Sony plans to refresh the PlayStation Portable product line with a PSP-4000 model in late 2009 and launch a true successor - a PSP2, if you like - later.
Publishing sources, speaking to Eurogamer, were unable to provide any further detail on next year’s update, which will presumably follow this year’s PSP-3000 in taking an iterative approach. The PSP-3000 launched this October and followed a 2000-series model, the first Slim & Lite, in September 2007.
Even fewer details were available on the PSP successor, but we’re told that developers are already working on games.
Sony has not ruled out either scenario, despite SCEE president David Reeves’ assertion in MCV last week that “there are currently no plans for a PSP2″. “I go to Tokyo quite a lot and no one has referred to it - I think they have their hands full at the moment,” he said, non-committally.
Sony UK told Eurogamer today that it would not comment on rumour and speculation.

A PSP is supposed to play PS1 games. It does need dual nub + l2/r2. It also needs an accelerometer and a touch screen. And if they have some extra time. It should come with hookers.

Not only should it be hackable. But the games should be for free. Heck the unit should be a rental. Charge a $10/month fee and allow the games to be played for free. Give game publishers a cut of the rental fee based on the percentages that their games are played compared to other games. I call it socialized capitalism … where one backs the winner. The US is currently dabbling in socialized capitalism where they back the looser. Mortgages … Cars … Credit cards … LOL

they said a wile back the psp has a 10 year life cycle. if there is going to be a psp2 its not gonna be till at least late 10 probably 2011. then the psp will still have a couple years of support. so no worries hear. and who knows what Nintendo will come up with.

L2 R2 buttons- for better playability of games. just like PS1 PS3 and PS3games, better controls gives us better playability, means greater gaming experience!! right?!
of course Faster CPU, improved and GPU and Larger RAM and a Built in Memory- must be big difference compared to psp1. must be able to play PS2 games and can handle bigger MS capcity and games.
must also have built in memory to store so themes and other files needed to enhance the PSP (like plugins, themes, etc) will still run without MS.
Internet Browser IMPROVED- so we can surf the internet better. we can watch youtube, youporn, redtube, swf games, etc. just like a PC.
Controllers like Guitar, Mouse, Keyboard and etc Support- so we can play our favorite bgames in the PSP2 like Guitar Hero! Red alert! surf the internet and play Dance2 remix! (its kinda hard to play in such a small screen though… hehe! i just want to lpay it thats all. remoteJoy can help and AV cable!
TV, Radio tuner- sounds useless, but it would make PSP2 an All-in-One gadget!!!
Lithium-Titanate Batery- PSP takes 3hr+ to fully charge, but with the use of this kind of battery, 10minutes is morethan enough!

and last! but not the least!!!- WE ALL WISH THAT ITS HACKABLE… RIGHT? SCEI not included.

im pretty sure the psp2 will be another meada loaded system its a trend with gaming these days. hopefully they redesign it thow. hopefully a fold up system so its not so dammed prone to screen scratching. umd is dead they will probably just use mini dvds. or some mini blue way but then it would be ungodly expensive. but we are talking late 2011 maybe so maybe not.

hmm, I would have to say a folding screen is an absolute must!!! and a faster screen ( to get rid of ghosting ) and more ram…plus music ingame(without homebrew) simple screen shot stuff, and a way to record whats on your PSP screen, and I suppose the dual sticks and R2/L2 wouldn’t be bad..oh yeah, and FULL custumization!! like what we can do with CTF themes and flash0 themes. internal memory, but still keep memorystick pro duo support, and some freaking anti-aliasing!!! thats the biggest downfall in every freaking game!!! and I would have to add the Lithium-Titanate Batery, and make it about triple the the juice as the batterys now, and a version of hold+ on the PSP (thats the most useful thing for the PSP ever)and the ability to clock the PSP as we wish (just block out the dangerous levels.

I own a PHAT, yeah i know it sucks but it serves my need in the CFW. The only thing i would ask is for “internal” memory 16gb would be nice, but if they wana add more that would be nice. Better bottons, (i don’t care for L2/R2), mic, upgraded speakers, better batery.

Folding screen would be nice but Nintendo already has that somekind of a trademark for their game consoles like Advanced SP and DS series… so a folding psp could recieve a negative response from people…

Maybe I should have been more clear back there…. 720P meaning 1280×720 PROGRESSIVE… ACTUAL resolution.. not what we currently have with 5.0 which is 480×272 ACTUAL resolution, even though the unit can display, though only in that resolution (470×272) content that is 720p….

yea sony never listions to us do they oh wait they do look at all the stuff that was added to the psp. those that keep crying abought the 2nd stick need to jump off a cliff they cant make a major hardware change like that. that would have to be on the psp2. adding a bit more ram and trying to make the screen better is abought all they can do to current psps.
asking for a bigger wifi card sounds good but using other wifi modes = using more power and we all knoe how poor the psp aruldy runs with wifi on. a bigger battery = more wight but it is a good trade off for the extra power. you dont need sony to expand your psp battery plenty of people make em the charge grip being the best.
a 2nd anlong stick is not going to ever happen on the current psp so stop asking. ask for it on psp2. a wifi card supporting all modes would eat power like crazy on any modes other then b. and wifi on a psp when on aruldy cuts the battery life in half using b. imagine other modes.
as for a bigger battery those can be found. but bigger battery = more wight. so its a tradeoff.
