DaedalusX64 Beta 2 Teaser Video

greg | January 21, 2009

There’s been much skepticism over the years concerning N64 emulation, especially that on the PSP. But now, prepare yourself for impact — the DaedalusX64 team has pulled off quite the feat:

Things are indeed shaping up nicely. The beta 2 release is imminent; the team still has some bugs to work out before it’s made official.

Now everyone sing — what what, in the nonbeliever’s butt.

Now that’s impressive! It certainly looks like there’s still a few bugs, and room for framerate improvement, but this is proof enough for me. I can’t wait for the release!

there not going to implement that. trust me. strmnnrmn said he wouldnt so im guessing neither will this team. if they do lots of people will be disappointed because they gotta go buy the slim and they cant because the psp 3000 is the only one u can buy.

This is looking even better than beta 1. Although the only thing I care about right now in the emulator is fixing up the sound.
It angers me, the way it skips. But it’s still a very good job by the team.

Well, to be honest. I have been -trying- to play the N64 Roms on the PSP now for quite some time, with a lot of Daedalus releases. And all I’m really concerned about is how the sound is going to pan out with this one. As far as I and well.. We all can see, it isn’t lagging so much, which is bloody fantastic and which we’d all like to see. But we’d also like to see whether the sound will work with the games, or if the sound will skip or lag the Roms. If any body from Daedalus team can tell us whether it will or won’t be laggy with sound, I and probably many other people will be happy! Thanks, Extreme.

Comment by Salvy
2009-01-22 02:23:18

Well the sound was moved to the ME in beta 2 there is a new opcion called asyn audio(ME) and syn(old method)

Using async the sound doesnt slow down the emu anymore there isnt a big difference habing sound enabled or disabled now

Also Chilly Willy Increased buffers in the ME on Slim PSP

There still some issues regarding sound but is improving :)

Well, im a little impressed,

Cuz i’m sure there is a very strict list of particular games that work with “Few bugs”…..the rest probably play horribly.

I’m still gonna put myself in the non-believe column.

BTW, What PSP is this on ? I’m gonna doubt the 1000’s

I’m tired of this Win VS Mac. Why can’t we all just use Linux and be happy?

Comment by Upaut
2009-01-23 11:18:44

Because people forget that there’s an alternative to standard OS’s.

If that’s not bad enough, there aren’t many instructors out there that even teach Linux anymore. Sure, you could pick up books, but those are usually for the more common flavors, like Red Hat or Fedora Core, with outdated software.

I had an instructor for Linux, but all he ended up doing was giving us answers to the test after 3 weeks of hour long videos that were more talk than actual instruction. Gotta’ love certification classes these days…-.-

Comment by Acid_1
2009-01-23 15:02:51

Haha. Ya, I had to teach myself. After several years I finally am able to use Linux better than I could Windows when I switched. But I still dual boot both :P

I had ocarina working somewhat on beta 1, but sadly i had to make a savestate with a different emulator (PC) to get past buying the shield.. After i bought it the game pretty much froze on me in Daedalus. I hope LoZ: MM works better too ^_^

lol yah I had the same problem. But it’s okay seeing as how the only console (non-handheld) I own is the N64… It’s just that having N64 games portable would be the shiznit. Not to mention this project is just plain intriguing & impressive.

Yo baby I was one of the believers from day one and even though it took like 2 yrs or so I still glad to see teh team continuing their work (initially started by Strnmmrnnmm of course (sorry still cant pronounce your name heh)) Hopefully we will all be able to run a few games at full speed (at least the more popular ones like Super Mario 64 or Zelda) BTW: how is Wave Race shaping up? Anybody tested this? It was THE game on N64 that made me say w00t look at the water and so on

the non-belevers didnt say emulation was imposable. they said they will never get full speed. from this beta it looks like they improved some games but zelda is still slow. looks like mario is nearly full speed.

to the non believers its just not true if you code it correct you can run n64 stuff very low end systems. i used to play mario64 on a 333mhz pc with 64mb of ram using corn. but it did only emulate mario and yes it was still full speed. a psp has smiler specks at least the slim does.it whont be easy but it can be done.

I told you guys that the PSP is a lot more powerful than the N64. PSP cpu is 333mhz and the N64 is even is than 100mhz!

This was always possible. In time, everything will be resolved.

In reguards to what qwerty said, that doesnt matter because the amount of cpu power it takes to run something natively Vs. the amount of power it takes to emulate something is much different. so in this case that means nothing.

the bit rating died off after n64. it was not a 64 bit system it was 32 bit like all prossers of that time. it was named n64 just to go with the bit 16 bit and 32 bit names consoles got. the only 64 bit consoles out now are the ps3 and xbox 360 being they both use 64 bit prossers. hell the ps2 was called 128 bit witch just hasn’t been made yet.

Ive bein thinking about this sum wat, if u put the psp cpu down to wat the n64 is when u play it shuld work better as the roms are written for tht kind of power so making it simaler to the n64 theoretically it shuld work. And i aint goin bother till they get Goldeneye and starfox workin properley :P

Super Smash Bros doesn’t run too bad on the beta 1. I was playing it last night and at some points it was slightly slow but when you have frameskip 2 on it’s decent. Also I love when you don’t have the framerate cap it speeds right through the points and stuff given after winning a round. It was syncing at like 250%+

Comment by Xarek
2009-01-26 17:13:48

The PSP is NOT an N64. Emulation means that it has to mimic all the hardware that the N64 has in order to play its games.

So… it would take MUCH more processing power to simulate the N64’s performance.

Its more than just clock speed.
