PSP PPG: Portable Program Guide (TV) v0.22

greg | January 30, 2009

Now if only you could program your PVR with this, you’d be laughing, but instead, see what shows you’re missing while out ‘n about with R T’s PSP PPG — the Portable Program/TV Guide for your PlayStation Portable. It’s actually put together quite nicely, ch-ch-check it out…

PPG Screenshot

PPG is a TV guide for the PSP that uses the XMLTV format to generate listings. The original program was developed as homebrew software and is a first class example of what can be achieved by the unsung bedroom programmer (Pay attention Sony).

There’s a PPG tutorial available right here. Learn how to use PPG and generate your own up-to-date listings, otherwise, listings will be generated Sunday and available for download Monday.

PPG comes UK-ready; UK station icons included (unzip ppg-images.zip).

I disagree, if you want to see whats on tv for the next 8 days its quite useful. You dont need a TV/Internet or pc to quickly skim the listing guide.

This would have been awesome back in the 90’s. It’s still cool though, just not useful for me.

no disrespect to the creator cu dos for being an inventor /creator

Actually…for those of us who watch TV in bed and do not have a box on every TV in the house this is a great idea. Two thumbs up, great idea!

I dont understand why everyone is saying this is useless as i for one do not turn on the computer every time i want to see whats on tv

if there was a way for me to see what was on all channels at any time, like in some sort of grid like they do with online tv guides, then i would use this all the time but as you can only view (so i have figured anyway) whats on at whatever the time is. bearing in mind its only an alpha release you need to stop moaning about nothing

its not like you have to be on wifi all the time, just to download the listings at the start of the week

I think there is a misunderstanding here. The application downloads the listing for 8 days, it does not need the internet once this is done as the listings are viewed offline. It works for anywhere in the world that has xmltv listings. I have used it in the states and uk quite a bit. Credit to Seb and Cladil for making it open to so many countries.

I think this is great. The guide is quicker and more descriptive than the one on my freeview box. Also now I can scroll through the TV listings whilst on the loo!

How do you get the English weekdays etc though?

Thanks,
Rich

turn on pc?.. hm i never turn mine off
i always have my pc on at least stand by to do whatever. turning on my pc and going online is still faster than the slow ass web browser.
Duo core OC’d from 3.4 to 4.0
4 Gb ddr 2
nvidia 8600 1 gb

I cannot turn it off. lol

There is a hacked version that has the majority of text “ported” to english. If I get time I will release this sometime next week.

In referance to the comment by greg “Now if only you could program your DVR with this”
There is a little gaget called Location Free player, in essance you couold see what is on then go program your DVR with your PSP.

Location Free Player Rock’s (It’s sony’s version of the Sling box, if not aware)
