Netfront Internet Browser (Beta) – HighMemoryMod By Team P86

greg | March 30, 2009

Need some extra memory for whatever sites you’re frequenting when using the integrated PSP web browser? Well, courtesy of the HighMemoryMod by Team P86, Ardatan has released Netfront Internet Browser, which in its current beta state removes browser memory limitations leaving those extra megabytes available for your surfing experience.

Sound good? It is good. I can tell you pages certainly load a lot faster now. Let us know your experience — leave your feedback below.

u guys are annoying, u guys who’re commenting the first commenter. does it make any of u feel proud, calling out the obvious before anyone else gets to it? i think commenting the first comment’s replaced first commenting as being the worst taboo of looking at the comments. And second. I hope this browser works well. Can this somehow be merged with PSPTube to provide flash videos right from a browser.

2 problems (only one for some people)
1. i can only save files to the root of the memory stick… you cant use anything from there on a psp.
2. that annoying clicking sound when you push a button!!! i’ve done everything in my power to get rid of it but it seems to be in some homebrew now. not that important, but still, i hate it.

For problem #1, get PSP filer. You can move files and stuff around with it on the go.

Opera Mini works much better, it can render pages better and layout doesnt brake. java scripts are supported. and a lot faster even it is run from java emulation. i have been using opera mini instead of the built in browser since.

X2, I officially support your comment (lol).

This is buggy; here is the full bugs list at qj.net release thread:

Files only save to root.
Annoying clicksounds.
If you use the three tabs at same time the PSP will freeze.
And (an good) solution isn’t available at this time.

if I’d were you guys I wouldn’t risk my PSP. But hey it’s yours not mine so please don’t reply to this. Thanx.

i think the built in browser is easyer to get to to look something up than mini opera. i disable flash, java and animation and most pages will load with out the memory error but i cant post comments and it ticks me off. is that cuz java is off? java always trys to redrect me to some bull…. page. mini opera is cool but downloading is really lame. is shows you all thes spots to save to that the psp dosent have and gives an error when you try to save to them. i dont care if root is only spot to save to i just want to know if i can post with this browser. can someone confirm that please

You can, and it’s the EXACT same browser as before, but it uses all ram to speed things up. So I assume you can post on here and other sites.

Pretty damn fast ++ i can tell you that, good stuff, get it outta beta, and try to make it integrated whichin the system if you can, so it wouldnt act as a homebrew.
now that would be even better.

If it wasn’t for me, this would have never been released :D. The truth is; Ardatan made this months ago, but never publicly released it. So yeah..I made him release a new improved version of it :P. Me and JK108 (The maker of Ultimate PSPtube) help ardatan and test it for him.

This can’t do any harm to your PSP since it’s just the normal browser but it uses all your psp’s RAM so the slim would have an advantage.

In ardatans next release he’ll add the functionality to automaticly clear the ram up so you won’t get those messages of running low on memory. It will be a lot faster and ‘might’ completely remove the lag on the mouse and controls.

Please reply to this post to report more improvements that you want in a future release (Keep in mind that we are a bit limited to what we can add since we can only improve the browser itself but not edit it)

Well, if you cold (as you said) trow away the “not enough memory” errors.

And remove the horrible clicksounds somebody said up.

Make the 3 tabs usable.
And make the file saver work! I just can save to root folder!

app works great.

pages load considerably faster.

one problem, psp freezes when i try to close the browser, not to mention the home button does not work at all.

other than that, great release.

by the way:
tested on Japanese PSP 1000; cfw 5.00m33-6; 1.50 addon

this lags so much after laoding a page the menus just become so laggy butt yes the pages do load a lot faster

Comment by Lelouch
2009-04-01 09:33:52

Not sure why it lags, but it’s probably a ram issue. Thus if you could automaticly let it clear the ram for you, this will take away the lag with the menu and mouse. You could use 3 tabs without slower performance, and you won’t get the “Not enough memory” Error anymore (Unless you try to play a flash game which needs more than 32-64mb ram)

I’m not sure yet if Ardatan can fix the way you save files but I do know that the next release will…Blow..your…MIND!!

It works perfectly, my psp has slow internet because i have a verry big amount of hacked software on it so it would go really soon, now its even faster than my psp 3000.

Links is still superior due to the better keyboard ( Grid system keyboard is 9001 times better then the crappy default keyboard ) and interface. It DOES load slightly faster, but a slow\clunky interface renders it useless.

Now if this is made into a full fledged browser with its own interface/ grid system / possible flv support- it will be awesome.
