Blabberbot V2 Released: PSP Text to Speech *Updated*
greg | November 23, 2008
Update: Blabberbot’s initial release may have been a bit premature; in light of that, Art has shared Blabberbot V2 –
- Attempted to fix crash on exit problem with late firmware PSP units, although untested because this isn’t a problem with the test unit.
- Backslash character is filtered from speech, but not from text.
- Pause button implemented.
- New Multi threaded operation makes buttons responsive at all times.
- Program no longer splits words if the screen character buffer fills.
- Program no longer splits single groups with periods such as email addresses.
- Implemented Intrafont for text display.
What appears to be the first usable homebrew demonstration in Art’s PSP text to speech effort is Blabberbot V1. Allow me to quote the Art man –
The Flite speech engine has a built in “file to speech” function, but I have taken an approach of breaking a file down into segments separated by return characters so that these segments can be printed to the screen, and so the user can also seek forward and back through the file while the speaking is in progress.
With that said; hold the left or right button on the d-pad to step backwards or forward, respectively.
And remember the previously covered Garmin GPS Text to Speech Project, well; Blabberbot definitely paves the road for that.

woo first comment
so does this read .txt files?
yes
would be great on a hacked psp 3000. with the built in mic
Text 2 Speech isn’t Speech 2 Text ;)
Indeed.
But it would be awesome if it was Speech2Text too.
Though that would be hella difficult to program…
lol yea i was thinking that too, if that was created i hope it would work with psp slim skype head phones
hmmmm………intresting
not to mention that takes up a lot more resources :(. Not sure if the PSP’s processor would be up to that.
Awesome. Too bad I can read, or this might come in handy.
Im speechless….this has potential to be great if it was integrated into the cxmb it would be very cool…rather individual call outs for each icon…
hmmm good work

whoa nice app!
I couldnt get it to work. I would select the txt file and the txt would show, but then the psp world freeze and shut down.
Seems like a decent app though.
try changing kernel from or to 1.50 if you can
YES
Now my psp can sing me to sleep in a wonderful electronic monotone.
lol
now thats some great way to fight insomnia.
works good and so so but it is beta right? needs a smoother voice or a female voice. If you would be so kind but all in all sweet work.
yeah all it does is freeze my slim and shut down. does it work for anybody else?
i got a phat, slim and brite (parents bought them all for me) all been hacked (becides the brite, so FAR) and on the fat and slim psp its worked fine for me and no lagg or anything. but i have noticed that it works better with a 1 or 2gb memory stick than a 8gb memory stick
i have a 2 gig. idk why it wont work tho. its wierd
so does this work for games?
lets say medal of honor 2, will it say the words people write in multiplayer?
