Use your PSP as a PC Status Monitor

greg | March 31, 2009

Do you have a PSP collecting dust somewhere? If so, break out your swiffer duster and get your shine on with developer avi’s handy cross-platform tool: StatusMonitor.

The PC side of things is written in Python while the PSP interface is LUA. And as the screenshot clearly illustrates — you’ll be able to monitor your PC’s resources in the most fashionable of ways.

Oh, and you’ll need the LUA Player too. StatusMonitor is not a compiled PSP EBOOT.

If I want to monitor my pc, I can just do that on the pc. Seems like a waste of time.

you can always use the PSPdisp and use your psp monitor as a second monitor, and then use a pc application to monitor and display your wanted pc status in that second monitor

faster, any kind of stats and more customizable

Actually, you sound far less intelligent than those you are mocking. Though their comments may not have been necessary or tactful, they’re right. The program really isn’t particularly useful as there are already a ton of software level programs you can run on your desktop to monitor your PC and they use a negligible amount of resources.

Except perhaps for the “wow factor,” there’s really no reason to add clutter to your physical desktop by having a PSP permanently connected to it via USB, not to mention having the charging wire connected to the console at all times.

Don’t get me wrong, no harm can ever be done (excluding malware, cheating hacks, and faulty programs) by releasing a program and perhaps someone could build upon this idea so I still thank the creator but as it is right now, it’s really not very useful. Necessity is the mother of invention and this program is an orphan.

All i can say is if you can get some more specs in here, such as room left on C, and transfer rate this will be used by me at least. Great release!

Please make it a compiled eboot … I think more ppl would try it that way … I´m probably not gonna try it as i have to involve LUA player and so forth … Keep all those nice Homebrews coming …

Eiiiiiii

This is very important. Probably this is small stuff, boring and useless, but its with this small steps that preced great leeps on HomeBrews and Developers GOD’s.

Remember:
“Some see things as they are and say why.
I dream things that never were and say why not.” – George Bernard Shaw

Being able to tranfer REAL TIME informacion from a PC (Bios Level info) to a PSP is great acomplishment and can be use for other developers and platforms.

The minimum that USERS/Programers can do is trying to motivate upgrades and sugesting other aplications with this base idea, and this way motivating this Developers to keep on going.

Negative CRITICISM, unlike contructive criticism, is just rubbish and wrong.

Keep on Developing,
Pintvs

I think its a great idea. I’m not likely to use it, because it’s not info I really use (in software either), but it opens up some nice possibilities. Lets see this advanced to give in game info or something – let others access it to show health status and stuff in UT etc. And make it an eboot.

This would be cool if you could trick games into thinking this was a logitech keyboard screen.

i agree with Vague that would be badass if this could emulate the logitech screen. theres so many applications that use that feature.
