50 Million PSPs; 200 Million UMDs Sold

It’s no doubt an interesting matter that the PlayStation Portable has reached the 50 million “sell-in” figure worldwide. As well, there are over 2,000 UMD titles available with sell-in units reaching, count ‘em — that’s 200 million large. Now, how many of those PSPs are hacked, and how many of those UMDs have been ripped to an ISO and copied to a memory stick? Eh, eh… One could wonder…
Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) today announced that the cumulative worldwide sell-in units of PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) handheld entertainment system (PSP-1000, 2000 and 3000 series) reached a total of 50 million units(*1) as of January 2009.
PSP keeps evolving as an innovative handheld entertainment system, offering a wide array of exciting software titles and introducing fun peripherals as well as upgrading features through regular system software updates. Inheriting the basic functions and the design philosophy of PSP-1000, slim and light PSP (PSP-2000) was launched in September 2007, introducing new features such as “Skype” and expanding the joy of PSP from the entertainment arena into the area of communication. In October 2008, SCE introduced PSP-3000 to the world, featuring an advanced high contrast LCD and a built-in microphone, while maintaining the form factors of PSP-2000. Gaining even greater support from a wide range of users worldwide, the world of PSP continues to grow.

I have hacked over 250 PSP’s with the same Pandora (mem.stick and batt.)…I takes me less than 5 minutes lol!…and I do it for free lol!…My first one was GTA LCS it took me over a week just to find the game lol!…I have done every hack possible and never bricked one so far…knock on wood lol!…Viva Dark Alex!
Sony should be thanking dark alex and all the homebrew programmers for all the sales they broght in, if it wasn’t for the hacking community I know alot of people would not have been as interested in the psp. I have had many of my friends so impressed with what it can do hacked that they would go out and buy one and have me hack it for them. So just a suggestion to sony, maybe they should donate to the cause insted causing problems. Kenneth!!!!!!!!!!

That is incorrect what you stated. 50 million is the “sell-in” figure. Not the number sold. There is a massive difference between the two.

woah alot of UMD’s are sold? maybe 97% of them are ripped and share to people around the world
Can anyone answer my question? Would games be more abundant and better if they were downloaded because more people would get paid EXAMPLE psp gt4 mobile

I havn’t heard about it being in a firmware update (but if it is that would be cool). But it’s definately something we’re be able to do through PSP+ on Resistance: Retribution alongside the PS3’s Resistance 2
If this is the case, I can finally play ACE COMBAT X properly ~ which would be great.
