Hold+ v3.7 Released

greg | April 1, 2009

I missed this one yesterday… Torch’s Hold+ v3.7. Hold+ is the ultimate plugin for any hacked PSP and here’s why:

…the ultimate companion to the PSP’s music player. It adds useful features and gives you TWICE the battery life when used properly.

It does the following when the Hold switch is enabled:

  • Switches off the LCD screen and backlight.
  • Underclocks the CPU to 60MHz
  • The original screen brightness and clock speed are restored when the Hold switch is released.
  • Prevents the PSP from going into suspend mode if you accidentally push the power switch too far when turning off Hold mode.
  • Allows complete operation of the PSP controls with the display turned off.
  • Turns off LEDs in hold mode.
  • While in hold mode, allows the use of Left, Right, LTrigger, RTrigger, Volume and Start buttons, if you hold the Select button first. Useful to skip songs, pause etc.

Get it? Got it? Good. Now onto the changes:

  • Optimized Code.
  • Proper fixed to prevent any chance of accidental suspend when coming out of hold mode due to pushing switch too far.
  • LEDs do not blink every 30 seconds anymore.

Still waiting for the ability to prevent it from changing CPU speed. -_- Only thing stopping it from being one of the most useful plugins available.

Why would stopping it from changing the CPU speed make it more useful? The purpose is to extend the battery life of the psp so you can listen to more music on the go without consuming as much battery life by having the display and backlight on, the led’s on, and the cpu running at max or default. It’s somewhat useless to have all those things running if your not looking at the screen and the psp’s in your pocket while your on the go.

Explain to me how having the CPU speed remain at default would be beneficial to the overall purpose of saving battery life?

BTW readme includes the following, so I guess you change the speed yourself.
Still don’t get why.

Advanced:
If you want to change the clock speed to your own values, you can use a hex editor to change them. The offsets in the file for v3.7 are
0×1234 – CPU
0×1238 – Bus (Should be half the CPU speed or less)

The values should be entered in hexadecimal. The default value for CPU is 3C (60 MHz in decimal) and the default value for Bus is 1E (30 MHz in decimal).

Note that simply using any arbitrary value will not work. You will have to test and see which values for CPU and Bus speed work.

So if I want to go straight to suspend mode from hold, I can’t just flip the switch? Is there an option to disable this?

I was just thinking about this same concept like 2 minutes ago when I was listening to some tunes on my walk home!
Sweet!

Wow. This has by far the best thing I have seen for the psp. I constantly use the psp for music when I go to sleep and every feature listed is a “+” for me. I have turned off my psp so many times by accident. The feature for using the controls while in hold mode is awesome since I use the psp remote when my psp is in hold mode to listen to music.

Downloading now.

Thanks.

i cant seem to get thie working on my PSP im using a PSP Slim with 4.01m33-3
when it says “You can install it in the seplugins folder, and make an entry in VSH.txt. Thus it will be active in the XMB. Its also possible to use it in games by adding it to GAME.txt, but some
games may crash etc., if the CPU is underclocked to such a low value.”

i dont get it when it says make an entry what does this mean>????

i thought it meaant write
ms0:/seplugins/hold.prx
but this didnt work and were am i suppossed to put the HOLD.PRX file>????

I have 5.00 m33-6 cfw. I have been able to enable it in the rm menu but it doesn’t seem to be working. None of the features are working for me. Does anyone think they can help?
