Homebrew Idol 2 — in 3D!

greg | January 27, 2009

We’re back! It’s Homebrew Idol 2 all up in this piece — more homebrew & more prizes comin’ comin’ atcha… Last year MK2k took home the Idol top spot, this year — it could be you! Developers, coders, and programmers — this is your time to shine…

Homebrew Idol 2 rules:

  1. Your submission must incorporate 3D rendering, or at least the visual 3D concept (i.e. Ray Casting). We recommend using the LTE Studios Engine or the Raptor 3D Game Engine, or whatever you’re comfortable with.
  2. One (1) entry per user; although, like last season, you may change or submit a new entry at any time, rendering your previous submission null. You may also update your entry as many times necessary before the contest’s end.
  3. You must submit your entry to the PSP Programming Section of our forums with the thread title “[Homebrew Idol 2] <Your Entry>”. As well, email homebrewidol@psp-hacks.com with entry details — name, brief summary of your entry, author, etc…
  4. Source code. You may choose to include your source code for educational purposes; however, it is not mandatory. If you include your source code, remember that you are the sole owner of your code and we will not take possession or use your code without your given permission.
  5. You must include a new PSP-Hacks Homebrew Idol 2 splash screen somewhere in your program — preferably at startup — incorporating the new Dashhacks logo (feel free to change the colour as you see fit).
  6. All entries must be received by 12:00AM EST (midnight) May 31st, 2009.

Now the good stuff; the prizes:

  1. First place winner will be rewarded with $1,000 CAD (Paypal only). That’s right $1,000 bucks courtesy of Dashhacks Inc. and PSDonkey.
  2. Second place will receive a new Xbox 360 donated by Yoko_kyuubi.
  3. Third place prize has yet to be determined and will be updated soon.

Yours truly was the only judge with the power to crown last year; this year things are a little different… Our staff members will be responsible for selecting the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. Homebrew Idol 2 policies and rules are subject to change at any time. We’ll keep you posted should that happen. Until then — good luck and have at’er!

Then why don’t you make one and submit it yourself. Your complaining isn’t productive or helpful to anybody, if you think something needs to change get off your presumably huge ass and do it yourself.

Also I Have A Question When You Do This Can You Put Up A Contest Section Cause That’d Be Cool So It Would Be Easier To Track Down Games

They should make a SSB game. Something fun with possibilities like a sandbox mayhem game. Like postal 2. That would beat everyone!

I completely agree but if someone does that it needs an option for choosing the color order.

I hope this actually brings quality homebrew games. No offense to the community, but other than emulators, I never found any cool homebrew game for the PSP. I hope it’s just because I didn’t look right.

Argh, I got all psyched because I almost got a project done… and now it must be in 3D…

Meh. Can’t do 3D. Might stimulate the use of 3d tho, in the ds scene, games are much more often 3d than they are for PSP.
The only I know of are emu’s, CSPSP, and ports of doom etc.

Any1 know another compo I can enter?

Perfect timing, my app’s just about ready to release. Dunno if it really meets the 3D requirement, but it does have some 3D in it.

Of course I’d have to create a Paypal account if I won… oh well :-p

I would enter this year, but I have not gone as far as learning 3D yet. Anyway, I havent programmed for the psp in quite a while and I am also in the middle of a totally different project. So…… maybe I’ll get around to updating it one day. If i ever get this done.

nice man, i love how you said i have a “presumably huge ass”. Id love it even more if you jumped off a f*ckin roof, you preppy nerd bastard. YOUR comments are the ones that aren’t productive. i was meaning this in a way that if someone made a new updated web browser it would benefit us all. You should get a life… then end it.

The only reason Yoko_kyuubi is donating a 360 is because he’s too damn cheap to give someone a PS3. You kids really need to get one, especially if your not a damn kid and wanna whine about this comment.
