Tutorial: How to Use Opera Mini on your PSP

greg | March 11, 2009

It’s likely some of you already know of this, while others may not… In any event — check it… Steven_PSN-14 from our forums has shared an insightful tutorial detailing the necessary steps to load and ,8,1 Opera Mini on your PlayStation Portable.

And if you’re still clueless… Opera Mini is a Java ME based web browser designed for mobile devices. With that said, you’ll need PSPKVM and of course a hacked PSP to proceed. So forget the integrated PSP web browser; Opera Mini is where it’s at.

hey save your flaming for somewhere else noob, miriam (helldashx)was a great hacker and deserves as much respect as DAX, this is the reason why he left, because noobs like you and bullsh-t comments, when he was connered and left without a chance you all never backed him, and left him to the firing squad of the net, code a firmware yourself and see how easy it is for you, i know you’ll fail like the rest who’ve tried

So let me get this straight… We’re running a program that runs Java which is slower than C to run a web browser in hopes of it being better than the natively supported browser designed for the specific system and hardware in mind…

Am I the only one who sees something wrong with this picture?

Comment by Adam
2009-03-11 17:38:44

Yeah, what you are missing is that people actually develops great applications for midp 2.0 since the user base is insanely huge.
What you also are missing is that with an easy programming language more time can be spent on perfecting your application.
But if C is the holy grail, write the best web browser yourself.

Yeah and about speed look at jake 2

Nope. I can only imagine how slow this must be. D:

It loads pages way faster than the built in browser and it loads pages that the built in browser can’t such as Engadget. I moved pspkvm to the top of my programs list. I highly recommend this.

With what picture? The one at the top? Haha, I took it for myself with MY PSP and CFE 3.1.
Also, if there is something wrong in the mode to display an thing that’s not my problem, it may be of Opera Mini (optimizes pages for cellphone at any cost).

2009-03-13 11:21:15

In deed, it doesn’t RUN as well as the browser, but since it’s run off the memory stick, you don’t run into those annoying not enough memory and reloads at all. which i would rather be able to search the internet a bit faster and see the whole web page then have to sit and wait for half of it and the web browser just looks good.

my first impression is this is just the stupid opera browser they made for the ds but ehh idk haven’t given it full time yet but ya its still better so far than the ds one

Comment by HyperHacker

The DS version is much slower and less capable since the DS has very little RAM and slow wifi.

Crashes a lot more often than opera mini and controls are weird. It has nice features but Opera mini beats it due to the fact that it doesn’t crash right away.

The memory is still an issue, instead of locking out on you telling you its out of memory, the program itself just freezes. Not better than the default browser but its alright if you just want to try something out. also inputting is a pain.

Everything on the PSP should crash any day, and if you care for the typing there is an option in PSPKVM to use Sony’s OSK.

The good thing about this is if you are using the school’s wifi, operaa bypasses all of the school’s blocks. Can someone test this with megaupload and rapidshare and tell me if you are able to download from there.

man so many off-topic posts here, it really shows that the moderating is lacking anymore here, with that said, i don’t what people are complaining about the opera mini is a fine native browser, with that said you should have a connection rate between 80-100 percent for best loading times, i used this in a 100% environment and everything i did was so good, plus by using this you also won’t get most of those mobile pages anymore by accident (for some reason, some of the more popular websites have been recognizing the psp browser as a mobile browser, when it actually is alot better then that), and netfront is also a good quality standard browser, i don’t know why everyone keeps knocking it because of memory issues this isn’t the browsers fault, but the fact that there is only so much space the browser is aloud to use in the nand (flash), sony is the one who distributes memory how much each sector should get and can use
