so if u think the emulator sucks, then your kinda wrong cuz its currently the best n64 emulator for the psp. and im sure if we give them some time theyll make it.so at least encourage them to do better, or they could just give up work on the emulator completly, cuz all they have to do is just stop and we’d be stuck with no emulator

well this project has been in the works for about 2 years now. and i think they should just give up on the project completely. it’s going no where.

Comment by Zack
2009-04-23 23:16:24

LMAO! Give up on the project? Oh yeah its really going nowhere when before you might be able to get one game to a few FPS and now I can play Super Mario 64 with a 95% framerate of what it should be. It annoyed me that I had no sound, thankfully I have IRshell. I listen to music on IRshell and play my games, I have something to listen to and can play some games nearly full FPS. Devildriver + Super Mario 64 on PSP = Badass!

To get one game running at 95% on a platform as weak as the PSP is quite an accomplishment.
Not that you would know anything about that.
