Custom Firmware 5.02 GEN-A Released

I hope you all had a bangin’ New Years Eve… And now, while we nurse our hangovers, we’re going to kick off 2009 with Miriam’s latest — custom firmware 5.02 GEN-A. Please see the included documentation for requirements, installation, and other important notes.
Custom Firmware 5.02 GEN-A features:
- All functions of the official 5.02 firmware.
- Suspend, Reset and Pandora options added in the recovery.
- Hide MAC Address can be enabled via configuration in recovery.
- VSH Recovery can now be opened with an option in the vshmenu.
- You can quickly exit the recovery by pressing the Select button.
- Game Categories Plugin by Bubbletune integrated (enabled by default, can be disabled in recovery).
- Option to reboot in to official firmware in the recovery, it will remain like this until the next cold reset. (Slim Only, support for the Phat PSP might be added later).
- Slim Colors Patch by Bubbletune integrated; enable in the recovery and flash 13-27.bmp to your flash0. This will allow you to use the Slim Colors on your Phat PSP.
- Higher homebrew compatibility compared to other 5.02 custom firmwares.
- Functional 5.02 pops (keep pops compatibility in mind).

So is this like dark alex’s? and can i install it from 5.00 m33-4 and can i go back to m33 from this without a pandora battery? (FIRST)
yes this is like Dark_alex’s.it just has more features and YES u can change back but without pandora bttery and MMS just go to “system update” on the psp using WIFI or add it to the Memory stick by computer

I installed it, nothing is really diffrent for what i need, and so i did and update and it found one, so i downloaded it and it was the m33-4 firmware, i wanted to install it so i did, and say the following message:
A later version of the system software is already installed,
There is no need to update.
(CAAFFFFFCF7)
I NEED DA to creat a 5.03 or higher than this 5.02 so that it will update back to m33. im stuck on gen but it will so for now :( I DONT RECOMEND IT!!!
Use Pandora and DC to switch over back to m33. With Pandora and DC, it does not matter what firmware version you have as it does not read from flash0.

LoL To Make A Pandora Use Hellcat’s Pandora Installer for 3.xx R4B, to downgrade your psp use Hellcat’s Recovery Flasher!!!

This crap bricked my PSP.The program said there was a problem with my keys or something and gave a way to fix it then it just stopped and my PSP was bricked.
ive never used used GEN fw, and since dax isnt goin to make a nu one for now i might give this one a try
The updater wont let me install because it says I am already at the latest level.

I followed the steps on this website and then tried to readme that came with it.
the files are in game/update
psp/game/update
502.PBP and EBOOT.PBP are in the update dir
any idea why the updater says files corrupted?
to clarify…when I go to the mem stick under games and select the upgrade it says files corrupted…when I use the updater it says I am at the latest level.
Wouldn’t use this if you paid me… Look at it a little more closely. It is a bad clone of DAX’s work…
@Alex – Yes. I just went from 5.00 M33-4 to 5.02 OE-A. It works fine and you can always go back. Hellcat’s Recovery Flasher works fine as well.
dude first of all we know ur not Demonchild and second this not 5.02 OE-A this post is on 5.02 GEN-A and third u can switch back to Dark_Alex’s 5.00m33-4 without pandora battery and MMS or without Hellcat’s Recovery Flasher. Just put 5.00m33-4 update in the memory-stick or using WIFI using “system update” on the psp WHEN u are on 5.02 GEN-A

Demonchild is correct, Hellcat’s Recovery Flasher will allow you to go back to your previous CFW, if for whatever reason GEN isn’t your cup of tea.

Everything that was with 5.00 M33-4 is in this. Whatever bugs were in 5.00 M33-4 is in this one. You should just stop with the comments. Whether or not you think its stupid or not, it may be useful for somebody else. If you don’t like it, stay away from it.
i have to wholesomely agree.
however a few of the bugs in 5.00m33-4 have seem to have disapperaed, but maybe thats partly due to sony aswell, so thanks to both the overlords that are Sony and also MIRIAM for this
works perfectly fine for me so far, has loadsa little neat options which 5.00m33-4 didnt have and fixed my problem with the psn store keepin on freezing. Now, all we need are some themes to go with it….
yeah the psn store problem, its was fixed in 5.00m33-3. i assume you were on 5.00m33 to 5.00m33-2
naa on my system even on 5.00m33-4 i had a problem where every time i clicked on ‘download’ the system would freeze up and i would have to turn it off and on again but now it works fine under GEN-A
@Amrish – 5.00 Themes works fine. (Nids didn’t change at all) CXMB has to be fixed though.
i love this CFW its the shit but i like Dark_alex’s but that’s like basic CFW because u have to add everything but this has even more features and i loved 3.95 gen for my second first CFW for my psps’ and now i get to do everything that m33 can do plus more

Yes. Back when Dax stopped OE firmware and M33 came out, so did GEN, and everyone hated it. Personally, I haven’t tried it, but I’d say give it a shot.

At 5.02GEN-A VSHmenu,there is a bug on “Format flash1 and rset settings” menu. I can not operate PSP any more after doing it.
On the bottom of the LCD display,there is a
“>Formatting flash1…”
and it happens nothing and I can not turn the power off…I think it’s a bug on VSHmenu.
Well I tried it I like it alot but CXMB doesn’t work. No you don’t need a pandora battery to do it. It gives you the option to make your battery into a pandora battery and the ability to change a pandora into a regular battery. I would recommend it definetly. Yes it seems safe I had no problems at all…so far.
i’m on the fence here…can someone tell me if the plugins like CXMB and hold 3.41 would work on this firmware..
if it does then i would definitely update to this…sound like it has a lot of cool features…

Sorry folks, i’m not bashing on you all but I do find it rather amusing. Seems like the only updates people trust on here are DAXs, which is really kind of sad and retarded. Yes DAX is still very important in our lovely PSP scene, but I feel bad for the rest of the people who in my opinion do much better work sometimes, work twice as hard and get left in the shadows. Everyone working to build this community and help it continue on should be just as praised as DAX, no more no less. With that said, this update is very much excellent proof of this scene’s constantly evolving commitment! Miriam! Thank you for your hard work!!!! Just wanted to say that the 30 gig zunes are fine. Its not a bad year to be an owner, it was just a shitty 24 hours not knowing what was going on with them. Pretty fucked up if you ask me.
As for the firmware, the only way I’m going to try it out is if CXMB works and I can use my 360 themes and it seems I can’t. Can’t even use it with the latest m33 unless someone converted the theme over.
so i know it probably says in the description but can somebody point out what is SO good and different about this GEN firmware?? i might upgrade to it……..

read the “README” in the download it says that it has to be 3.52m33 or higher so ur good to update and see what u have been missing on the updates
I like how they say “other 5.02 custom firmwares”. LOL
Most games (if not all) still work on 3.90 so in my opinion there’s no need to update.

Note:
Since they have incorporated The plug-in Bubbletune to classify games according to category.(Which is sweet ass plug-in) Maybe Ufox or Red Squirrel will update “The PSP Content Manager 1.8″ to accommodate this. So that the the folders do not show up as corrupt, leaving you no way to organize your games, besides moving them into the root of the game or ISO folder one category at a time to achieve this. Would love that.

Tested with PSPTube 1.6 and Yu-Gi-Oh! Tag Force 3.
Pandora thing works like a charm.
The 5.02 GEN-A has some advantages dealing with recovery menu over 5.00m33-4.
BUT… Dark Alex is GOD of CFW and m33 is as STABLE as is it’s going to get. ;) )
Read up about it in forums and see what feedback is in advantages over m33.

TA-085v2, v3, and all TA-088 motherboards cannot convert batteries to Pandora.

@michael – You cannot run homebrew on official firmware. You need a Pandora Battery in order to hack your PSP. (That’s if it can be hacked)
@asskickulater – Yes homebrew is working fine. CXMB can be found on the homepage, and irShell requires some hex editing to make it work.
All 5.00 themes work since nids did not change at all between 5.00 and 5.02.

well, you need to rip your battery a apart and rip a pin ouy of it, there are tons of tuts for it, and weather or not it’s hackable depends on your mother board, what color is your PSP?

This cfw is great, i have only one problem, popsloader dont work and my psx games dont start. could any one help.
Make sure you are using the popsloader.prx for 5.00 M33.

meh, there some unstable elements about this cfw, i tried it actually, sometimes after doing something the vshmenu wont show up until a certain period of seconds and also it crashes sometimes when accessing stuff.
around 30% of the times.
oh and btw, i downgraded back to 5.00m33-4 using Recovery Flasher

You have to ask yourself why didn’t team M33 release a 5.01 or 5.02 M33 custom firmware. Hmmm… Maybe because there’s no to slim difference between 5.02 and 5.00 ?
actually sony fixed a mem stick bug in 5.01 and then added greater software stability (particulary in the psn store) in 5.02
You’ve got to ask yourself:
Why didn’t M33 do a 3.72 M33, 3.73 M33, 3.93 M33, 3.95 M33? These firmwares are nothing much. Miriam is just doing everyone a favor for those who like to keep updated but want the joys of custom firmware.

just extract this on PSP/Games
just like the way you do in placing the UPDATE folder when you’re updating your PSP… this program was created by hellcat… thank him =)
once inside this program just go to battery options… then convert battery to pandora…
then remove your batt.. then put it back… now you can see that your batt is pandorized or a pandora….
if you want to turn it back to normal… just remove the batt.. plug in PSP charger… then turn it on… then use again the program this time choose the option “turn battery to normal… then remove your batt… and put it in again… everything will be normal again…. =)

its not working now :( my north american game plays but my playstation store demo i got off the store isnt working. or that final fantasy card game homebrew game says game canot be started (80010067) on the demo from the japanese store and the card game please help :/ i didnt do that fatms 371 thing cus i didnt know how is it 2 late to do it now sense i have the most updated firmwear?
