Blind Assistant CFW0005 Released

greg | February 1, 2009

The effort behind Blind Assistant is quite remarkable… You’ve likely seen Filippo’s work on other PSP related websites, but I never took the opportunity to try it out, that’s until now.

This homebrew app is truly a stroke of genius; if you take the time, set it all up, you’ll be amazed at its power. The feature list alone speaks for itself: face and room recognition, optical character recognition, and an integrated colour scanner and email reader.

The download is a hefty one, weighing in at 80MB, and as Filippo says, it’s rather complex. Take your time, read, be patient. Blind Assistant is based on the Nanodesktop technology and uses a server / client setup. That’s all included, as well as a PDF user guide, which explains everything.

So does bakonice count as an accessibility program, since it’d allow a blind person to win at it? LD

Being blind does not always mean being completely unable to see, it could be for the legally blind (People who legally are determined blind, therefore cannot drive, etc…), people having difficulty seeing things, or having trouble reading. Glasses most time cannot help the legally blind. And whether they’re plying a PSP or using a PSP with this tool to help them get around and do activities I think is great.

Good job on this :D.

So in short terms it’s an homebrew app that will tell you whats right in front of you and i guess how many feet away it is?

I have a friend who is an albino. His vision is really bad. (It is a common problem with albinos.)

:P On a side note, he gets a 25% discount on car insurance because of his disability. (one of those wtf deductions. ;) )

That’s why the world is the way it is; because of people like you.

Did your girlfriend dump you for your brother? Did your mom beat you silly in front of all your 30 year old virgin friends? Why are you so angry?

Someone made a possible life changing program. It’s this kind of research that sparks further programs. Don’t hate because you don’t have a PSP.

I wish your ass was blind, and then let’s see you complain like that. Assholes like you take advantage of all the gifts you were given. I hope all of your children are born blind, dumb, and deaf.

Wow! This is really a great concept! I do feel kind of like everyone else, that it seems somewhat useless, but this is the best homebrew we have seen in a while. If everyone else used this technology, we would have even better homebrew. Everyone at Sony is amazed by just the thought of this.

PHASE1…Complete
Ive integrated this into a helmet type peripheral device…along with 2 wiimote’s and their sensors (motion & IR) Ive compiled a few Scripts which make every thing a little more “end user friendly” and finaly connected it to a souped up laptop running glovepie and pspdisplay this is worn strapped to the back of a flack vest.
PHASE2…Incomplete
Integrating Peripheral device with mechanical assistance suit (still has servo/micro actuator issues, but its getting there.

Point being that this program may not be what gamers are looking for. A developer like me can see multiple applications for this app and utilize them.

Use your brains before you comment. To those who cant contribute we don’t want to hear it.Your lucky we release stuff at all for you lazy punks.
